A lot of Drejej's stats were from the first few games. His recent offense has been very limited. Kevin is a much better threat to score. That said what you don't know is the leadership quality. It's hard for a freshman but this should be Tommies Team. He is the guy who's directing trafic and creating the flow of the game. He has a huge basketball IQ.

Looking forward to it. I was a high school student in Ky. when the game was played. I was probably the only kid in the state pulling for Texas Western. I was a Louisville fan who hated Kentucky.

On Slaten's show last night they were talking about a rumor of Grimes transferring to UMSL. If you go to a division 2 program you don't have to sit out. With our lack of bigs I would take him in a second.

Brad cost me $10. I bet Kshoe that he would start off with Dreja on him. I know he would shoot over him but I just felt he would try to turn him into a jump shooter and pray he misses. I hope Tommie stays out of foul trouble and doesn't lose his offensive focus.

Class of 1970.MBA 1972.Stockbroker. Past President of Tip Off Club.I have missed maybe 3 home games since 1966.The only home game missed since 1970 was the day I had knee surgery. Better golfer than Roy. The Shoe's are my sons. SLU has all of my money. Once hit a 3 pt. shot to win a free trip to Florida.

Better. It's a home game. Every home game is winnable.

Someone told me at the game on Sat. that 14000 tickets have been sold.

Are we going to be ok during conference play? ( long)
willie replied to Billiken Rich's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
The original point is not that we are playing it well, but that we are playing from the inside out. When we run back on defense everyone puts a foot in the paint then moves out to the ball. The weakside defender always moves to the middle leaving his man open to catch the ball. I don't think the numbers lie. We give up too many 3's and the percentage is high.I think we lost games to lesser teams last year by allowing lesser teams to shoot the 3 ball. I know there is a certain amount of picking your own poison, but I for one believe that stopping the 3,or holding your opponent to under 30% 3 point shooting is one of the keys to winning consistently. -

I think our 3 pt.defense points out the flaw in the pack defense, or at least our ability to play it the way Brad wants. We give up way to many open looks at the basket under the desire to clog up the middle. This approach is not working on either end. We still give up penetration and are leaving the three pt. line open. I for one would rather put pressure on the ball and take away the 3 pointer. The 3 pointer is the most important play in basketball and stopping it should be defenses first priority. -
We tried it for awhile in the second half. Couldn't rebound.

Shoot the ball TL and IV combine for only 20 fg attempt

I agree. He got beat off the dribble twice in a row. That earned him a seat on the bench. -
Brad was obviously desperate to play as much zone as we did. Tom T said we briefly went to a zone,he was wrong we played zone for a long time in the second half. We couldn't stop dribble penetration, therefore the zone. The only trouble was we couldn't rebound out of the zone and gave up countless offensive rebounds. I've never seen a team give up the baseline as many times as we did last night. Hopefully these are issues that can be corrected. I've never totally bought into the defense is everything that Billiken basketball preaches, but last night our lack of defense was everything.

Schedueling is difficult. The university has shown some sensitivity to this because they were taking a charter flight to Mississippi as they did to North Carolina. They should be back on campus by midnight.

I asked Brad about Kramer as a possible walk -on and he said that if he was good enough to play for us it would be as a scholarship player. He said that there are some limitations the NCAA [or schools] put on walk-on players.
-
Come on''' its fun to call out Roy. He still can't totally admit that he was wrong.
-
I agree with Billikan. You were much harder on Ian then you are currently saying. I accused you of saying that Ian was in the same car as Jason Edwin when they ran over your dog. You really could admit you missed one. I'm willing to admit that so far this year I've been wrong on Dreja,he definitely deserves to play.
-
If I was Brad I would spend todays practice working on passing out of the double team. SIU did a good job of doubling down on Ian in the second half. Our spacing was not good and too many times he had to throw the ball out front. We need to send people to the basket and inside the elbow to make teams pay for the double. I think Ian is a great passer and can beat the double he will see more and more.

Burr-donato-higgins-pollard-rose and sanzere are the only names I know. Why can't we get away from Sanzere?

Given the recent past this may be the saddest......
willie replied to Billiken Rich's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
It's a common problem of coaches telling players what they want to hear in the recruiting process. Rich Grawer allowed Monroe Douglas to play guard when his talents were better at the 3 position. Julian Winfield was recruited to be a point when he couldn't handle the ball. You are correct Jimmie wanted to be a point, seeing that as his road to the NBA. We would have had the same problem as Missouri. -
I don't think I would call Jon Harris a bust at Marquette. He was a pretty good role player and a hellava rebounder. We could have used him.

YES, we have obviously learned a few things already . .
willie replied to DoctorB's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
I don't beleive that. Brad is committed to run. I think he learned last year that if your going to play a grinding half court game you had better be able to shoot the ball. This team is not a good shooting team so therefore you better get your offense from transition. At a tip-off meeting he said he expects to score 50% of our offense in transition. We will run---- for good or bad. -
Hey Bonwich what did you think of the new arena add they played on the board? I thought it was very well done. Coming 2006.
