  1. SLU could have saved a lot of money by just letting us handle this. We're the focus group they needed. LongLiveLisch should get some free merch from SLU for his design work. I don't think the mascot that was rolled out was all that bad, but LLL's touch ups did the trick. Get it done May and Pestello. Everyone will be happy. I think part of the problem is that I keep hearing that students were involved in the design process. I don't know about you, but my college years were not the best decision making years of my life. I'm not sure that any sane person would say that college kids are the best for making decisions. Why is some pimple faced Humanities major allowed to offer opinions that are shaping my mascot! There are people that know how to do this kind of thing (i.e. high paid consultants and LongLiveLisch and us MBMs) that should be making the calls.
  2. Given the results so far, Ford and staff need to be given the benefit of the doubt. Sometimes a staff looks at a kid's tapes and might just think they are overrated or that they wouldn't fit their system. Sometimes a coach might reach out to the kid and the kid says he's not interested. In either case, neither the kid nor the coach would share their reasoning with MBM's like us.
  3. Waited until I read all the comments before putting my two cents in. The face is not that bad. The costume is not that bad. The new logo is in line with modern trends and the mascot needs to match it. That being said, the big, big, big mistake was the two-tones. If you take what is there and just make it all gray or all white, I think it would be much better. You would see that he is smiling rather than it appearing that he wants to bite whomever is nearest. Another mistake was that video they put out. Watch it again. Why did they make it look like a movie trailer that was introducing a villain? The music was ominous and the way the Billiken turned and faced the camera at the end sent chills up my spine. Just show the Billiken bouncing up to some kids for a picture. Show the kids smiling and not freaking out or crying and they would have immediately softened the image. Instead, they made a video that looks like you're getting your first look at Hannibal Lecter's face. The Athletic Department can fix this by losing the two color face. It will show everyone that they care enough about the concerns of the fan base to take action. At the same time, they will still get their newer, more modern logo personified as a mascot.
  4. We'll see. I can supplement my own tickets when I need to as well. Plus, my clients are bankers and doctors. They're usually appreciative of getting tickets and show up.
  5. Just bought two. Going to give them out to clients and write-em off. Seems like a deal like this is perfect for businesses to purchase to give away to folks. Helps the Billikens with funding, inexpensive give away to clients, and helps pack the house.
  6. My group is going to Fordham this year. Long Presidents' Day weekend helped with that decision.
  7. Aquananne must originally be from Texas, because all of his interest schools are down that direction.
  8. I'm going to take the Marshawn Lynch approach to this guy.
  9. I have been twice to UD Arena. If you have seats near the court, you have a decent view. I would say that 8,000 of their 13,409 seats have terrible sightlines. It's almost like they plopped half of a football stadium inside of a building. The seats on either side of the court (not the ends) just keep going up and up and up. I would say that they go about 50% or 60% higher up than the seats at Chaifetz do. Every seat at Chaifetz has a good sightline and is near the court. Only so many seats at UD Arena are so situated.
  10. Not true at all. I went there last year for SLU's game against VCU. It is a very nice arena. I like Chaifetz better, but it's not far off.
  11. How the hell are we in a position that we might be having to turn good players down? This is insane. The turnaround that has occurred on the recruiting side is so dramatic that I am having a hard time believing it's true.
  12. When I was going to SLU, I was a homer. I used to give friends that went to lesser schools (USML, Maryville, etc.) trouble about going to a school that was perceived as weaker academically. A friend of mine that went to Wash U. did the same thing to me. Now that I have been out in the working world for awhile, I realize that it really doesn't make any difference. Maybe it helps with your first job. Maybe it gets you a leg up with an interviewer who happens to have gone to SLU, but my experience has been that once you graduate, the school you went to doesn't matter all that much to people doing the hiring. They're much more concerned with your work experience.
  13. Yeah, Gibson could have played in the NBA. Played both baseball and basketball at Creighton. Brian Jordan from the Cardinals in the 90s played football and baseball at Richmond.
  14. I'm also liking the way that Ford is connecting with the new freshmen students. I think his getting involved with the students the way he has will pay dividends in the student section during the season.
  15. Louisville opening up after Pitino leaves would be a much more imminent threat. Like others have said, if he does so well that he leaves, that means we are in much better shape than when he got here.
  16. Just want to the roster page on the website. Here's the breakdown for anyone who cares: St. Louis Area - 8 Foreign Country - 10 US outside of St. Louis Area - 14 Two or three of the St. Louis area kids also seem like they are new to the area from another country.
  17. I find it funny that a program that wouldn't allow a coach to expense buying the team ice cream a few years back is now being accused of dufflebagging $300,000.00 to a recruit. Hey idiot Illini fans, we don't have that kind of program and that kind of jack.
