  1. It seems like you can't post anything remotely off color these days without it getting deleted. I guess the squeaky wheels are once again dictating policy on here. These are probably the same people who complained and got Vtime banned. The vocal minority gets their way again. At one time you could have a spirited, adult debate on here without it getting censored. People complained forever that the offseason board was the problem and it was "infecting" the bball board. I think we've seen, that like WMD's, this is a bunch of nonsense. Some people on here can't help themselves from reading posters they don't like. Would it be so hard to skip over a topic every now and then? Instead they have to complain to the moderators and then the moderators end up selectively censoring the posters they don't agree with or like. It's surprising because people complain that threads get off topic and it takes away from the "real" bball talk. This amuses me since there is hardly any real bball talk on here. I was shocked when I saw the Rhode Island pre game thread. A pre game thread on an upcoming game is a rarity on here, at least one that gets discusse is. What confounds me are the endless "recruiting" threads that are posted on here. How can there be so many "recruiting" threads when WE DON'T EVER RECRUIT ANYONE?!?!?!?! I would say the recruiting threads and the love/hate Soderberg threads constitued 90% of the posts here. It would be nice to let those of us who like to debate Bills bball and other topics do so without having to fear that we're going to get reprimanded from the teacher. Lets call off the dogs for a while. Let the adults behave like adults again, feelings be damned.
  2. >How many hours does the average billiken.com poster waste at >work on the board? I never consider time spent on the Billikens to be wasted time. You must not be a real Billiken fan. You hate the Bills. The next thing you say will the Bills will the win the NCAA tourney. Go spew your Billiken hatred somewhere else.
  3. >Your vulgar comment regarding 72. Give me a break. It's okay for him to take a shot at me in the opening post of the thread and belittle me in his signature. But when I make one little joke about him the post gets deleted. Besides I didn't even spell out the curse word. I'm guessing you're one of those people who called the FCC and complained that they were going to show the uncensored version of Saving Private Ryan on network TV because you didn't want to be offended by the language. God help the PC police.
  4. >No need to perpetuate another long thread that debates what >constitutes a negative versus positive Billiken fan. What was the reason my Roy post got deleted?
  5. >Phan would you consider UD and UMass top teams in the >conference? > >UD hasn't been to the tournament in three years and hasn't >won a game there in seventeen. UMass has been on the >tournament sidelines longer than SLU. > >In the MVC would you consider MSU one of the top teams? > >MSU hasn't been to the tournament at all under Hinson. Off the top of my head without having looked up recent records or tourney history I would say that Charlotte, St. Josephs, Xavier and GW would be considered top teams. Any team 5 or lower in this conference or any would be considered a "top" team.
  6. >We haven't? I suppose math isn't your strong suit, but we >made it in March of 2002...which is LESS than 5 years ago. > >Let me break it down a little further as to my Duke >comparison... > >SLU had the top RPI coming into conference >SLU had (possibly not sure) the top OOC record coming into >conference >SLU is currently 5-5 in conference (compared to 5-6) >SLU was picked to finish at the very top of the league >85% of the time, SLU will finish one of the top 4 teams in >the conference (that is a subjective stat, but one I assume >we all agree on based on the past year of saying how bad the >A-10 sucks) > >The conference we play in and the teams in our conference is >absolutely irrelevant. This conversation is not how does the >A-10 compare nationally? Not how does SLU copare nationally? >Or even, how many dance invites has SLU gotten. It is, >compared to the rest of the Atlantic 10, where do you place >SLU. I say we are a top team. > >I would be curious as who you would put above SLU as the top >teams and why you say that (ommiting X as that is obviously >1, and I'll go ahead and throw out UMASS due to it's glory >days years ago). We made the NCAA tourney in 2002? I must have been in a coma that year. THe article was about the A10 and the MVC and somehow you're wanting to make an asinine comparison between SLU and DUKE. Please stop while you are behind. You're embarrassing yourself. The next thing you say is they both wear tennis shoes and uniforms and dribble a ball.
  7. >Stop trying to change the subject dude. We are talking about >the A-10 conference and to a lesser extent, how it compares >to the MVC. Within our conference, we are considered a top >team. I've laid out criteria on why I think that is. What is >our average RPI over the past 5 years... how does it compare >with the other teams in our conference. When we joined the >A-10, how many people said we would be one of the top teams >in the conference...where did we end up. Where were we >picked preseason? > >I feel my Duke comparison was legit. I was not saying we are >Duke, or we are as good as Duke, or the A-10 is a comparable >conference to the ACC. I said look at Duke in comparison to >the rest of the ACC. Now look at SLU compared to the rest of >the A-10. I think they are very comparable. > >Perhaps all this is moot as my interpretation may be >different. When Lunardi says the top teams, I take that to >mean the top teams over the last several years...i'd say 5. >When I hear top, I take that in terms of RPI and record. > >If you truly want to discuss this, please try and actually >support your argument. Things like "pleassssse" mean nothing >to me. An intelligent rebuttle would be nice. Perhaps the simplicity is lost on you. I'll try to type slooowwwer. The best I can tell, the "top" teams from the A10 and the MVC have made the tournament in the last 7 years. We haven't. I can't for the life of me think of any conference in the nation let alone of the top 12 that a team could be considered elite and still doesn't make the tourney for a 7 year stretch. Again how can you compare DUKE to SLU in any basketball conversation. They are constantly competing for a top seed in the tourney while we make the tourney once a decaded. To say Duke is having a bad stretch is noteworthy. If this was the Bills we would say it's just another week.
