  1. Without sitting out a year. The NCAA has a new rule that says if you graduate with eligibility remaining, you can go to a grad school and play ball there without sitting out. Weird. Maybe this is why ol Brad is saving so many scholarships! http://www.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/story/9459096 I wonder what happens to schools like SIU who make a living on 5 year types.
  2. I would rather get a degree from an ACC school >and ride the pine for 4 years then get a degree from SIU and >play for 4 years. The problem with that is that being in a big conference doesn't make a school good academically. There are just as many good schools in the A10 or MVC as there are in the ACC. If you are talking about a junior Jordan, a degree isn't going to mean much for their post-basketball life. They could get jobs working wherever they want because of MJs connections/power. So degree being equal, where would you rather be? Sitting the bench (and I am talking about 12th-13th man, right above the walk-ons) at a midlevel ACC/Bigeast/Big10 program, or starting/6th man type duties at an MVC or A10 school?
  3. >Do you think he'll go to UNC, or will he want to get out of >dad's shadow? > >If he wants to do something different, I'd say yes- I've >seen him play, and he'd be a great guy to have. He's a very >smart, complete player for his age. And you're right, I'm >sure SLU players would like to be wearing Jordan gear. From what I've heard, he isn't quite on the playing level of UNC and his dad doesn't want to force him in there. I hope he goes somewhere he actually gets to play. Better to play a lot in the MVC/A10 than to sit on the bench for a middle ofthe road Big10/ACC team. If he does well enough at a school like SLU, Bradley, SIU, etc. there would be plenty of NBA teams that give him a looksie. I just can't see them justifying it for a kid who was sitting the pine at NC State or Michigan.
  4. >Yes it does - Vashon is probably 100% African American so it >does not take a genius to make the connection. I agree the >remark was off base and does not represent my >thoughts/feelings. Take it off it offends. As Penn&Teller so eloquently state on their wonderful Showtime series...YOU DONT HAVE THE RIGHT TO NOT BE OFFENDED. Its just a way of life, friend.
  5. >I think Metz shoulded be banned for such a blatent racist >remark. Uhh racist? What was racist about that? A simple joke, often reserved for Bobby Bowden or Pat Riley coached teams, that implies absolutely nothing about skin color. Good work though, moral police. Ever think that you are the racist one for even thinking such a thing?
  6. > >St. Louis is lucky to have such great columnists in Miklasz >and Burwell. Hehehe and jeff gordon is really good too..haaaaaaa
  7. >>i would rather vashon kids pass the act then be off to >>tourneys all over the country. he does the kids no favors >>not stressing that academics are THE MOST important thing. > > >Why does he get all the credit for the guys who dont qualif >and none for those who do? BECAUSE THATS WHAT THEYRE SUPPOSED TO DO! Why should he, as basketball coach, get credit for STUDENTS who play basketball qualifying. Thats the teachers jobs. Problem being, he seems to put a lil too much emphasis on basketball moreso than school for some of those boys. Instead of dragging them up to Peoria to get whooped up on, maybe a local game wehre they could steamroll someone and get some school work in? It isn't hard to qualify academically. What is it? Over a 16 on your act and goes up by GPA? It's not like theyre asking them to cure cancer.
  8. >I cannot imagine under any circumstances Floyd Irons >accepting a job as an assistant coach! I cannot imagine under any circumstances Floyd Irons being offered an assistant job by any respectable head coach.
  9. > local studs Isnt this an oxymoron? St Louis stud basketball players?
  10. >I truly think Ian will be back. But watching Luke Schenser >(sp?) get some significant playing time in the playoffs, has >me second guessing that. Anything is possible...and as a >Billiken fan, i've come to expect the worst. Luke was an undrafted free agent. He signed 2 10 day contracts with the Bulls and then signed for the rest of the year. He only saw 10 minutes of action last night and about 0 the 2 previous games. Point being, Ian is nowhere near as good as Luke. Period. Ian has about as much chance being drafted this year as...me. Next year is a different story. A solid senior year can do a lot more for a guy like Ian than a few workouts. If we were talking about a guy like Tommie, maybe a different situation. It is easier for a lil guy to impress in workouts than it is for a big guy.
