billiken_roy
today's article sucks imo. what's the point of continuing to dwell in the story on Rhode Island cutting the lead at the end of the game? i think tommyboy wishes we would have lost. SLUDrew
At the risk of sounding like the "STL media is out to get us" Mizzou fans, Timmerman seems to regularly point out the negative. I don't understand it. Usually beat writers wind up actually pulling for the team they cover.
kevinfootes
I don't think it's the media's job to deny that. I don't think he said anything that wasn't true. We all want SLU to be better, and the only way that happens is by winning games. If it makes you feel better to blame refs and reporters, go for it. Let's get a big win today! Band Legend
I really don't have any problem with Timmerman in general, but has anyone noticed the further disintegration of the Post-Dispatch? A lack of competition and the sale from Pulitzer to Lee has the paper looking more like a Suburban Journal than a major city daily. On the plus side, there is more than $75 of coupons inside. AlumniFan
The internet is really hurting the print media. The Post is subject to that as much as anyone, plus the lack of competition just makes it worse in terms of the quality of the paper. If a competitive paper was covering the Billikens more closely, the Post would be forced to follow suit, but, alas, the socialist Post is a capitalistic monopoly. How ironic. Box and Won
The restaurant reviews are better than ever though.
cheeseman
The quality of the Post has gotten worse - I travel rather extensively and I read lots of other cities' papers - I am sorry, but many of them are much better than the Post. As far as the Internet is concerned, business are always are under pressure from new technologies - the key is to figure out how to fill a niche. The print media like the auto industry is and stays in denial and refuses to make bold new approaches. They just keep cutting back and lowering the quality. As far as Timmermann goes, he has never written positive articles about SLU even when he had before. He could have focused his article on the upcoming Xavier game and the renewed long rivarly but no he has to focus on past games with other teams. Bluecrewwebmaster
I didn't think the article was that bad. He makes some good points - we did tank at the end of the RI game and had it gone any longer, we very well may have lost. Our offense is unpredictable at best. Never know what you're going to get out of it. On the bright side he did compliment our defense as it has gotten consistent game in game out allowing us to stay in some close games and win some close games. Billiphan
Agreed Webmaster. It was a fair article. There are those on here who complain about the quality of the Post but then want them to be on our PR department. That's not their job. Two whiners in one week, good job Roy. Go Bills!!!! Schasz
What TT has to write about today's effort by our young and talented Bills. It should be very positive.
Bay Area Billiken
Agreed. SLU played a fine game and deserves some credit in the local daily.
cheeseman
The problem with Timmermann's article is not that he said anything that was not a fact but was that he chose to write about those when he could have focused on the good things from the two wins. His comment about the URI game could have been about how the team managed to win a tough road game not that if we had played 2 minutes longer we would have lost. The game is only 40 minutes long so saying if we had played 42 we would have lost is simply stupid - we did what we had to to win. I don't expect him to be our PR person but I do expect him to write complimentary things when the team wins. Can I live with his article today - sure, do I have to like it - no. I will wait to see what he writes in tomorrow's paper. If he focuses on the fact that X shot poorly and that was why we won rather than our stiffling defense then he is wrong and overly negative - lets wait and see.
