2024 SLU Volleyball

2024 schedule is out.    SLU hosting a tournament the weekend of the Bronze Boot!   I shall be back in town.

Coaching staff tried to get these new threads in for last season. This has been the shift in style for volleyball for the last few years. We saw the 00s shift from short sleeve to long sleeve, 20s we’re seeing sleeveless with arm sleeves.

 

They also hired Britni Jaskot. Her role is an additional assistant than they’ve had previously.

The volleyball team kicks off the season this Saturday with a home exhibition game against SIU.  Gametime is 1 PM.

Found the concession cart, they hid it on  the other court, behind the free standing bleachers. No signage.

Bills 25-21 25-22 20-19 so far

theyll play a 4th set regardless of this set outcome.

Billkens win set 3, 25-20, playing 4th set because it’s an exhibition. So far the freshmen who’ve impressed me most are Addy Brus and Tea Kalajdzic. Overall team looks good in their play.

Luckett’s off-season work and improvement is going to be one to watch. She was super raw and inexperienced last season.

Agreed, she looks improved. Also Grad transfer Evelyn Fitz Hale looks good. New Billiken who’s name I want to hear Guy Phillips pronounce: Athena Tsalapatanis.

They play at Arkansas State this weekend.  Friday against Ole' Miss and SEMO, Saturday against Arkansas State.  Anyone know if there is a way to watch?  I am not seeing those games on ESPN+.

I haven't checked but these volleyball MTE will usually only broadcast the host teams matches streaming.

I just looked into it and I'm super surprised. The first two A-State matches will be streamed on ESPN+ but they won't be streaming their match against SLU. There must be a conflict with another sport they need the equipment for. This happened a lot early in the ESPN+ era with SLU softball and baseball. 

 

Edit: ASU football plays at 6. I assume they will want to make sure there are no delays in that broadcast moving equipment from facility to facility between 4-6pm.

After getting swept yesterday morning by Ole Miss,  SLU rebounded with a 3-1 win over SEMO.   They play host Arkansas State this afternoon.  Would be nice to take out the host team this afternoon, however ASU beat Ole Miss yesterday so it will be a tough one.

Weird results. Ole Miss is a bottom half SEC team, but it's still the SEC. SEMO was picked to win the OVC. Arkansas State was voted one of the bottom teams in the Sun Belt.

Billikens lead 2 games to 1 going into 4th game.

Well, SLU loses in 5 sets to ASU. Biggest takeaway from the games this weekend looks like the play of freshman Addy Brus. In the SEMO match, she got 27 kills (out of 53 total by the entire SLU team) and was credited with 28.5 points (out of 75 total for the entire SLU team).  Against ASU, Addy got 21 kills (out of 58 total by the team), and 25.5 points (out of 77 total by the entire team). From a freshman in her 2nd and 3rd college matches.

Addy looks to be the future of this team.....the only question is, is there anyone else that can help her?  I am not sure that relying on one player like that is sustainable.  Can the offense quickly become more balanced?

We are going to need Delaney Rice to step up as she did last year and get more contribution from Luckett. I really like that 3 headed monster at the net.

True and I would expect they will come through, but we also need production from the other OH position.  It appears they really struggled there - at least statistically.
