Duke's Non- Conference Schedule
DeSmetBilliken replied to tseugnekillib's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
>bring on the mcd's all american like sean dockery, shavlik >randolph and the bianchianni kid. all overated imo. I pretty sure that Lee Melchionni wasn't a McD's All-American. In fact, I think he may have walked on his freshman year and got a scholarship a year later. I don't think he gets much playing time. Dockery and Randolph would probably be major players for most teams in the country, including. I for one would gladly take either one, especially Randolph, on the Billikens. Anyways, even if the above players haven't lived up to the lofty expectations they had, they're still pretty good basketball players. You also have to remember that next year Duke should still have guys like J.J. Redick, Daniel Ewing, Sheldon Williams, and recruit Demarcus Nelson, plus maybe Luol Deng(who you did mention as a great player) and Shawn Livingston depending on what happens with the NBA Draft. I'm as big of a SLU optimist as anyone, and while I look at every game as a potential victory, I think that playing the Dukies at Cameron Indoor would be a very difficult task to say the least. -
Where can I get the SLU t-shirt?
DeSmetBilliken replied to BleedSLUBlue's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
I like the idea of the rally towels, but the fans that never make any noise or show any excitement probably wouldn't like it since it might create too much excitement in the arena, just like people who say that the Band plays too loud or too often. -
Where can I get the SLU t-shirt?
DeSmetBilliken replied to BleedSLUBlue's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
I'm not sure if those shirts are still available or not, since they did sell pretty well when they were sold before the Marquette and Louisville games. I think that either SGA or SAB (not sure which it one) was behind those shirt sales, so they would probably be the best source for information on that. On a side note, those shirts were sold for $5 each, and I ended up with an extra one after the Marquette game. I sold that extra one to my Mom for $5, and she donated the shirt to an auction, where I believe it sold for $10, which surprised me because things normally go for below value at this certain auction. -
Baseball Talk - Preseason Predictions
DeSmetBilliken replied to davidnark's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
>0 World Series Appearances. > >First Manager I think to take the Cardinals to the Playoffs >and NOT make the series. While I'm not trying to defend LaRussa, that statement does need an asterisk next to it since for years there were no playoffs, as baseball didn't use the divisional format. The team that had the best record in each league advanced to the World Series. Basically, of all the managers who have taken the team to postseason play, Whitey Herzog and Tony LaRussa are the only ones who could've made the playoffs yet still failed to make the series. -
Apparently SEMO is looking into getting rid of the Indian mascot they currently have. They are looking into other potential mascots, and you can submit a suggestion to SEMO at their web site below. My personal favorite that a few people have suggested is the "Fighting Okra." http://www2.semo.edu/urelations/mascot/suggestions.asp

"Next time, we'll buy the name beforehand..."
DeSmetBilliken replied to SLUWX's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
The guy who registered the domain name for that either owns or posts at Phog.net, which is probably the biggest KU website on the internet. Before the current layout was used, paigesportsarena.com went straight to Phog.net. It was kind of funny to see the Jayhawk logo. Needless to say, some poor planning on the part of Mizzou, but I got the idea that it will be no problem for Mizzou to acquire the rights to the domain. -
I would doubt that Grimes won the award because of academics considering that Dwayne Polk and Luke Meyer are both honors students, while I've read before that Kalen isn't the most academically focused individual. I prefer water or Powerade anyways.

on nate's recommendation......
DeSmetBilliken replied to billiken_roy's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
I didn't have to deal with the NCAA Clearinghouse when I was taking the ACT a couple years ago, but we were repeatedly told that if we took the test multiple times, most schools would take our highest unit scores from all the tests. For example, I took the ACT twice and got a 26 the first time. My score wasn't higher than 26 the second time, but I did get a 29 in the English section, which brought my overall composite score to a 27. -

>Methinks Polk won the POY when he dropped 38 points in the >championship game. Meyer was the regular season POY, hands >down. That would be my guess too, as many times over the years in all sports the PD has put some extra weight on leading your team to the state title, which is why I thought Polk would be named POY. Congrats to all those honored. I'll have to look through the paper later today when I get the chance. -
I'm all for the Band taking a trip to the Virgin Islands!

