Coach Schertz System or how I learned to stop worrying and love the long bomb.

This video is a good breakdown of why the system is superior based on Points Points per Possession Triple P not to be confused with Double P.  ISU was #13 on KenPom Adj Off. #1?  That would be National Champion UCONN. #2? That's Final 4 Alabama.  So that's a good metric to measure good teams.  Think of it like this if you take 3, 3 point shots and hit 1 you're at 1ppp.

ISU PPP was ranked #7 at 1.159 according to https://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-basketball/stat/offensive-efficiency

    Here's the video:

Watching Indiana State highlights and breakdowns of their play while high is a wild ride.

I’ll state for the record this guy is gonna be really good. Wouldn’t be shocked if he starts. I think too much is being read into him not playing much for Creighton, who were stacked.

Swope, Dotzler, Gibby, Avila, (yet to commit) big.  That’s starting five I think.  Hughes, Thames first off the bench. Casey first to spell the bigs

This is a vibe. Maybe I have too much admiration for Creighton, but I think this kid is likely going to start for us pretty quickly.

No one on this forum knows the real numbers but our NIL pot has taken a hit with Jimerson, Avila and Swope signings.  How many big ticket players can we afford?  With the names of two potential recruits floating around this board, it appears we are working on the edges of the pot.

Players not high in their previous school's rotations, or not in the rotation at all, won't command six figure NIL packages.

However much money the programs highest givers want to funnel to key players. The only pot is the BVF but the impact players are going to be guys funded directly by names like Chaifetz, Novelly, Bommarito etc.

Haha exactly, though that would be pretty funny. “Hey Connor, look at all our cool $hit, too bad you’ll never get to enjoy it! Catch ya later”

I do think there could have likely been a conversation around playing time/role that resulted in coach telling him he’s essentially Robbie’s backup and him deciding he’s looking for more.

Why would we invite Turnbull to come to campus, give him a tour, and then tell him we are not interested?  That makes no sense.  I know everyone wants to think we can do no wrong right now, but I have to think he turned us down.

You ever ask a girl out on a date and then realized that it wasn't going to work out during the date?

Yeah, I am really excited about adding Avila, but it does seem like adding him and Swope from their starting 5 was the minimum expectation. A lot of the connected folks on here were implying we’d be getting all of them. Ultimately I am pumped with the hire and Avila, so who cares, but what you point out is true. Now let’s see how Schertz builds out the rest of the roster.

We're dealing with 18-21 year olds making decisions in the presence of yearly dollar signs that I don't know if I'll end up reach in my life. Things change on a dime.

2012-14 we were competitive with the Creightons, Butlers, Xaviers of the world. Can’t be overstated how detrimental it was to miss the Big East bus at that time.

I still think there's another bus coming. All the big conferences are getting bigger and bigger. Big East is going to want to try to keep up. They'll look at programs that are doing well and making big commitments to basketball. Or so I'm predicting.

Agreed.  I also don’t think having a very very localized/specialized recruiter is as valuable in this era of CBB, but that’s just me.

I don’t think his local connections are AS valuable as they were 8 years ago. Again if it’s the difference between keeping a shooter like Gibson for a year. Good, okay. But it’s not anything to get excited about, even just based on it’s a retention not an acquisition.

Yet, boosters keep paying it and increasing the level needed to compete. It is wild to me how quickly NIL spun out of control and how it is yet to truly slow down. I completely agree with you (and I think it will basically need to include formalized contracts for a level of transparency and protection), but am starting to wonder when that will actually happen! None of it makes any sense. Is your d!ck that small and ego so big that you need to pay a star basketball player a million dollars to play for your school? I am glad we have some folks willing to pay, but if there is a bigger waste of money, I am not sure what it would be.

It's going to be VERY interesting to see guys taking paycuts leaving college.

I've been pushing some form of this system for a while in conversations. Multi-year NIL deals with the schools, reinstate the two-time transfer rule (assuming it can pass legal muster), and tie a buy out to the NIL deals like they do for coaches. That way there's still a financial benefit to the school that develops a kid. Although, I think a system similar to the MLB/Japan posting system would be better. The "new" school would be required to pay a fee to the "old" school equal to a set percentage of the NIL deal that is signed at the new school. That way you're not requiring kids to buy out their own NIL deals with funds they may not have in order to transfer.

At this point, the whole model collapses. Title IX has to come into play?

Yeah but they're improving. Baby steps, improvement doesn't go from ineffective to completely functional organization quickly.  Perhaps if they get enough donations they can hire a full time person but employees are expensive. What's the cheapest full time person they could hire?  $50k/year? Maybe. How good is someone making that much money?

Did you get BVF email? That's an invitation. If not the X post is an invitation to Donors/ticket Holders. So as I read it you can go just send RSVP email with headcount.

I wouldn't be disheartened, send your email and go.

Are they improving? I see the same stuff from last year. The same cartoonish logo, the same uninspired half assed attempts at "fund raising". The lack of responsiveness, the lack of visibility. The only thing that's new is the website.
