Official SLU vs. SMS Game Thread
kmbilliken replied to TheA_Bomb's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
Since DP won't get more than 4, we've got to have BH get 6 to 8 points a game and PE and DB combine for another 6 to 8. If we don't get that scoring 60 is going to be tough. We're not going to hold decent teams to 50. With bench production like we had last night we won't win many games. They've got to step it up. This is DB's opportunity to make his career something other than potential that never came through. Hopefully RM can show him the light. -
3rd hand info, but I heard Stemler and his mother thought he was NBA material. If that's the case, I'm sure he didn't figure to ride the pines no matter who they brought in.
-
How can you not get in shape when you're practicing 6 days a week? If he was loafing in practice certainly BS would have been all over him. Maybe he didn't work at it over the summer, but he would have been in shape by January after practicing for 2 1/2 months. BH was in good enough shape to play at least 10 to 15 minutes a game. BS just didn't play him for whatever reason.

That's what I said. A few powerhouses get them, but other than that it rarely occurs. You said North wouldn't get out of the districts in Illinois, Ohio etc. They would. If they played on the east side they would make it to state where they would be capable of winning it all. The competition would be stiffer, but they would still have a good shot at it.

Why shouldn't he post here? He's entitled to his opinion just like everyone else. He certainly has more inside info than anyone else on here. If I were him, I'd have a tough time reading this board. The fact that he does and is willing to post his own comments is good. More power to him.

Trouble Brewing or Done Been Brewed?
kmbilliken replied to moytoy12's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
This just has to play out. TL no doubt feels he's being under utilized. Once he settles into the system he'll have a couple of breakout games and all will be well. -
How times have changed. Now we're a destination of choice instead of a backup plan.
-
That's exactly what we've been lacking the last couple of years and can make up for a good chunk of Ian's offense and rebounding. Now if Bryce can continue playing like a 7 footer the rest is covered.

I believe the issue with Harrelson is will WIU give him a release from hid LOI. If they do he is eligible to plat D1 after one year. If they don't ne is eligble after 2 years. That's quite a hammer. My understanding was WIU is mad about the way he handled this. Apparently he wouldn't discuss it with them so they're holding this over his head and not giving him his release. Just another example of how the schools have the upper hand in dealing with these kids. This is all from my recollection of prior posts on this board. No first hand knowledge.

19-11 regular season 2-1 conference tourney win NIT I think they'll start off a little slow with a couple bumps along the way and pick it up the 2nd half. I doubt they make the NCAA. I think they'll only win one game this weekend.

SLU staff member sits down with STL Hoops Insider

Very well done. Keep them coming. -
For DM to have a Justin Love experience he would have to be a star this year. Justin Love was California JUCO player of the year his second year out of high school. I don't see Macquire doing any beyond being a marginal player at this level. If he wants to play college ball he'd be better off transferring to McKendree where he could have a nice career.
-
No room for him. RM is building a program. DB has had 3 years to show his stuff and hasn't been able to claim a starting position despite being one of the top 2 or 3 athletes on the team. It's play and contribute this year or call it a career. Either way he got his four year scholarship and that's all he's going to get.
-
Sounds like RM will have a talk with DM telling him he doesn't have the tools to compete at this level. We can't sign 7 unless someone and leaves and everything points to DM as being the person designated to leave. RM doesn't sound like he allows scholarships to be wasted on players with no chance to contribute. Thankfully the days of banking scholarships are gone.

WH predicts SLU to finish 8th in A-10

That guy knows his stuff. Great assessment of this team. -
[ BH hasn't lifted before? I recall reports after his first or second year that he was working with Hammerbodies over the summer and bulking up. Did he blow that off the last couple of years? I quess it doesn't really matter now. We can still be respectable if BE is a good rebounder and tough defender, AK contributes and either AM and MR can help out underneath. That's a lot of ifs and probably too much to expect from three not so heralded newcomers and a guy who hardly got off the bench last year.

Kelvin "Mr. Ethics Chairman" Sampson at it again
kmbilliken replied to davidlee's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
Was he prohibited from calling recruits or prohibited from engaging in 3 way calls or both. If he was only prohibited from calling recruits then he dreamed the 3 way scenario up as a means tp talk to the recruits without technically violating the no call sanction. If he was prohibited from participating in 3 way calls with recruits or having any telphone contact with recruits then he obviously blatantly violated the sanctions. No way this was accidental as he claims. If it were it would have only happened once, not 10 times. He just showed the NCAA he has no respect for their rules or sanctions. I think they've got to come down on him big time to as a deterrent to others who get sanctioned. Indiana may need to cut their losses and can him now. Even that may not stave off the coming storm. -
So Kyle Jobe, I take it you've accomplished a lot in your 21 years. Brad worked hard and tried to build an NCAA caliber team. He just didn't accomplish it for many reasons. Damn few of us face the competition in our careers that a D1 coach does. Brad was a nice guy who gave an honest effort, but now he's history. No need to keep bashing him.
-
He was a top 50 recruit. Grawer promised him he would be the point guard to prepare him for his NBA career. Super athlete. He could have done the same for us as he did for Mizzuo and what a help he would have been underneath. We could have had a 6'4 center and a 6'2 power forward that could have held their own against anybody. What fun it would have been.

Andy Strickland and Open practices

Maybe he just doesn't like the guy or has heard he's a hack. RM has been at this a long time and the media as a whole seems to like him. Having been on the media side of it himself, I'm sure he knows what he needs to do and what he doesn't have to do. It's ok to have a few enemies. Sometimes all that means is you're doing your job. -
Danny can beat his man regularly, but when he gets to the hole he seldom finishes. I recall a couple of flashy plays where he put it in and looked like a real player, but those were far outnumbered by the times he'd try the flash, beat his man and miss. If RM is the consumate teacher Danny could be a good student because he has the tools.

[ He was unbelievably candid with his opinions. Didn't pull any punches. Very refreshing, humerous and not politically correct. As candid as Whitey after a few hours of drinking. This is going to be a fun year.

Has Bryce raised his release point? He always looked like he could hit his shot, but I always thought his release point was too low to get it off unless he was wide open.