  11. http://www.belleville.com/mld/belleville/sports/14481051.htm This article doesn't mention that part about not cutting the mustard in the MVC though, so I don't know how accurate it is.
  12. Luke Meyer's shot >makes the game rated MA for mature audiences, because it >would make little kids have nightmares. I heard that his shot froze the console because it took so long? Maybe that was just on Playstation?
  13. >from MrBattitude on Indiana BB Message Board > >"I watched Lance Stemmler scrimmage today at Assembly Hall. >This kid's a basketball player! He's got a real smooth >stroke from outside, nifty moves inside and he can put it on >the floor and go to the hole. He more than held his own >playing against older, more experienced players." Older players? Color me wrong but wouldn't Stemler be one of the oldest players on the court? Maaaaaaybe more experienced, but I don't really think thats true either. Typical.
  14. >DraftExpress is reporting "European sources" told them that >Vouyoukas has six figure deal on the table from Greek pro >team Panionios (PAE). I am not surprised that Vouyoukas may >have significant offers from Greek pro teams but I do not >think the DraftExpress editor knows enough about the >situation to claim Saint Louis "may have seen the last" of >Ian. > This would be a step back from him. While the greek league may be better competition, there is definitely not as much exposure to NBA GMs, provided the NBA is what he wants to do. The last guy, and the only one I remember, to come from the Greek league was...Jake Tsakadilas...
  15. >All this BS about how we are on the verge of being a >tournament team. Does anyone know anything about bball. >The team is far from a tournament team. Get a clue. Wow. Such a negative, misinformed attitude. The glaring weakness from last years team was a consistent 3 point shooter and a legit 4. We have 3 guys who can play the 4 consistently now. We will have a decent 3 point shooter when Stemler signs. If DM doesn't redshirt, he can also provide a spark there. Doubting he gets much time behind the guards, but ya never know. But then again, I just dont know anything about bball. I should go looking for a clue. moron.
  16. Anyone heard anything about this? Supposedly it has something to do with the police, stolen credit cards, football players, basketball players, and Grimes, Not neccessarily in that order. Hopefully it is true because rooting for Mizzou is like rooting for the house in blackjack.
  17. >Bradley will descend(once again) into the murky depths of >lower division MVC with the departures of Somerville and >O'Bryant. Doubtful. Theyve got a lot of talent returning. The best PG in the MVC. OB may still come back. Les is flying around the continent banging down the doors of recruits. Amazing what winning a few games in a row in March will do for a program. The MVC will still be fairly strong. With Altman and Turgeon locked in, and Les looking like hes locked in, there should be some great teams coming out on a yearly basis. SIU will reload as always. SMS was never that great to begin with. Did anyone else see that Drake signed Dr Tom to a lifetime contract? Thats the equivalent of us hiring Norm Stewart and giving him a lifetime contract after a few years. Very strange.
  18. > >Unfortunately, SLU has more competition and hasn't come >close to matching Tennessee's excellence. The Post-Dispatch >is fine. My opinion has nothing to do with the post's lack of coverage of SLU. However, the Post is quite possibly the worst paper i have ever read. I mean, the Peoria Journal Star kicks its ass. PS Has anyone heard who the commencement speaker is for this year?
  19. >@ www.jucojunction.com > >They say he`ll visit here the 26th and Indiana on the 28th. It says in that, or a related article, that his visit to IU will be a 3 day trip. It says that his trip here will be an after class trip to SLU for a few hours. Eh? Also, Kelvin Sampson might face problems at IU for the crap he got himself caught in at OU. Good work, IU. Hiring those coaches from the weak conference...
