Liddell wouldn't be a first rounder and might not be picked at all if he came out this year. He would be smart to wait another year. I don't think there is much threat of him leaving for the NBA but after his junior if he continues to progress he could very well be a first rounder.

What is the explanation for Playing Coffey??????
thetorch posted a topic in Billikens.com Main Board
Did Brad explain this move at all? I don't even know who Coffey is. Is he the goofy looking gangly white kid? What did he do to merit this playing time? Or what have the other guys done to not merit the playing time. I mean to me if Lisch goes down you move Dustin into his spot and let him work, or you at least play AK. But a walkon who has played all of 2 minutes of college ball? How does this help? Moves like this are beyond comprehension. -
Ian is worn down from being manhandled by opponents. He gets twice the bruises because he is our only option inside. He needs help. The depth problem with this team rears its head the most with Ian performance. Give him a decent backup or a guy who could post up and bang underneath along side him and I think he has much better numbers. I don't expect much from Ian when I see the beatings he has taken this season.

She'll have to wear a mask and get used to shooting with that on but she's a lisch, anything short of limb amputation and she will be out there.

I think Luke has been given a lot of credit. He has turned himself into a helluva ballplayer. I think posters are unhappy with the fact that we a play 6'5 wing player at the 4 more than they are critical of Luke's play. Really you can't criticize his play at all. He maxes out his effort and talent every night. He is just overmatched a lot of the time because he is out of position. He has a few deficiencies, the wacky way he shoots from the hip, the fact that he can't hit shots from 3 at the top of the key only from the corners. Still I think most, myself included, expected him to be an 8th or 9th man on a NCAA team and clearly he has become a better ballplayer than that. Next year is he the starting 4? Probably, we would have to get a really good player to remove him from his spot. Another thing as well, I think Luke has been helped by the lack of a 4 man, on the perimeter he is a step slow and his shot would be guarded alot more by perimeter players. As effective as he is at the 4, he wouldn't be as much if we had him playing the three.

Obi's gone. He would have been a contributor minus 25-30 lbs.

Desmet has no real talent outside of Brandenberg and Bruin. Chaminade is deep with decent talent, a couple mid level stars in Nelson, Lockhart, and Starks and a team full of shooters. They are one of the best teams in the area, an underrated club, only losses have come against #1 McCluer North and Berkely, really the two consensus top teams on this side of the river.

>Since I don't get to see many games, I'm interested in the >stats. I found it interesting that DB led the team in >scoring in the 2 exhibition games with 18 pts., and has been >averaging almost 20 mins/game and only averaging 5 ppg when >it counts. I wonder why? Brown can score in up and down fast break games where we score close to triple digits. Otherwise during regular season play when we are in the halfcourt most of time on offense he is a fish out of water. He is also mired in a very long shooting slump.

NCAA March Madness 2007 comes out Tuesday!
thetorch replied to VTIME's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
Why don't they have this game on the PC? All the other EA games come on PC but never college bball. -
Walker 6'1 pg played at Nebraska for one year. Indian hills is the top JC in the nation and undefeated on the season. Walker is averaging about 14 ppg, 5 assists, 2 steals, and shooting 40% from 3.

SIU-E has a strong program, one of the tops in d-2. There are 335 programs in D-1 don't see why they can't be one of them as well. I wonder which conference they would join? Possibly Ohio Valley? Mid Con?

I don't know about this. I've listened to Ramsey on the radio for years and he claims that he can barely operate a computer. -
You think they would accept a job and then tell everybody the pay is crappy? I'm looking into the cell phone matter and have been stonewalled. If I can make it to the meeting on Thursday I will ask someone that question.

Just wait until march when Tommy Timmy begs off the A-10 tourney so he can work on his area girls jr high soccer preview.

I doubt if these punks have the sac to hit me. They'd be better off just taking it like a man.

I support everyones first amendment rights to self expression within the confines of a privately owned building being rented by a private university. But others also have a right to self expression. I will express myself by snatching the fire brad signs out of people's hands and tearing them up.

