  1. Wouldn't be surprised if we go with a smaller rotation. Don't expect anything from Drew, not a knock on the kid just no room for a 1st yr player to get much playing time with 2 seniors in front of him. For the same reason, unless they feel Crawford can contribute at another position I expect him to redshirt. I wonder about the 3rd guard spot having no idea about AM. Can he play pg? If his game isn't were we'd like it to be (think JB's first year here) does that open up room for JB I get minutes at guard or for a recruit?
  2. I think the point is certainly made. But I wonder how many of those kids wouldn't be a fit for SLU academically. I see at least one RM pointed out wouldn't have made it.
  3. Maybe JC can get us a home-and-home with UCLA now.
  4. GT's streak is at 4 (with no Sweet 16s in that time) Creighton's is at 2 Despite what their fans would tell you Creighton has only been a consistently srong program since about '99.
  5. Crazy. It is almost like Saint Louis University is a university of higher learning that has a basketball team, not a basketball program that also teaches kids stuff on the side. What a concept.
  6. I don't believe AM is a point guard. So holding off means we go into the 2014-2015 season with only freshman at that position. That would have "down year" written all over it.
  7. Looks like there will be only one Hurley jumping around like an idiot on Rhody's sideline next fall. Bobby took the HC job at Buffalo.
  8. Heck we could pull a Calipari and hire him as a "consultant" just to consult on getting his kid here. Kidding of course they made a rule against that finally last I heard.
  9. Keep in mind te author I this article is a Mizzou fan who at the start of the season made it clear he knew next to nothing about the program he was covering. Seems like a Kevin Slaten training to me.
  10. I wasn't sad I was angry. Losing a well played game would have been one thing. But no, this season ended basically like it started. There hasn't been that poorly a played game since Santa Clara. I love this team. But that was more than a loss, it was a choke job.
  11. The other day Andy Katz somewhat surprised me in stating that the new Big East will not be a power conference. That in his eyes there will now be a "Power 5" of conferences and a second tier consisting of the New Big East, Mountain West, A10, and possibly the America 12 (old Big East). Then beneath that tier will be everyone else typicall seen as mid-majors on down. It threw me at first but after thinking about it some, I can't disagree.
  12. To Win: Defend Rebound Needs to be a t-shirt
  13. Happy to see the university using the tourney to reach out to donors and the community. I've personally gotten 2 fundraising calls in the last 3 days. Also my employer is near Chaifetz and we've received an email from Peg Weathers, the university's AVP for community relations inviting us to come watch the game at Chaifetz. Nice way to reach out for some new fans.
  14. http://www.bloomberg.com/video/the-method-behind-march-madness-sportfolio-3-20-vMfM_k07SZal1TXltpdnrQ.html Sportfolio did another segment on SLU tonight which was primarily an interview with Dr C. The other segments were on the "old" Big East and tv rights for college basketball in general. Dr. C -makes the case for why SLU should be in the new Big East (all the same points already discussed here) -talks about missing his friend Rick and wishing he was here to see this -affirms that he would not be content to see us finish in 12th place of a new Big East.
  15. Just his opinion, doesn't really mean a thing.
  16. When was the last time you heard a conference announce an expansion and then actively talk about plans to expand further? Nothing to gain in that. They will keep their cards close to their sweatervests.
  17. This is just like our tournament games last year. Poor shooting (we are away from home) but our defense keep us in it. I wouldn't be surprised if every game is like this from here on out.
  18. Things that will have nothing to do with who gets into the Big East (but that some people think will) -Whether they make or do well in the tournament this year (short term data point when a long term decision is being made) -Whether they made or did will in the tournament last year -Whether or not they won their league this year. -Whether or not they end the season ranked higher than the other candidates -Whether or not they will have a good team next year -Distance to travel (so long as it is not west of the Rockies or in the South (as in Texas). With travel being what it is nowadays everyone will either A) charter or connect through Chicago anyway. -Any sports team other than men's basketball or football (no not women's basketball or soccer or baseball) -Whether or not inclusion allows for or prevents round-robin schedule -Who their coach is, unless A) he's a legend or he is paid so little that the school's committment to basketball can be questioned -Whether or not they play in an on-campus arena or a NBA areana (so long as the facility is a good one either way) -Whether or not they draw more in attendance so long as they are near capacity/above league averages -The academic reputation of the university, so long as it is not truly awful. It is really simple -Are they in a media market that will make them a compelling value for a TV rightsholders to both drive interest in ad sales and drive demand for subscription fees from programming providers? -Do they have football (answer better be no)? -Are they in the type of market that will provide an attractive recruiting base not just for basketball players but for students in general to other schools in the conference? -Do they have a decent facility and do they do a decent job of filling it? -Are they committed to being a top basketball program? -Is there a reasonable expectation that they will not be a RPI killing doormat? By this criteria Butler, X, and SLU should all be certain to get invited at some point. Creighton probably does too. Dayton and Richmond also have strong cases but not quite as obvious.
  19. The Indianapolis Star has a poll online about who should be Mr Basketball for this year. Mike Crawford is one of the four candidates they list. The others are Zak Irvin (Michigan), Demetrius Jackson (ND), and Bryson Scott (Purdue). Mike is currently second to Scott in voting.
  20. Who is on the record? Coaches? Coaches will not be making this decision.
  21. The Big East's deal with Fox can grow from $500 million to $600 million if the league grows to 12 teams, per the New York Times and retweeted by TT. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/12/sports/ncaabasketball/fox-sports-and-new-big-east-are-teaming-up.html?_r=0
  22. There is nothing really wrong with having competitors locate near each other. The problem is when a developer gets millions in tax dollars/tax abatement to build a new big box so an existing store can move a mile or so down the road.
  23. I suppose I'm already dreading when VCU wins how we're going to be hearing Reggie Miller and the other two on national television talking about VCU being the A10 champs. I'm sure they will footnote us but still.
  24. We have the head-to-head win. We have the tiebreaker. No one can argue we are not champions. So no reason not to celebrate. If VCU wins they can call themselves champs. But we can still roll our eyes and say, "Yeah, sure you are."
  25. And just like that, 7-0 Temple, timeout VCU.