  8. >Well, Mr. Phan, this article was about the A-10 vs. the MVC. >We beat one MVC team and played another one close. We are >currently 4th in the A-10 in RPI. We've beat X, GW, RI, and >SJU. We finished tied for third last season. We had a first >round bye. Coming from a semi-elite conference where we >always finished in the top half. Yes, I think most people >would consider us one of the top teams in the A-10. So top conference teams make the NCAA tournament how often in your opinion? And as for the Duke comparison, pleassssssssssse!
  9. >Given the context of the article, I'd most certainly say we >are considered in the top teams. We beat MO St. and played >SIU close. Nice try though, Debbie Downer. What are you talking about? How can you call this person Debbie Downer? Is it possible at all to have even the slighest negative thought about the Bills and not be labeled some "hater." In what universe does a 5-5 conference record, good for 9th place, in a crappy conference to begin with make one a "top team?????"
  10. >This coming from the guy who has 50% of his posts trying to >find a way to insult Roy. > >C'mon, Phan you are going to miss him tremendously. I would >bet you dream about Roy. Your life was impacted so greatly >by Billiken Roy that you actually have "I hate Roy" in your >sig. It's ok, bud...Roy's a good guy. You don't have to $hit >on everything so people think you're a hardass. I'm sure you >have the link to Roy's pic bookmarked (maybe it was >billsboys who posted that) so you can look at him and remind >yourself of how grand life was with Roy as a part it. I'm trying to figure out why my Post was deleted? What did I say that was so offensive. Can one of the moderator let us know what is appropriate on this board any more. I thought the FCC was bad. Here you can't say anything remotely critical without getting censored.
  11. > > interesting results from our A-10 this season. > >SLU >*beat Ole Miss (Currently tied for 1st in the SEC West with >two preseason Top 10 teams). >*beat Missouri State (Third place in the MVC and on a hot >streak). > >Xavier >*won at VCU (1st in the CAA. the league that produced a >final four team last year. >*beat Illinois (18-9) >*beat Kansas State (third in Big 12) >*beat Villanova > >Duquesne >*won at Boston College (currently tied for 1st in the ACC >with North Carolina. > >Dayton >*beat Creighton (2nd in the MVC) >*beat Louisville (17-8, fifth in the Big East) > >UMass >*won at Louisville (See above) > >we've spent the whole year beating down our own league that >we haven't been paying attention to what has been going on. >we've pointed out the out of conference losses, but we >always seem to point out the losses. I'm not saying that the >A 10 will get a bunch of bids to the tournament (they >probably won't), but to say the league is terrible shows >that people haven't been doing their homework. These are the big wins for our entire conference? This definetly shows how bad the league is this year. THere is not a great team on that list. There are a few good ones. Give me a break.
  12. >My wife and I just got back from I Fratellini. The >atmosphere, food, and service were outstanding. I noticed >that it has been over four years since your employer >published a review if you are looking for a place to check >out. Also Joe, there is a new White Castle in Cottleville. The double cheeseburgers are wonderful. And there fries, which only come in one size, are sumptous. Overall, I'd give it 4 toasted ravioli on the 5 toasted ravioli scale.
  13. >SIU is 52-1 in its last 53 home games vs Valley opponents. >Talk about a homecourt advantage. And people want to >question there talent evaluation because they got an early >commitment from Roundtree. Everybody involved with that >basketball program knows what they are doing. I'm down with that. That program is the one we should be shooting for. We would kill for their success.
  14. >that's too bad, I really liked Hytveldt's game. Weed? Shrooms? How bout some Acid guys? Lets really have some fun. Is this really a surprise to anyone? It's the Pacific Northwest. It's all about granola, dope smoking and jam band listening. I think if they share everything they should avoid suspension.
  15. >You maybe wondering how did B-Roy's Billiken Board Posting >saved a life? Well here is the story..... >....It was March 2003 and I was attached to 3rd ID outside >of An Najaf. A bird had just landed kicking up desert sand >all over us as we eagerly awaited the needed water supply >and first delivery of mail since the ground operations >began. I waited as they opened the mail bag and heard name >after name called and happy soldiers walk away with letters >from home. I had previously arranged for Roy to send me >highlights of the Billikenboard while I was deployed and he >graciously agreed to do so being such a huge fan. So I was >hoping for the news of SLU's run into the NIT. I began to >walk away sullen that my name hadn't been called and I >missed out on Billiken news. Just then I heard, >"Lieutenant, letter for you from some guy named Roy!" from >about 50 yards away. I began to sprint back to retrieve the >letter and at that exact moment a mortar round landed where >I had been standing. If Roy hadn't been such a huge fan and >billikenboard poster I would have never gotten that letter >and I could be dead right now. Roy is a true Patriot, >Billiken fan and asset to the board and I owe him my life.* > > > > > > >*everything in the preceding message is true except for the >part about the mortar round This may be the gayest post ever. I came here to comment on Roy's departure but couln't pass this up. And I thought Roy was an attention *****, you just might take the cake Anal Bomb.
