  1. Saw this in the Star... I think the most interesting part is at the end... apparently UMKC is looking to join the MVC. ---- KC wooing Missouri Valley Conference Sports commission is actively going after college events for KC-area venues. By BLAIR KERKHOFF The Kansas City Star Kansas City is going after the Missouri Valley Conference men’s basketball tournament. And the league is listening. “We’ve had discussions with Kansas City and we’re excited about the possibilities,†Missouri Valley Conference commissioner Doug Elgin said. The Valley expects to send requests for proposals to Kansas City, St. Louis and Omaha, Neb., in July. The tournament will be played in St. Louis for the 18th consecutive season in 2008 and the Valley is looking at sites for the following five years. The event has been a turnstile success story in St. Louis, attracting more than 22,000 for a session and 85,000 for the tournament — attendance records — at the Scottrade Center in March. “But we have a responsibility to our 10 schools to see what is out there through the bid process,†Elgin said. “If it’s financially beneficial to relocate we have to look at that.†Elgin didn’t specify Kansas City’s potential offer, but said “Kansas City has always taken an aggressive stance when it comes to big events.†The men’s tournament would be played at the Sprint Center, scheduled to open in October and the site for the Big 12 men’s tournament in 2008, 2010 and 2011. Also on the table: the Valley baseball tournament. League officials were impressed last month when they toured CommunityAmerica Ballpark, home of the T-Bones, in Kansas City, Kan. The tournament, played at campus sites, could move as early as 2009. “This is a top priority for us,†said Kevin Gray, president of the Kansas City Sports Commission. “Anything related to college basketball and college sports are strong strategic aspects of what we’re trying to build in the marketplace.†Ideally, Kansas City would have at least one major conference basketball tournament per year. The Missouri Valley could be in Kansas City in years the Big 12 is elsewhere. “Could it be as successful in Kansas City from an attendance standpoint?†Elgin said. “Yes, because it works well geographically.†Kansas City is a three-hour drive from four Missouri Valley schools — Wichita State, Missouri State, Creighton and Drake. “We’re in a zone in terms of our popularity,†Elgin said. “It may not be an automatic sellout like the Big 12, but we are a very big convention for a city. We’re going to put a lot of heads on beds.†Eventually, Gray said, the city’s relationship with the 10-team Missouri Valley could benefit UMKC’s quest to join the league. “But first thing’s first, and we couldn’t be more excited about having the opportunity to host an outstanding event like this,†he said.
  2. >So I am working on trying to figure out the best way to die >some maroon ones. here ya go... http://www.villagehatshop.com/fez_blue-white.html
  3. in firefox - go to your Tools menu on the taskbar and choose clear private date - check Cookies and then hit clear. Like a charm.
  4. I've heard that Majerus has a couple of kids coming off of missions that are wanting to play for him. Anybody know who these guys are? Let the sun shine on SLU just this once!
  5. "I like the band rather than that fabricated music. " Rick Majerus I'm thinking he will love SLU!
  6. Truth. No matter how successful the next coach is... no matter how "big time" this program may become... I will always question this firing. It's not that I truly believe that Brad could have ever taken us to where we wanted to be - it's that I desperately WANT to believe that Brad could have taken us there. Nobody ever questioned your heart, your character or your desire. You're to be emulated.
  7. > >The fact that SLU has signed on with a search service says >either >1) we have no candidate in hand, or >2) we have a candidate, but will waste money on a useless >exercise. I am going to go with 1b) "we have no candidate in hand - and we don't trust the morons we have in the athletic department to find one" Hmmmph... Haven't been around this board in a while. To answer everybody's question about whether or not SLU is a national laughingstock - nobody in Kansas City even knows who Brad Soderberg is. The main topic on sports radio here today was the declaration of Gil Meche as a Hall of Fame pitcher. Nobody else really cares about Brad. Hire Rick Majerus and people will care. I might even have someone ask me about it at work.
  8. See you Saturday. I'll let you know where I will be in your building if you want to discuss it in person.
  9. The SLU-Texas A&M game was available on SLU's website for $10. Not sure if that was through TA&M or SLU, but it was there.
  10. I found this quote by OJ Mayo quite disturbing... "Coach (Tim) Floyd has been an NBA coach and at the next level, and the city of Los Angeles is a great marketing city," Mayo said. "Hopefully, if everything goes well, I can market myself better for the next level." So it's all about marketing now... great. What are the chances of Southern Cal coming out of this thing with NCAA sanctions?
  11. >Roy, Alumni, Skip, and Rich have been real quiet the past 2 >days. I wonder why, hmmmmmmmm? My assumption is they are quiet because there has not been any news regarding the Billikens basketball program and we are just waiting to give our thoughts on the Quincy game Saturday night. Is that what you were talking about?
  12. Do you think it's possible that Huggy will find more success at KSU than he did at Cincy? He'll certainly have more exposure at KSU. I guess it just comes down to how he handles the talent. Same old story.
  13. That's a heckuva lineup. I've paid $20 a pop to see a lot of these performers and would pay much more to see a couple more of them. Man, the Weirbacks are playing... grr... Never been to Frisco, too bad I can't make it this time.
  14. Didn't Lance have a sit-down with Brad and Ian when he visited? If he did, what did Ian tell him to make him think that Ian had a good chance in the draft this year... and what makes Ian think he has that good chance?
  15. I truly resent that statement, but thanks for comparing my two favorite teams. Reasons "we" are not the KC Royals of basketball: 1. You can't compare pro sports and collegiate sports. The Royals lose players because they can't pay them. SLU loses players because they graduate. 2. SLU's problem does not come from ineptiude in management. From the AD to our head coach, SLU has good people that know where they are going. The Royals have a bunch of charity cases managing the team. 3. SLU's problem does not stem from lack of coaching. Brad coaches his kids better than just about every coach out there. Buddy Bell can't even get a veteran player to take a first pitch with bases loaded and two outs. --- And a reason why the two teams are similiar: 1. KC Royals fans and SLU fans don't give up on their team when something doesn't go their way. We stick with these teams because we love to watch them, follow them, die with every second they are competing. Don't make me believe differently, metz.
