  1. It looks like Ok State has two seniors who would have been recruited by T Ford (Forte and Hammonds). Both have pretty intriguing stats. Anybody hear anything about them?
  2. I believe this is already in the works and will happen this off season. Has anyone else heard this?
  3. Wiz, thank you as always. Looking ahead, is it possible we will be favored next Saturday at home vs. Duquesne? That looks like a chance to get another league win.
  4. Had to read that twice. Did we ever think we would be saying that?
  5. I have friend of mine that lives here in St. Louis that is a professional basketball scout. He scouts college and NBA for a service that NBA teams subscribe to. All of his work is done on tape and the detail and metrics is very impressive. I am sure teams "go see the kids play" but much of the really advanced stuff is done via video.
  6. Thanks Wiz. Here is my prediction. Before this season is over you are either going to need heavy medication or a sabbatical from looking too closely at the Bills stat lines. But I for one appreciate the work.
  7. I think this is a year that you are going to have to avert your eyes. Ford probably could have re-recruited a couple of the kids that left, kept them here and won 11 or 12 games. Or he could have known that he could recruit over any existing roster player and upgrade the talent if he had scholarships. Honestly, would 11 or 12 wins vs. the 4 to 6 it appears we will win this season have moved the needle? I don't think so. This sucks as a fan but imagine how he must feel when he looks down the bench and sees what the previous regime left us. I guarantee this was all discussed and calculated when he was hired. I don't like what I see on the court and won't for the rest of this season but I put the blame squarely on the previous coaching staff. We have a D2/D3 roster. Look out below when the A10 starts.
  8. Didn't Buzz Williams leave Marquette for Virginia Tech voluntarily after a pretty nice stretch? That one always puzzled me.
  9. This. My daughter played D1 tennis which has a relatively short fall and a full spring season. You start practicing as soon as school starts in August, play 3 or 4 fall tournaments into October or early November. Go back a week early on Christmas break (unlimited practice time when school isn't in session) and then play from mid January until mid April (or later if you make the NCAA's). Add in weight and agility training 3 days week plus practice 5 days a week and matches. It is a lot. And you play ITF tournaments in the summer. This is for a sport where basically no kid that goes to college plays professionally. Yes, they get a scholarship, but they are expected to keep up academically and would like some semblance of a social life.
  10. Maybe Hughes and Walker? Not sure where JW fell nationally but he was Gatorade POY in Kansas out of HS.
  11. Several people from the athletic department read this board. Mission accomplished.
  12. Several people from the athletic department read this board. Mission accomplished.
  13. Bookend wins against Memphis - beating the vaunted City Blocks in 1986-87 at the old Kiel and watching RM coach circles around Pastner in the tournament in 2011-2012. Larry Hughes lighting up Vanderbilt as their bench screamed overrated at him. Beating Missouri under Romar (1999-2000). The beautiful gritty basketball the 2011- 2012 team played. Justin Love's coming out party against KU, Christmas 1998. Being nationally relevant thanks to coach Majerus. Too many to choose just 5.
  14. Wasn't that one called New York, New York for a very brief time in 1983 or 1984?
  15. I think the AAC is a little more top heavy than the A 10 but reasonable people can disagree. UCF did not score at a very high rate and actually scored less than SLU in conference games (hard to believe I know). I am guessing he will be a 22 or 23 year old junior and senior. It is reasonable to think on a team that hopefully averages 70 ppg +/- that he could average 15 based on his body of work so far. I would be thrilled with that output and that to me would mean he would be a very good player for us. Nice to have these kind of discussions again, isn't it?
  16. http://eastman-beaudine.com/what-we-do/collegiate-sports/ BTW, look at what school is listed on the client list of head coaches. Interesting. This firm and Parker are the go to search firms for AD's and coaches.
  17. Same league as his brother? That would be difficult. I have always thought he would wait for NC State, his alma mater.
  18. Played at ND with the UCF AD. Might make that a natural fit.
  19. I am very comfortable saying that is 100% incorrect now that the job is open.
  20. Sendek. Look at his coaching tree. That alone makes him worth interviewing.
  21. I will take the 53 year old HC from 2 BCS schools (second tier in their conferences in both cases) with 8 NCAA bids, NBA draft picks, and who has incubated a pretty good list of other HCs from his staff including the hot young one in our league. On the beach right now so no buyout. That is the type of guy who we have had the most recent success with (RM and to a lesser extent Spoon).
  22. Weber was interviewed during the Romar search after what I believe was his first year at SIU. At that time he talked a lot about the "Purdue" model under Gene Keady. Liberal use of red shirts to allow players to physically mature and the desire to have teams on the floor that featured 4th and 5th year upperclassmen playing against younger teams. Maybe not sexy but a good model I believe for a school like SLU that won't have rosters stuffed with 4 and 5 star recruits.
  23. I have no inside knowledge but have spoken with people inside and around the athletic department. Themes I have heard include that our talent level is below most of the league which is unacceptable. Culturally it would be difficult to pay a coach at SLU $2 million/year but not impossible. There would have to be assistance from outside the program for that type of contract but it is possible for the right coach that is acceptable to those outside the program. And most importantly, the head of the university understands the value of a strong athletic program in terms of profile, engagement with alumni, etc. That could all be BS, but based on the people I have heard it from I choose to believe that the people that need to know and understand, know and understand that something needs to be done. I think it is also important to note that JC was happily retired before this gig. I have to think he could be more happily retired after. I am in the camp that he will "retire" at the end of the season.
