Recruit

Recruit (1/7)

  1. I question the commitment that SLU administration has for athletics in general. Men's & women's soccer might succeed because of local interest in the sport from potential recruits. Otherwise, the teams are usually outclassed. A transfer to The Valley or the OVC might be the right way to go if the administration wants to go cheap. Lower travel costs overall. And, the A-10 has become a 1-bid league, so no loss there.
  2. Time to apply for Valley or OVC membership. SLU might not be in last place there?
  3. This season is the same as attending a 4-month wake @ Kutis.
  4. Under 50% from the free-throw line. That is ridiculous, for a Division I men's basketball team. But, maybe, they're really not Division I?
  5. I have been reading much from others about the talent demise in the A-10. It seems to have become an annual one-bid league. Geographically, other than Loyola-Chicago and Dayton, SLU doesn't fit in. If we can only be a member of a one-bid league, should we consider moving to one where opponents have some regional rivalry and travel difficulties are lessened? Maybe the OVC or Horizon? (No, I don't recommend The Valley, so lower the blood pressure.)
  6. This is an NIT team, at best.
  7. It's good to have a one-game lead heading into the Fordham game; if we don't pack Chaifetz next Friday for VCU, there needs to be an explanation as to whether there is real interest in St. Louis for the Billikens.
  8. Conference geography has a lot to do with this recurring problem. SLU is the farthest-west of the members. As such, "East-Coast bias" is a certainty. Most of the zebras are visiting St. Louis with chips on their shoulders.
  9. And any coach who dismisses the value of the transfer portal is living in the Stone Age. Change you tune or get out of the business!
  10. The pitiful statistics on team defense speaks for itself. This is primarily a coaching issue. The coach can teach positioning and helping out, but teaching a team to "shoot better" is a tall order. Either Ford needs to focus on that or get a defensive-minded assistant coach. The rest of the season will determine what is done or should be done, one way or the other.
  11. Does anyone know what the buy-in might be for the CBI?
  12. The losses to Boise State and SIUE could be killers for The Dance.
  13. The NIL group has become a front for a coach's tampering. Frank Cusumano said that he is sure that occurred, before Collins announced his portal decision. Remember the "Jerry Maguire" line - "Show me the money!" It rings so true!
  14. NIL will transform the non-moneyed schools to modern-day junior colleges. But, what happens when a football or basketball player who received NIL money, but the coach wants to cut him? Does he keep the money, and move on to another school? It happens in pro sports, where the player dogs it, until the next contract. The NIL fund might force the coach to keep the player, even he is non-performing.
