When baseball free agency was coming into existence, Oakland A's owner Charlie Finley proposed that all contracts just last for one year. I surmise that he surmised that the above arrangement would be beneficial to the teams. We're kind of seeing whether that is true. I don't know yet.

The betting parlor wouldn't have taken the bet had they known Jontay Porter was behind it. That's my point. The betting parlor would know that just about anyone can start a brawl, with little chance the fraudster would be detected and little consequences for that fraudster as well, so I am skeptical that a betting market exists for brawls. For Porter, the consequences were great, so there was supposed to be a deterrent, but there wasn't.

I'm just a fan, but I understand fraud and the possibility of it to occur. Which is everywhere and at all times. Show where I find the brawl market and I'll believe in it. Until then, color me skeptical. And, if you think you can outsmart the stock market, God Bless You, and your millions, billions, trillions of dollars that you must have amassed. Not sure if you're serious, but I doubt you could find that bet. People would be tempted to make a bet on something that they have control over. Like make a bet on a brawl, then start, or stage, a brawl yourself. Make a bet on me scoring less than ten points, then 'pull a hamstring' three minutes into the game.
