And here comes the expected backlash from the uninformed:

Had a SLU offer:
I wasn't even aware that St. John's or Seton Hall had offered, so maybe he's forcing their hand a bit.
I guess this is a message to his future teammates on whatever team he ends up on that he wants the number 3.

I found it interesting that his father equates stats and personal, and to be fair team, accomplishments with representing the State of Kentucky well. I'm willing to bet there are players who are far below his son's skill level who also represent themselves, their school, and, I guess, the State of Kentucky well. I'm not saying that his son doesn't represent well. I just don't think that the things that his father cited automatically equal representing the State well.

Thank you for this new development. The board had gone stale for about a month. Go land this guy Travis.

You can have success without being a good outside shooting team. The 13-14 team was a poorer shooting team from the 3 than last season's team. I been just as guilty as everyone else when it come to worrying about our 3pt shooting the most. That it is important, but I think just as important (maybe more) is improving our two point shooting. We ranked 299th last season in 2pt%. Losing Hines and his 33.6% 2pt% will help some, but Bess and Goodwin both need to raise their 2pt%.
When I said "shooting" or "outside shooting," I wasn't referring to just shooting from three. I was referring to all shooting other than dunks or layups by our bigs. If shooting doesn't improve, we may not hit the expectations this board has set up for the team. If it does improve, from three and from two, then I think we're competing for the league title and hoping for a second weekend in the tournament.

I think it is interesting that all these folks at the various departments at SLU are fretting about the budget problems when it was the faculty in those same department that ran Biondi out of town because he was trying to do things to fix the pending budget problem. Guess what faculty, you made your bed, now sleep in it. Because of their unwillingness to see what the administration under Biondi saw was coming, we now all have to deal with Pestello. Thanks, guys.

This coming year will come down to shooting. Our defense will be more than solid. Rebounding will be great. Our inside game on both ends will be more than sufficient. If outside shooting is good, then we will have the success that many on the board are predicting. If not.... that's where the high hopes we have may run into a bit of a road block.

Then take the field.
There's no fun in betting the Billikens when my ticket says I'm betting the field.

Relying on input from Taj and Rothstein, but not Katz, here is my (pre any unknown injuries) order of finish in the league:
SLU / SJU / GMU / DAV / UMASS / URI / RICH / VCU / DUQ / DAY / SBU / GW / LAS / FOR.
That's it-that's the way it will be!!! On my way to Las Vegas.
Just got back from Vegas on Monday. You still can't bet the Billikens on futures bets. In the A-10 you only can bet Davidson, St. Joe, and the Bonnies. Everything else is just the field.

Can we just offer 2y/o Benson Conklin right now? Time to start the Class of 2033 recruiting thread.

You beat me to saying the exact same thing. I hope his dad is already teaching him how to set picks.

I'm sure he plans on staying at SLU. The problem becomes what does he do when a Power 5 team comes after him with bigger dollars than we will pay. Hopefully you are right but most coaches go after the brighter lights.
I'm hoping he sees that the best job stability comes from building a powerhouse outside of the P5.

The fact that Ford is saying this gives me hope that he plans on staying at SLU. Why would he care to start talking up the long term possibilities of the A-10 unless: 1) he plans on trying to entrench himself at SLU and making it a Gonzaga, Xavier, and/or Nova type program, and 2) he believes that SLU will be staying the the A-10 for a while even if we have success? The first part would be good news. The second part would be bad news (or just reality, depending on how you look at it), unless he's correct that the A-10 can catch up to the Big East.

I'm rather confident that Ford has a reason and plan behind every offer that he or his staff makes. Sometimes it is because they think we have a legit chance for a kid. Sometimes it may be because they want to show a certain AAU coach that we want to be in on their future players. Sometimes it might just be to put SLU's name on lists next to Illinois, Florida State, Georgetown, and Wake Forest. The more we are out there associated with higher level recruits, the more kids see that we are and change their perception about SLU. I'm willing to bet that kids that are current recruits or that are a year or two away from having to make a decision follow these recruiting websites much more intently than do fans like us.
I completely trust the staff on recruiting decisions. I hope getting in on a high level guy late means that we really have a shot. Even if it doesn't, I'm confident that the offer is serving some purpose for our program.

