Players will have to be held accountable for mistakes they make on the floor. But the staff has to evaluate the job they are doing. Even the most seasoned basketball minds can't really figure out what they are trying to accomplish. Establish your system and attempt to impose your system using your strengths on the other team; Make needed adjustments during the game, but don't go completely in a different direction then what the players are used to. You can say players are not trusting the system, but a player can't trust an entirely new gameplan that is designed in the middle of a game. Heck it has nothing to do with trust at that point, it has more to do with players don't know how to run this complete in game revamping of the scheme. Staff makes wholesale changes to the schemes from game to game, which means continuity is not being established. This may be effective with a seasoned team that players all have established roles but you can't do this with a young team that roles are changing every couple minutes. Players soon stop trusting the staff; Players want to be able to lay it all out there for themselves and their coaches but instability with roles, playing time and coaches second guessing their own schemes after a minute or two creates a lack of trust from players standpoint.

Holy cow, amen

Agree with all of this. Maybe another reason that some coaches clean house after a disastrous season is to squash dissent. You're never going to impose a new system without everybody onboard. Crews has taken the keys back from the freshmen and given them to the older players. Hopefully the offseason will be enough time to heal the egos bruised in the process.

If Crews recognizes his tactical missteps in recruiting and corrects them, we'll be fine. If not, he'll be gone.

We are an awful basketball team that does nothing well. It is going to take more than a few tweaks to become respectable.

Quoted for truth.

Does anyone think that Mason, Fordham, or the Dukes are just a few tweaks and a couple of players that are not top 100 recruits away from being respectable? Because they are all better basketball teams than us right now.

It makes it hit home just how far away from being good again, and how fortunate we were over the past three years to be in the conversation.

My gut tells me that this team WILL be good IF there is not a mass defection. There is talent. There is athleticism. There is no meaningful leadership and there is a lack of humility by some of the players. Those two latter factors can be addressed by a little maturity.

This team needs maturity, experience, a better attitude, a point guard, better big men, better coaching, and more overall talent.

Unfortunately what we need comes with price. It cannot be gotten under these conditions. Something has to give...