AD Woolard must answer questions......
DeSmetBilliken replied to Triangle andToo's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
>Saturday was too soon and yet the winner of Monday's game >plays on Wednesday night? Oh well. According to the NIT web site, the winner of the SLU-ND game will play Thursday March 25 in the quarterfinals, not Wednesday. -
Man, can this team's season get any worse...
DeSmetBilliken replied to SLUBALLS's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
I was actually rather proud of myself, as I was able to read through the entire article before I started laughing hysterically. This would be like Hilton Hotels naming a new branch Paris Suites. -
ND has a couple of good guards in Chris Thomas and Chris Quinn. They bring Colin Falls, a sharpshooter out of Chicago that SLU recruited as well, off the bench. Their big man in the middle, Torin Francis, who is a former McDonald's All-American, is out for the season with a back injury. So both teams are without their main inside threat. Can't say that I know too much else on ND.

SLU/Iowa....release from Iowa site

Game's at 6 pm on Tuesday night at the Family Arena. Winner will play the winner of the Purdue-Notre Dame game. Will Savvis be open for the second round? -
I originally thought you were putting down Weber too, but then I re-read your post and noticed that you were only complimenting Coach Brad, saying that he was a sincere, not full of BS coach.

BillsWin, you were probably pretty close to where I was in line tonight. I got there around 7:45 or 7:50 and to my surprise saw the very long line go from the entrance to the Maryville gym all they way past and around the building next to it. Eventually they let those of us who were still there at halftime go in after they re-assessed the attendance situation, so I got see the second half. I couldn't see all that well because I'm only 5-7 and I had to stand in the end zone area with about 3 or 4 rows of people in front of me, but I was impressed with the little bit I saw from Polk and Meyer. My opinion, along with quite a few others who I talked to while in line, is that playing a state quarterfinal game at Maryville was an extremely DUMB move on the part of MSHSAA. It was so bad that Borgia had organized a bus to take their students to go see the game, and after the kids travelled in the bus from Washington to St. Louis (which they apparently had to pay to ride), they couldn't get in the gym and ended up leaving. Maryville's gym is barely bigger than most high school gyms. Maybe in a few years the SLU arena will be able to host such an event.

Any chance Clarke will be available toonight?

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the gane tonight has no bearing on SLU seed in the tourney-they have already clinched the 7th seed. -
SignGuy is going to Cincy + Hotel Question ...
DeSmetBilliken replied to SluSignGuy's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
Steve, I'm not sure of where exactly the Band will be staying, but I'm pretty sure that we are staying somewhere in Covington, Kentucky. It is right across the Ohio River from Cincinnati. Things might be a little cheaper over there and still very close to U.S. Bank Arena. -
This type of crap really irritates me.

Billiken Law's right. I knew about Minnesota in the late 90's, but hadn't heard nor actually thought about any of the others that he mentioned. -
Yeah, I'll be there as part of the SLU Band contingent.

According to STLToday's Prep Sports section, Meyer scored 28 points in the victory.

I remember watching a game in the College World Series a year or two ago and the announcer mentoned that one of the teams only had one or two players on their team on full scholarship. I'm pretty sure that it was said that this was the norm. If I had to guess, I'd say that it's similar to the scholarship system at SLU for soccer, where only 9.9 scholarships are available to be distributed amongst the entire team. By the way, SLU defeated Creighton 8-2 in the game today.

I was in the front and could not hear the sound from the game.

You were lucky with the service at Wackadoo's. I ordered my food a couple minutes before tip-off and received my food just before halftime. The Band ordered his food during the first half and didn't get his food until well into the second half. I got to be one of the judges for the fight song contest, so that was fun.