Yuri better commit soon, or we might be going with other options.

Rothstein might LIKE us, but he doesn't LOVE us. Just saw his early pre-season top 25 plus the next 5 who might break thru and we are not in his list of top 30. Pretty much P6 heaven with the exception of Gonzaga and Nevada .
His top 25 includes ACC-7, SEC-5 (including 3 in the top 6), Big 12-4, PAC 12-3, Big 10-3, Beast-1, OTH-2 (Zags #2 and Nev-#5). The most surprising to me is TN #3, Auburn-#4 and Nebraska- #25.
FL ST is # 14.
I would not have expected anyone to put is in the Top 30 yet. We've got to earn it on the court this season. Doesn't mean Rothstein doesn't love our team.
I think that Rothstein sees what is being built here and wants to be able to claim he was on our bandwagon early. Based upon all the tweets lately from him, he will have every right to claim that. Welcome to Team Blue, Jon.

while i am amazed at ford's recruiting thus far, i will wait for the rest of travis ford's coaching game to match his recruiting as he has always had the M.O. of a great recruiter that couldnt coach the players up from expectations and wasnt a particularly good floor coach. i will say his motivational skills the last couple of seasons were off the chart. i am fully on board the ford train, but am also still waiting to be shown it is now the the full package.
I totally agree, which is why last season helped with my evaluation of Ford's coaching abilities. I'm hoping that he has figured out how to better coach and handle his talent after what he's experienced at other stops. I'm also encouraged by the intensity levels that are shown in videos of practices. I really think that our teams, in the next few years at least, are teams that other programs hate playing, win or lose.

I wish Thon Maker would have connected on one of his flying kicks on one of those little cheap shot artists. Nearly every punch taken by one of the Australia guys was a coward-ass blind punch by the Phillipines or someone on their crew.
-
I'm sure all would agree, but Ford is about at the top of his game as far as recruiting goes. We haven't had a winning season in three years and then last year we were one game over .500. Despite this, he is recruiting guys to SLU like we've been perched at the top of the A-10 the last several years.
On top of this, the guys he's bringing in all have quotes about them like "hard worker," "intense rebounder," "good teammate." I love it.
I know that many of you have beefs with Chris May, but May hired Ford at a time when many of us were looking at other guys. The hire was not an easy one for May to make, and he took some heat. Looking back, this hire may be one of the most important made at SLU. Whatever you think of Chris May, he deserves credit for pulling the trigger on Ford. His next job is going to be to convince Ford that staying here and turning SLU into a Villanova, Xavier, or Gonzaga type program is better than jumping to a Power 5 school and hitting the reset button on the hot seat.

Mizzou put him on the back burner and considered him a fall back option if plan A didn't work out, so it makes sense SLU landed him.
Said every Mizzou fan ever when they lost a recruiting battle. Whoever put a troll vote on this one needs to learn about blue text.

Basketball recruiting is a world away from interviewing for and possibly accepting a job. Kids are recruited for years. They often have multiple options to consider, instead of someone in a position of accepting a job or not. A recruit will narrow his list down to just those offers he is truly interested in. Then they go get to visit the schools that they like. The kids consult with parents, friends, coaches. Then after this lengthy process they have to choose one school that is wanting them to make a commitment to. If the kid gets to the fall signing period and still is unsure of where he wants to commit, he can still put off his important decision until the spring.
I'm not in favor of bashing 18 year old kids. I get it. But when you F-over Coach Ford and our coaching staff just because you think you are better SLU, then I have no problem with you receiving the rath of Old Guy on our fan board. I hope he gets a sick feeling in his stomach watching us in the tournament in March.

S2 and other examples out there show that the system is out of whack right now and not doing a good enough job protecting the accused. I don't care who is fixing it. It just needs to be fixed. Regardless of someone's politics, I think we would agree that this problem was created when one party was in power. They may have been right in their intentions, but were wrong in their complete failure to implement protections for accused parties that our legal system has required since we have been a country. If Devos corrects the problem, then that's a good thing regardless of her politics.
