Anyone Planning a Trip to Atlantic City?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anybody on the board was making the trek to Atlantic City. I'm trying to figure out the best way to make it up there and a good place to stay. Any ideas?

I would say plane to philly and train to AC is the best way. I dont have school on Friday so maybe Ill head up ;)

Fill up the Lebaron and put a keg in the back. Rican is driving.

I have a huge problem:

I live in NYC, so the tourney is a simple two hour drive from here. No problem.

The problem is, I live with my pregnant sister, her husband, and their baby.

And her due date is March 14th!

So I can't go to Atlantic City cause they expect me to take care of their first baby and drive them to the hospital, plus, who knows when she'll actually start going into labor!

How inconvenient! Doesn't she realize how important Billiken basketball is? Can't she pick another week to have a baby?!

Good grief.

I have never heard of a better reason to induce in my life. A few days won't matter to the kid--get it out early.

That's funny, my daughter was born on March 14, and I remember there being potential A-10 tourney conflicts. Sadly, the Bills lost to Dayton in OT in the first round the day before - I was looking forward to introducing her to Billiken basketball at the earliest possible time.

I can't stop thinking about that horrible movie "Lethal Weapon 4" when Chris Rock, Glover, Gibson and Uncle Benny are all gassed up at the dentist and Butters (Chris Rock's character) keeps saying "Your baby is having my baby" in that crazy Chris Rock voice. Right around the 4 minute mark...

I was just in Atlantic City for business. Flew into Philly (Southwest is the only direct flight from St. Louis) and then hired a car for the hour long drive to Atlantic City. Stayed at the Borgata www.theborgata.com , which is supposed to be the nicest hotel in Atlantic City. It is off the main strip but not that far from where the games will be played. Interesting people watching to say the least....

Take the baby with you to AC.

I am in --- we have reservations for two nights at the Tropicana. It ain't cheap --- hotel rates in the AC are high on Friday, higher even still for Saturday. We have a standard room that they will allow four people in and with two, we're looking at $430. There are cheaper alternatives in West Atlantic City and Abescon. I've stayed at a Red Roof Inn in West Atlantic City and the GeeDub team was there with me in Ian's senior year. Of course, you have to drive in and find parking but that's not too hard with all the casinos charging about $5 per day/event. . I'd avoid parking underneath Boardwalk Hall however --- they tend to lock up the gates an hour after the event concludes and your car is stuck if you want to party somewhere within walking distance.

Closest to Boardwalk Hall are the casinos ---- Trump and the Trop. The Trop is nice for me because it has an entertainment mall connected to it called The Quarter and its casino and includes Hooters, Starbucks, a bunch of bars, and other shopping venues. The entertainment pier -- bars, restaurants, etc. -- is across the boards from the Hall and the Trump. The Hilton is further south Kwijybo stayed there some time back. Mayber he has a recommendation on it. Steve the Sign Kid stayed at a Travelodge or something on Atlantic Avenue across brom the beach.

For those unfamiliar with East Coast boardwalks, it is extremely cold and windy at night, even in the summer. You don't want to be out there too long this time of year. I would not go further north than Bally's or Caeser's and no further south then the Trop. But that's me.

Nothing flies into AC International. Most likely you'd have to come through Philly and NYC so why bother. There is a direct train from Philly that is an express. You'd have to pay a $7 fee to take SEPTA train to Philly's 30th Street Station and then connect to an express train to AC. Cost one way there is $8.00 and ther AC station is a short walk or cab ride to the hotels. Driving distance from SLU to AC is a short 948 miles!!!!

I may have stayed at the Travel Lodge, but that year was my favorite conference tournament ever.

I should be at the games. Haven't figured out hotel yet. Will probably see if we get a day or night game before that decision. I really don't like that they moved the tournament to Friday - Sunday....The attraction of AC was low cost hotels Wed - Thursday.

I am surprised no one mentioned the A-10 conference room rates (I have not stayed there but the rates are OK--I thought Roy arranged this deal!):

I am thinking about going this year but right now it does not look good. I have stayed at the Trop and the Hilton. I actually like the Hilton's room much better but the Trop is way more convenient for the games and the drinking as well as the pier that Taj mentioned. There is a good chance I stay outside of AC this year if I go.

I do recommend the train but as Taj said it is a problem from the airport if you are not traveling light.

I can actually fly to AC from Boston and Spirit Air usually have decent rates if you are willing to flap your arms real hard on take-off! The problem is that you have to stay several nights to get a good rate. It is interesting that so many are coming--great!

Do you know how to get the A-10 rate? I don't seem to know how through the web site, may have to call.

bump for Red bird fan

I am staying at the Trop with my parents. I bet my aunt and uncle are too. Old man Taj is also staying there. I really like the hotel, but there are plenty on the boardwalk.

If you are there I'd appreciated a meet-n-greet! I'll be there with the SLUMS grad who is a Dayton season ticket holder but who now says, based on last night's thrashing, that his packed wardrobe for AC is lighter minus the need for red gear.