Look for a bigger/better Fire Brad sign Wednesday

If I see someone with a fire brad sign on Wed night I will take it from them and tear it up. -
You think a coach making high six figures is gonna call out his bosses? C'mon this is just coach speak. Don't be idiots.

So you are saying you have really no knowledge whatsoever. Thanks for the facts.

Blaming our deficiences on the administration is not a

Hey everybody Father Biondi is now posting at the board. Or is this Biondi's lookalike bodyguard? Citing examples of Husak, Brown, Drejaj is ridiculous. Those were last minute recruits. Very litte time was spent on them. All three showed interest, got eligible and were given a scholarship in the span of a couple weeks. Signing guys like that does not make for a successful program. Normal recruiting that involves several different types of daily correspondence, multiple home, game, and campus visits is the type of recruiting that builds good programs. This is the type that unfortunately SLU does not have the budget to compete with area schools and in conference schools. 2nd point can be answered with one word Father Biondi - UPCHURCH. Program is still reeling from that debacle. Your regard for the program 20 years ago was deplorable and still is. 3rd point is ridiculous. You expect the coach to call out his bosses and demand more money in a public setting? I want some of what your smoking Father. TV contract, as a member institution you can demand things of the league. And uh you joined the crappy league in the first place. You met the brass at the A-10 and failed to recognizze them as incompetents. That is your fault Father. C'mon Father you micro manage everything at SLU. You count every penny spent. The buck stops only with you. If you show up at the meeting Father I'll be there. And why do you bring up cell phone bills? Are you not paying for the coaching staff cell phone bills? If you aren't no wonder we lose. I've e-mailed and written letters to your office on several occasions. As a matter of fact my first letter I wrote you was when I was 8 and the topic was Upchurch. I'm still waiting for you to write me back. -
Funny but have you met Drejaj? Tons of heart but far from a Rhodes Scholar. He couldn't manage a D-1 program.

SLU is a top 100 program and nothing more. Occasional postseason berths are all that Billiken fans are going to get. Brad is just the latest victim of the SLU administrations refusal to build an elite program. Really with a recruiting budget in the bottom 1/3 Soderberg had very little chance of making this program a success. The next coach will have the same problems. I believe Brad could have been a success, he did well with some inferior teams but the well has gone dry. He made a few mistakes and he didn't have the money and time to correct them. Until Biondi wants to pony up the money the cycle will continue. Don't tell me about the arena. It looks nice for the University, and it is a huge ego trip for Biondi. Without a competitive budget for the athletic department SLU could play in the Taj Mahal and still not win.

Lisch will tell anyone who listens that he is not hurt. The kid has never shot like this. He is hurting. If we had a deeper team I bet he wouldn't be playing.

We lost to UMSL in the early 80s.

An interesting matter of perspective!
thetorch replied to Billikan's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
I am 27 probably on the younger side of the demographic. But I was at games at 3 months of age and I knew all the players names before I was 5. I can say that I have been a fan of the team for over 20 years. My father has been a fan from as far as he can remember as well. He is pushing 60 and was at the games as a youngster when SLU was a basketball powerhouse. I certainly didn't have to sit through the Coleman and Ekker years and I sympathize with those who had to. But I have been a SLU supporter for over 20 years and have yet to see a sweet sixteen team, have yet to see a program consistently rated in the top 25. This is what i want and what we all should want. After 20 years It is getting really tiresome to see the program run into the same walls time after time. We have been on the outside looking in for my whole life. I may be 27 but who knows I could get run over crossing the street tomorrow. I would like to see the Billikens as a conference champion, perrennial tournament team, and while I am making wishes, a national power who contends for final four berths before I die. We have the capability to do all of that. It takes a committment from the university to get it done. We are nowhere near that goal and the farther we fall from that goal the more negative I get. Until SLU makes an about face and decides to create a program worthy of its diehard fans, specifically the ones who post here, I will continue to be critical of the program and will never accept mediocrity.
