I have reached billiken_roy levels of posting (7/7)

  1. McCottry was 7-8 from the paint. Brown was 4-6 from the paint. Thames was 5-7 from the paint. Jones was 3-5 from the paint. That's 19-26 or 73%. I'll take that every single game. You would need 49% from the arc to match that. Keep driving guys.
  2. My single highest unexpected positive take-away last night was Dunlap's rebounding. He came in with a career 1.7 rpg. He had 6 last night.
  3. Nov 2, KMOX Sports on a Sunday Morning, Tom Ackerman with Coach Schertz: Coach never sleeps well in season! He likes this team. Work rate is super high. Team orientation, which is hard in today's climate, is there. Very competitive every day. Been going since June 2, so 5 months of practice. Ready for tomorrow. Ackerman on the game tomorrow with Highmark. Thames, Jones, McCottry and Brown all can play multiple spots from a defensive standpoint. This gives the team solutions in a game to attack issues that come up in multiple ways. Amari has taken huge strides. His rim decision is through the roof. He has to be more consistent on every possession. When he is locked in he is a terror on D. Really good at finding his teammates. Brown great in transition. Jones and Thames all as good transition players as you will find in the A10. Thames averaged 16 ppg and 7 boards in 20 min in both scrimmages. Shooting over 80%. He is a little bit of a hybrid. He has quick twitch to touch paint and get his shoulders by the defender. Otieno can guard 1-5. We can play any combo of our top players. Bradley scrimmage - wanted this game away. Bradley is as close to an A10 physically as you will find in the Valley. Good crowd. Game didn't count but the experience did. Didn't like the turn overs. Pace was good. Sharing the ball well. We fouled way too much. We can play a lot better. Redshirting Kalu - try to align what is best for the individual. Wasn't best for the team, as the team is better with Kalu. Kalu wasn't in position to get minutes that he was used to. He has improved since last year. We have guys that can play his position - Dunlap, McCottry, Brown. Gives Jax an opportunity to get minutes. Kalu would not have benefited from spot minutes this season. This is truly looking ahead to next season. SEMO - they won the OVC last year but lost in their tourney. Return 9 players, which is now rare. A lot of the same pieces, but added a good NAIA player. Winning culture. Backcourt is STL grown. They could win 20+ games. High level of continuity. Sound on D. Very physical. They won't be 'wowed' by coming in here.
  4. So do we assume that our Ivy League transfer, a freshman who was recruited by Army, Harvard and a few other top rated academic universities, and a freshman who came to SLU in order to take his time to develop as a basketball player, are all academically ineligible? Or is this a bogus rumor happily forwarded by @slu92 without checking to see if there was any truth to it?
  5. Over the past several months I have seen and recorded 21 different A10 polls. The results are what you would expect. Below is the average rank of each team, along with the number of first place votes in ( ). There is a tight window on the Top 4 teams. It's too bad we play LaSalle twice. 1. VCU 1.9 (13) 2. SLU 2.8 (3) 3. Dayton 3.1 (3) 4. GW 3.1 (2) 5. Loyola 5.0 6. George Mason 5.8 7. St. Joe 7.1 8 Duquesne 8.3 9. St. Bonnie 9.0 10 Richmond 10.0 11.Rhode Island 11.1 12. Davidson 11.7 13. Fordham 12.8 14. LaSalle 13.1
  6. For sure SEMO will start Brendan Terry at 6'7", preseason OVC First Team. He averaged 11.2 ppg last year. He made the only 3 he took last season. Braxton Stacker at 6'5", 8.9 ppg last season, and 6'0" BJ Ward 8.4 ppg likely will start. Stacker was 41% last season from the arc. Ward was 35%. 7' center Elliot Lowndes started 14 of 33 games, played 8.6 mpg, and averaged only 2.3 ppg/2.7 rpg. 6'4" Terry Cole started 19 of 33 games and went for 5.8 / 3.0. They do have two other 7 footers on the squad, FR Trace Sadler and returning SR David Idada who came off the bench for 2.1 / 2.7 in 9.8 mpg last season.
  7. You are welcome Better than reading another Chicken Little's "The Sky is Falling" post.
  8. Richard Kiley and Irving Jacobson were very impressive in the original Broadway Cast. Placido Domingo and Mandy Patinkin were special (maybe better than the original cast?) on the cast recording.
  9. 10/27 Exhibition: Dayton 90, Bowling Green 59
  10. Schertz and Robbie TMA, 10/28. Not much new here, mostly banter. Robbie says this team talks more than last year's team. Team has good relationships. Schertz, very challenging to schedule high level. P4's want to schedule only Q1 or Q4. We have to earn the right to schedule P4's. Working no getting Memphis and St. Mary's on the schedule. If we take care of business this season we can still make an at large. League is up this year, likely 6th best after the P4+1. Robbie, now getting paid. Taxes are the worst part. Didn't make enough freshman year to pay taxes. Now he does. He can buy his family things now. His sister comes to him for items she can't afford. Robbie's favorite fries: McDonald's fries #1, Chick Fillet's #2. (Hard hitting journalism.) Robbie's fav players - Durant, models game after Jokic and Sabonis. Still doesn't have an NIL deal for goggles. Robbie, if you have to chose between G League and Europe, where would you play. He would pick Europe, never been out of the country. Robbie enjoys the Highlands golf course best one he has played. Fav restaurant, Charlie Gitto's. Coach, do you have guards to press in the A10. Yea we can press. We can attack both ends of the floor. We have big athletic guards. To deploy our depth we have to play fast and press ( @billiken_roy should be pleased.) Coach, Fan base is here. There is an opportunity to capture a larger share of the STL market. How we play and how we compete is all part of it. Robbie gets fired up where arena's are sold out, home or away. We will need to thrive off the energy of the home crowd. Ready to go on Monday. In Dayton game, Martin Kilcoyne called Robbie during game (of course by mistake). "Robbie was running down the floor. I hope he doesn't answer!”
  11. Another very informative interview. Q Blair discusses his journey from KC to St. Louis Academy to Loyola and back to SLU. He is very complimentary of the soccer team, the coaches, the athletic department, his tutors, just about entire experience here at SLU. This is his first year as full time Full Back.
  12. Two more exhibition games this weekend: Richmond 63, James Madison 58 Duquesne 83, Virginia Tech 81
