The Bills over W Mich by 3

This game offers the Bills a chance to get back on track. This will be a tougher game than Detroit.     W. Mich  and the Bills are both rated as C+ teams.  W. Mich is slightly better on Off and we are slightly better on Def.  We should dominate on the boards.  This is one of the few teams that won't beat us on the FT line. Of course we are still broken at the 3pt line...both sides of the ball.  Let's look at the report card.....

The Bills...........................Off..........................................Def

PPG..................................D- ............................................B

FG%..................................D+ ...........................................C+

3P%...................................F+.............................................F+

FT......................................D+

Reb.....................................C- ............................................A-

W Mich

PPG.......................................C+ ............................................D+

FG%........................................C- .............................................C-

3P%........................................C+ ............................................C

FT............................................D

REB...........................................C- .............................................C-

Top 60 Performers in the nation....

SLU......Goodwin  .Assts...50th......Stls..28th.. ...........Foreman....FG%...30th..............French...Blks...50th

W M......Wilder......PPG......58th.....Stls....9th

Bottom line......Here is what we need to do to win....make some 3s....1/3 of them....make some FTs...70%....neither very spectacular numbers but good enough for a win.  We need to stop Wilder...hold him to 15 pts and keep him to 1 steal...if he is guarding you ...play heads up ball.   If we hit the 3s and frees  we will win...if we stop Wilder ...we will win ...If we do both ...we can win big.  If we play like last game...we lose.  This game is ours for the taking if we can put it together.  Let's do it.

If Hines is again our go-to shooter, we'll lose again. I understand why he's playing. I don't understand why he's shooting.

Agree. Any game that Hines is taking 11 shots is most likely a loss. He’s not an A10 level rotation player. And that’s fine. He got a year or two paid for so good for him.

I can’t imagine they are going to let this “investigation” drag on much longer so hopefully Hines finds his rightful spot on the bench.

What if we have our players back?

The simple answer is ....the spread stays the same.

The 2 missing players were figured in at the start of the season.  As the real data comes in they are gradually being phased out. If they were to play in this game, they would be "half in"...which would be about right....as they would not be 100% up to speed or be able to play a full game. If they don't play then the other players will have to pick up the slack....again the numbers are showing that the existing players are picking up about half the slack now.  If the 2 miss this game then they will only be figured in at about 30-40 % in the next game.  If they haven't played by the Oregon St game then they will be off the team...at least as far as the computer is concerned.

Need to do a final wrap up on this game...though not much to wrap up.

Here is our slash line...36/20/ 60...pretty dismal....Here is what a normal slash looks like at this point in time....44/ 35 /70...This is not a good slash ...this is the average slash of all teams at this time. ...And while our overall slash is slightly higher....anytime you fall below  all 3 marks in a game you will lose unless you are playing a bad team. If we make that average slash ...we win.  W Mich was not a bad team ...better than Det....They were just average.  This was supposed to be a very close game...back and forth the whole way with the Bills scratching out a win in the end. If you look at the time line graph ...it in fact was a back and forth close game....until early in the second half and then we ran out of gas.  At the 15:10 mark of the 2nd half ...even though it was still a close game..the computer through in the towel and said that was our last chance to win.

The real stat  in this game that was the killer was the rebounding.  Even with poor shooting and fatigue,  this was the losing stat.  I mention earlier we should have dominated the boards in this game....we were out rebounded 40-28. Those numbers should have been reversed.

It looks bleak for the Butler game....Butler will be a big step up from the last 2 games. If we only play 25 min...we will be blown out. If we play like we did against VT we have a chance to win.....BTW....VT is the # 1 shooting team in the nation. So no matter what we see the rest of the season , we have already seen the best....and beat them.

We will see, I must say that my normal optimism about the outcome has been markedly decreased by the  news that Bess was playing with an injured thumb and French injured a knee in the  last game. I hope they are recovered, we will see if they can play.

According to a tweet from Stu, French's injury is an ankle.  He's day-to-day and isn't expected to practice today.  He also said Welmer could start participating in non-contact drills next week.
