SLU vs Fairleigh Dickinson (NCAA Rnd 2)

Fairleigh Dickinson beat St. John's at St. John's in the NCAA 1st rnd and will play at SLU Sunday. They had a slow start to their season, got hot in Northeast Conference play before losing to Quinnipiac in their last regular season game. They apparently have a very good goalie. They are also 6-0 against Catholic schools and 5-5-5 against non-Catholics.

Xavier beat Kentucky 1-0 and Charlotte beat UAB 3-2 so the A-10 will have 4 teams in the final 32.

Top Drawer Soccer analyst, J.R. Eskilson, picked SLU to win the East Regional (the other analysts picked #1 ND and UNC).

2pm. Hey should we be tapping our collective resources to get some sort of tailgating going on top of Olive and Compton garage? I'm reaching out to the SLU goalie coach to see if he knows who I would contact to try it. I've got a couple other people to check with as well but anyone else have direct access to the powers who could make it happen?

Also we can't underestimate any team that comes into Hermann for an NCAA game. Lets not forget Northwestern (Roth's 35 yard knuckler) and UIC on penalty kicks I believe.

I will never forget the loss to UIC on penalties. It was 20 degrees (or felt like it). The UIC goalie was the first player on their side to take the kick. Tim Ream with the weakest effort I have ever seen.

2009?

That would have been my guess because it is hard to believe that it was so long ago, but it was actually 2007 according to the Almanac: http://slubillikens.com/fls/27200/MSOC/HistoryRecords.pdf?DB_OEM_ID=27200

2009 was the year that Missouri State had to play in St. Louis even though they probably had a better argument to host. I heard the suggestion that SLU was awarded the game because we had a higher average attendance. Is attendance ever a factor?

I do not know all the factors and is definitely weird. Better seed is the biggest factor, but attendance and previous games (playing away previous helps) are also factors. Usually the better seed gets the home game all other stuff being equal.

I think sometimes the better seed may not have the field available or the school willing to host. Tulsa is the 11th seed but they are playing AT South Florida (who, despite being unseeded and with an RPI of 35 will have two home games to start the tourney). Tulsa is the only seed not playing at home this Sunday. I am guessing Tulsa's field is being used for Track & Field (do not want to play with javelins and discs flying) but I really do not know why they do not play at home.

I think that would have been a Jay Demeritt UIC team

Who knows but I would guess that it might.

So what say everyone about a tailgate? We've got a NCAA game at home and a fun SLU team to watch.

I can't believe I'm going to have to miss this game. Please give a good detailed report. Does anyone know if this will be on TV or on the internet?

According to SLUBillikens.com "Live statistics and a free video stream of the game can be found of the NCAA's interactive bracket, located http://www.ncaa.com/interactive-bracket/soccer-men/d1?DB_OEM_ID=27200." Odd but I will take it.

It looks like Jay Demeritt was not on that team, but the winning strike from UIC was by Matt Spiess from Chaminade: http://www.uicflames.com/sports/m-soccer/recaps/112307aaa.html

Also, the goalkeeper was heavily lauded for that particular season: http://www.uicflames.com/sports/m-soccer/spec-rel/122907aab.html

Jay was playing pro ball overseas in 2009

Tuned in at 25 mins. SLU seem to be doing a good job of possession and producing corners. FD backs seem quick and able to neutralize our offensive schemes. FD with better opportunities and have had 1 or 2 good shots on goal. Let's hope for some halftime adjustments to get some shots on goal.
