slu72 fan
Large SLU group in Orlando watched. Follow the brain and root for VCU. Follow your heart and root for SFA. Heart won!
hsmith19
I doubt Shaka told the kid to foul the guy shooting a trey with a four point lead and 10 seconds on the game clock...
Billikenboy
Tough loss....seniors must be real hurt getting bounced in their opener for the tourney. Glad that did not happen to us last night...but soon enough we might just be the ones holding our heads. Rise of the Billikens continues! aibhilin
Maybe call a time out before Burgess's FT's to tell em to just get out of the way and let SFA have a layup??? Chernobyl...Go get em Bills. We're done. Best to you all. KAT

Defend Shaka if you want. Obviously it wasn't coached to foul the guy, but still a major mental mistake. And on the other side of the coin.... tell your team NOT to foul? Call time out ahead of time and prep them, scream it from the damn sidelines.. Why the hell would you even guard them tight? Coach didn't get the memo to the team. Coach didn't get the memo to the team. Plus 1...I'm still in shock. We lost to FRich last year the same way last year. How can they not know to just take 5 seconds off the clock and let the other guys have a layup or a 3? Freshman mistake. He shouldn't have been on the floor. TO would have done the job. Shaka didn't get it done tonight. Most nights yes, but tonight, no.' If you guys take out Lville I'll be very happy, even though it'll screw up most of my brackets. Go A10! sludevil
Well, K looks like an idiot. Shaka looks like an idiot. Perhaps next year they'll spend less time pontificating to the media, more time coaching basketball.

Taj79
I watched. It was semi-brutal at times ... for both teams. Lewis deserved to be in there, he had maybe a career night with 12 going. Plus with Johnson hurt, Brandenburg out on fouls, and Brooks just a "fire up the three" offensive guy, no other option was left other than Guest and Alie-Cox (which might have worked if you told them to stand at the arc and give SFA layups). Lewis is NOT a freshman ---- he's a redshirt freshman so don't try freshman mistake here either. It was a dumb play and he should have just run underneath and past the shooter. But it didn't lose the game ---- it only meant overtime. And as the overtime went, SFA just kept building confidence. Look --- VCU is a decent team, and I really love their athleticism. But Weber is a zero on offense, Reddic is limited to paint work, and their overall basketball skill quotient is low (just as all of college basketball seems to be). They lost very few home games because of Siegel but i don't think anyone would argue that they are a different teamonthe road when they don't have the Siegel emotion to feed off. Sadly, this was the only 5/12 game I missed and it set up as a classic ---- VCU had to cover the entire country to play in San Diego while SFA came from vTexas. I should have seen it coming. It makes sense. The A10 took a massive second round beating and only four points separate us from 2 and 4 to 0 and 6.

VCU also made the mistake of making 2 fouls in OT and gave SFA 4 pts without having to work for it - in OT you do not foul - make the team actually score from the floor if they can then so be it but fouling is just dumb. By the way had VCU hit FTs at the end of the game they would have won.
MB73
Shaka not-so-Smart blew it. Overrated. He mostly touts himself. It is all about Shaka. I guess that Navy Seal training doesn't matter when you are stupid. No major credible program will ever bring a self indulged PR hound clown like him to lead. Overrated. JC would have coached that team to an easy victory against, who? Stephen F. Austin? Laughed my ass off.

Tell me the program you would rather have had at SLU the last 25 years, if you could miraculously transfer it to us, to SLU. Name it. Based upon winning %, conference championships, conference tournament championships, NCAA Sweet 16-Elite 8- Final Four and NCAA championships won, academic emphasis, lack of scandals, coaching leadership / sportsmanship / class, number of players that went to the NBA, players that went into NCAA coaching, Name the program. Name it, moytoyboy. Try to not just give a smart ass answer, fight your nature. It will be difficult, I know. NAME THE BETTER PROGRAM and tell me why. Duke has had the more successful program compared to SLU by light years and one of the most successful in college bball the last 25 years. Geez, that's not brain surgery. It doesn't take away from the fact that Coach K can act like a self-indulged d-bag too. It's funny, you rarely directly answer any questions posed to you, yet you demand answers to yours. Well, there you go big boy. I answered your question. Now, go back to spouting the same crap over and over and over and over again.

People just resent Duke's success, I have observed this phenomenon for quite some time. Like The Dallas Cowboys many years ago (America's Team) and ND Football (also many years ago), people get resentful. Jealous. Petty. And K has earned it, 25+ years of impeccable success, plus our USA & Olympic team coach multiple times, plenty of class. Smart is a newbie, got to the Final Four, so did George Mason, (where is that coach?) and some other cinderellas. Smart has a long way to go before you compare the two, Shaka coaches a mid major and overplays his presence, sickening. At least earn it. Not a bad answer, But going back 25 years (actually, 34), the nod still goes to Duke. Sure, K is 67 y/o, you'd want Donovan "today" or last 10 or so. You think Smart also coaches "thug" ball, right? Stay classy. Suddenly you like the VCU coach. Why? I am not the only poster who has observed Shaka's style of banging teams unnecessarily when the referees allow it... makes their Havoc press look better (his legacy), he runs up the score, Shaka gets more PR, he looks like a genius. Again, for example last year opening round, an already thin MAC team was missing 2 guards and Shaka kept pressing with a 40 point lead all the way through the final whistle, pounded the other teams kids physically, Shaka on the sidelines gloating and jumping and hollering, it was a disgrace. And I have never observed K as a pompous ass; it is your perception coming from your mental perspective.
