  1. Don’t care about how hard it COULD be to recruit.  If we can’t fire him because we can’t eat whatever is left on his contract (or any other reason), don’t extend him just to avoid a lame duck situation.  Win more games, get more money and years.. simple.

look at Houston, Memphis (once with callipari and now with Penny) Texas tech when they had Beard, us when we had majerus, Loyola with Moser.  You can go from obscurity to a contender!  But you have to hire the right guy!!  It can be done!

I’m just hoping coach Jeff Fisher can land some gems in the transfer portal this summer.  Preferably players that don’t need good coaching.

Ford and fisher parallels are down right uncanny!!!

With the way things have gone the past several seasons, this has become the most exciting part of the year: "free agency" frenzy where transfer names gets tossed around like a drunk on boat and we all overvalue our incoming freshman recruits.

Yea. Kinda like being a rams fan all those years with the draft…

I don’t necessarily believe it is fully Yuri’s fault he isn’t as impactful as his assist totals would indicate. There are certainly things I wish he would have done to round out his game, notably shoot more from deep to keep defenses honest and not drive directly into shot blockers multiple times a game. However I think there’s a pretty significant case that the roster construction around him simply was clunky. Not enough guys who can create for themselves, and a scheme overly reliant on Yuri making opportunities for others. As much as I like Gibson and Javonte, they just aren’t dynamic (this year in the case of Javonte) enough off the dribble, and a lot of their scoring was dependent on Yuri breaking down the defense first. We saw how disastrous that plan is against a team like Fordham, who took him out of the game completely.

Yuri undoubtedly is the best passer we will ever see in a Billiken uniform. He’s also a flawed player who would have been better served with a different supporting cast. I’ll miss him a lot, but also hope our roster next year doesn’t have to rely on one player this much.

Yep… one of the biggest roster/scheme issues in my mind is the consistent high ball screens with a 5 that has stone hands and is zero threat unless he has his back to the hoop and 5feet away.  Worked way better last year with linssen.

A lay up a lay up my kingdom for a lay up.  How many did we miss?  Make 50% and we win. Also our FT shooting at the end did not help either.  I missed why Francis was not there?  I do agree that Ford does not know how to make adjustments and because of that this team will never meet our expectations.  If we lose to Dayton then there is a good chance of this team not winning 20 games the seemingly number that some hang their hat on even though it has been years since that mark meant anything.  One more year is about all I can stomach of Ford unless he has an epiphany this off season.  Ford will be back next year and the grumblings will only get louder.

Apathy has set in for me.  Not only for this year, but next if ford returns.  I will go to the Dayton game and I will root for them to go on some fairytale run in the A10 tourney, but not expecting much.

This is why if I’m Yuri I stay at SLU. He works for a guy that can change his professional life post basketball. His pay next year may not be as much as a power 5 could offer, but it’s one year. Stay at SLU and break the NCAA assist record in front of your family and your boss. Then go play pro ball with a career waiting at Chaifetz Group. Leave for another school and that all goes away.

Maybe it was a multi year deal he negotiated… ;)

We observed what we thought was fatigue in the SLU team in the 2nd Half of last year’s semifinal vs. Davidson, with SLU playing its 3rd game in 3 days and Davidson its second in 2. Getting the Double Bye is helpful IMO, especially if you’re trying to come back from behind in a game, and even though SLU won 4 games in 4 days in ‘19.

That game was over by halftime last year.