  20. >2. Academic requirements at SLU present some recruiting >challenges NO THEY DONT! Why does everyone think this? As much as I'm proud of the SLU education, it's not Harvard. It's not Duke. It's not Stanford. Its just as tough/easy to get a player into Xavier, St Joe's, Bradley, Creighton, Boston College, etc.
  21. >Thijin Moses: The 6-7 senior from Canada is being recruited >by DePaul, Bradley, Cincinnati, Toledo, Fairfield and >Wisconsin-Green Bay. >Xavier Crawford: The 7-foot senior from Durham, N.C., is >committed to Bradley. "He has tremendous upside. His best >basketball is in front of him,'' Jackson said. > >Manuel Cass: The 6-7 senior But >Cass, ..., said he will honor his earlier commitment >to DePaul. > >Mac Koshwal: The 6-9 junior from Canada, who ranks among the >top 25 prospects in the nation, has attracted interest from >Illinois, DePaul, Marquette, Michigan and Miami (Fla.). > >Craig Brackins: The 6-10 junior forward from California, who >has three-point shooting range, is being recruited by >DePaul, Washington, California, Washington State and Iowa >State. > >Michael Glover: The 6-6, 210-pound junior from Bronx, N.Y., >lists DePaul, St. John's, Providence and Rutgers on his >shopping list. > >Marcus Relphorde: The 6-6 reclassified junior from >Homewood-Flossmoor, who attended Millersburg (Ky.) Military >Academy last year, has attracted interest from DePaul, >California, Washington and Big East schools. > There are rumors going around that DePaul might try to hire this guy as an assistant. Notice the common school that is interested in the best players. This place might turn into a feeder system for DePaul. Bradley managed to steal Crawford out of there, and they are apparantly hot on the trail of Moses. But if Moses winds up going to DePaul, that might be the first domino to fall. And hell, why not? I wish we could get that kinda setup. They've got some big boys up there. Helluva team. Call him up, see if we can get him or a close relative on the staff.
  22. >Did anybody hear that Ian entered the draft? He didnt hire an >agent,so he can still come back next year. I had heard this rumor floating around campus before break. You can only enter early for the draft once before your last year. So with a lot of the younger bigs (Noah, OBryant, etc.) maybe not going, Ian wanted to see where he would stand in an incredibly weak draft. No harm no foul. He wouldn't be drafted above 45. No guaranteed money vs. a starting spot and a free degree. I think he'll choose the degree.
  23. >Don't be surprised if Chris Sloan is the next assistant, and >Drejaj the DBO. > How about someone with NBA contacts/experience? A former NBA player? A former NBA assistant? That'd go a long way with recruits. The NBA is a goal of quite a few recruits, and having someone on the staff with those connections would go a long way in helping them.
  24. >no eddie curry or jeff hornacek? darius miles? Eddy is lazy. His team should have run away with the title in 01. However, seeing as how he is useless, he lost to a bunch of 6-2 scrappers. Bulls should have done some scouting. Miles didn't win either. He had a better tournament then Eddy, pro wise. Miles played himself into the top 5 of the draft. You see where both of them wound up. Underachieving. It is funny how much you can learn from watching a guy play in high school. You'd think millions of dollars would motivate them? And metz, everyone knows that the only reason Buckner was any good was because he had The Bonz outside poppin 3's.
  25. >At 6'7" he's taller than Stemler and recruited to play in >the ACC...Have we've signed Stemler, who sounds like a wing? >I'd make a call if allowed to or upon hearing he's >officially reneging. What's the worst he can say...no? Where >have we heard that before? This is kinda a pie in the sky thing, but still raises a good point. Anytime you have a chance with a 4 star recruit, a guy who is top 20 at his position in the nation....you take it. Exactly right, the worst he can say is no. If a guy like Jon Scheyer from Glenbrook,IL said he wanted to play for SLU, would you tell him no because WE HAVE DANNY BROWN! No. No one in their right mind would. Same thing applies here. When you have a chance to get a stud, who cares about the current makeup of the team. You can always fit him in, especially over guys like Brown and Polk.
