More about that will appear in Fridays Media Views column."<br /> <br /> anyone want to take a guess as to who will be talking and with whom 101 will be trying to reach with "mixed martial arts programming?" Is this really that big in the STL area?</p></blockquote> It actually is pretty big. Though I don't know if it is with a crowd that listens to talk radio on Saturday morning. Stully kept a pro wrestling radio show on the air for years. So anything is possible.

I love him doing Billiken games. However, I can't stand him on talk radio. His I'm more objective than everyone else stance on every subject drives me nuts. Especially, when he generally isn't, he just feels that because it's his opinion, it's correct and more objective. I love Chris Duncan, don't mind DeMarco and am indifferent on Randy K.</p></blockquote> The period last year after they moved Rammer out and during Randy's illness really showed how far D'Marco and Duncan have to go. Without a point guard The Fast Lane was absolutely terrible.
  3. I'm pretty confident you are right. In his capacity as the Bills play-by-play voice he should be a University employee, not a station employee. He's broadcasted game on stations he wasn't working at before. It would mean less SLU talk during the day on 101 though. It would be too bad. I really enjoyed his show with Stully despite the crummy time slot. It is hard to compete with Frank C but I'd listen to Rammer over Zach M anyday.
  4. Darren Rovell reporting that the Catholic 7 have an offer from the new Fox Sports 1 network (Speed) for 12 years that would pay the Catholic 7 $5 million a year and any additional teams "less than half that".
  5. KenPom ranks them pretty darn high in defensive efficiency. But in offensive efficiency they are bottom 10 in the nation. Maybe something like 53-35
  6. Crews gave his reasoning for this at the Billiken Club meeting back in early December. Basically the same answer he gave TT. Though he added that part of this thinking on this come from years of watching players (both his and others) putting forth lackluster efforts in going for the rebound in those situations. He said that he hasn't specifically instructed the players not to stand at the line. Just that's he's told them, "if you aren't going to go all out for that rebound I'd rather see you back in your defensive set." I've noticed that JB and JM will stay up sometimes, even when the rest of the team is back. This seems to happen when they are fresh off the bench. Seeing our guys get back and really frustrate teams like Memphis by shutting down fast-breaks and transitions the last few years, I kinda like the strategy. Memphis was so sure they could run us last year and I remember one of their players lamenting, "You'd look up and they'd all be back already. We couldn't get anything started."
  7. I lime these idea though understand what people are saying about the median age of our fanbase and the general slowness to adapt to the times of the program. What I would do is set up a way that season ticket holders (especially the corporate don't-show-up-half-the-time types) could signal to the ticket office that they won't be using their tickets a given night. Give them a rebate, maybe 25%, for doing so. Then turn around and sell those tickets on-demand for say 50-60% of the original value. More money and more butts in the good seats. This would take some real work both business and technology-wise. But we have a sports business program in the business school along with IT and project management classes. These folks need real world experience in their studies. So why not utilize them?
  8. Seats in that section are $25 per game as season tickets. Still maybe a bit high but unlike other sections there is no "gift" required.
  9. They basically split time against EIU. Loe had 19 min, Manning 17. It makes a lot of sense that we will see that continue until Loe gives Crews a reason to do things differently. Has anyone else noticed that this confidence thing isn't new for Loe? I felt last year that you could pretty much tell if Loe was going to have an ok game on whether it not he hit his first 3.
  10. SLU fans are getting evidence that we are not Duke. People on this board are overreacting and panicking. Roy is pontificating and people are yelling at him. Seems like the world is still spinning as usual to me.
  11. I don't know if it will happen in the next couple of weeks. But I won't be surprised if we hear at some point that Crews wants to retire at the end of this year regardless.
  12. KC was very clear on the fact that he was coming here to play for RM. Bills fans have every reason to worry about his future with us.
  13. Rammer theorized on the post game show that they may be reconsidering red-shirting him and using the injury as an excuse.
  14. Because until something else is official, we are in the A10. And chants about wanting to be in another league won't go over well with the league office. Just like if you asked Chris May on the record today he'd say we were totally happy with the A10. We all know it is silly but it is the game May has to play. Look at how happy the Big 12 was with Mizzou after how they acted when they thought a Big 10 invite was coming.
  15. Why on Earth would Evansville do that? Makes no sense at all.
  16. I think those who expect these decisions to be made around having the cleanest schedule, don't really understand these schools' priorities.
  17. SLU has been top 10 in attendance 3 times in the last 40+ years. Being there consistently was never going to happen.
  18. I compared us to the Catholic 7. Where we rank vs Syracuse and Pitt is irrelevant. They are gone.
  19. Richmond too. The have some real good things going for them but i don't see how they would be considered with VCU in play.
  20. Actually no. -SLU's average attendance at Chaifetz is actually on par with Providence, DePaul, and often St John's already. And higher than Seton Hall. That's without special-event highly attends games. -While GT and St. John's play in 20,000 seat pro arenas, they are often less than half-full. A rarely reported fact. -By not paying thousands in rent per game, SLU's revenues are actually higher at Chaifetz. -SLU still has Scottrade Center available should they need it for a highly attended game. And they have made it clear they will use it under those circumstances.
  21. I'LL and Northwestern wouldn't do it because they are in the same conference and do not want to play against each other in a non-con tourney. Are teams allowed to play in multiple regular season tournaments per year? I thought they weren't. If not I doubt Mizzou or Illinois would take part in a tournament with only regional interest when they can go after invites to Maui, Coaches vs Cancer, Battle for Atlantis etc. The same thing would probably keep Marquette out of a tournament centered around Majerus connected schools. Now that doesnt preclude single game special events, just tournaments.
  22. Had some praise for Butler and VCU though. He may see raiding the A10 as their best option.
  23. I've been watching St. Joe's vs Villanova and they just discussed this whole mess at halftime. Dino Gaudio in the ESPN studio pointed out two things per his "sources": -The Catholic Seven may not be as united as they would imply. Georgetown is the big dog and will do what is best for them, even if that means accepting an invite to a major conference without the others. -If they do jump to the A10, it will not be to form a 21 team conference. "These schools will not accept going from playing in the Carrier Dome to playing in the Rose Hill gym or Lasalle's 3rd floor gym." Maybe a 16 team A10 made up of the Catholic 7 and with the A10's weakest 5 members discarded. This is going to be a tough tightrope act for the A10's commish. I know we can't just dump current league members nonchalantly. But when the alternative may be the Catholic 7 picking off the league's best programs because a full merger isn't seen as suitable......some extreme measures may need to be taken. I think the folks at Fordham, Lasalle, and St Bonnie have a lot to be worried about.
  24. I would assume that all current A10 members would WANT to stay. But you have to think Fordham, Lasalle, and St. Bonnie would be asked to justify their inclusion before long. URI might not feel like a good fit either. SLU and Dusquene would probably be safe due to the TV markets we bring.