  16. >Nate I totally agree with you. You aren't going to win an >argument with Roy though when logic doesn't come into play. > >Roy I felt bad enough when it was said that Brad didn't >offer Roundtree and he chose SIUC. I feel even worse now >that I know Brad did offer. > >Throw out all the NCAA rules. Unless I go to North this >afternoon and see Roundtree driving off in an Escalade there >were no violations. You have to face facts. Lowery works >harder and inspires kids to come play for him. He has >beaten Brad several times now and will continue to do so >unless Brad changes his ways. > >The fact that podunk carbondale outrecruits us should have >you up in arms. Instead you wanna make excuses, blame >reporters who are giving us valuable information, and come >up with some wild recruiting violation conspiracy. > >You need to face facts. Carbondale is beating our ass at >recruiting in our own backyard. If SLU is to be successful >this cannot happen. You are losing credibility on the board >by not accepting these facts. This isn't the first time Roy has alluded to a school cheating. Roy is the ultimate "where there is smoke there is fire" guy. Who needs facts? Not Roy. It's no wonder he is a slimy insurance man.
  17. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/st...37?OpenDocument We know of their checkered past in bball. I guess the boosters are getting in Zook's pocket now.
  18. >Obviously Cameron is a college basketball institution like >Allen Field House etc....and as long as the ACC keeps its >wealthy tv deals...(approaching $40 million annually, tops >in country), winning basketball...not to mention money Duke >gets from BCS football bowl games...being an ACC football >member...they dont need any bigger sized Arena. > >The atmosphere will definitely improve for SLU...as should >student attendance playing on campus. It would be nice to >get a couple of thousand students a game in new Arena. >Arena is small enough that drawing fans won't be a problem. >Now SLU just needs to win at higher level, and there should >be plenty of atmosphere. The Bills have a LONG way to go before they reach that kind of atmospehere. It's hard to tell really what kind of reaction they get now because they play in that huge arena. An 8,000 fan crowd is quiet in a 20,000 seat arena. In a 10,000 seat arena it's loud. I think it will be better but they have a long way to go with the student section.
  19. >nm Seriously, who is the Wiz and why does feel the need to post a spread for every game. I mean, can't we all just look in the Post for a spread. Who does this guy think he is?
  20. >I think the MVC is a good league too, albeit one that has >figured out how to manipulate the RPI to make its teams look >better than they really are. > >But I don't think the MVC, as it is currenly comprised, is >the right league for SLU. I guess they manipulated themselves to two Sweet 16 bids last year. I can give you two good reasons why the Valley makes sense - SIUC and MO ST. It would be nice for SLU to have a rival for once which both of those schools would become, even much more so than they are now.
  21. >The topic of A10 and MVC has been a large topic on this >board for some time. Many MVC fans deemed it necessary to >chime in recently. I wasn't up or down on anything. I >merely state what is happening. I think the MVC is a good >league. My apologies for lumping you in with the other haters.
  22. >Don't post this on the Valley board. You might incite an >insurrection. It's funny that so many people on this board are down on the MVC yet they're are talked about so much.
  23. >http://slubillikens.cstv.com/sports/m-bask.../012307aaa.html > >http://www.fibaeurope.com/cid_f43ulKJBGLcV...5I3MZ6JB01.html > >Nice job by the SLU Athletic Department. This just shows you how far away we are as a program to being one of the big boys. We're running an internet voting campaign for one of our former players to make an European all-star squad. Crikey!
  24. >seems like whenever SLU misses a recruit, loses a game the >media has been all over SLU and Brad. > >Now watching Stemmler so far this season I have to say he >probably would not have beaten Luke out for the Job, yes he >would have provided depth, but he is only shooting 25% from >three ppoint range in conference. I see why Brad wanted to >see if anyone else was available. The answer to your question is NO. Is the media suppose to write glowing articles about our 2-4 conference record and our poor recruiting? They should be all over us. Give me a break.
  25. >If I was brian, I would want my bosses, Brad Soderberg and >Cheryl Levick cc'd. Especially if you are actually >including your identity(s). > >Like I said below, it is bad enough this board gets kicked >around at the SLU athletic dept. Your behavior solidifies >everything they constantly bring up about billikens.com and >why they give us zero merit. Thanks Where are you getting your info that this message board gets "kicked around" by the athletic dept? Also, why would a college athletic dept give any credence to what some nuts on a message board say anyways?
