SLUDrew
according to cbssportsline http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/blog/brett-mcmurphy/18923863 Pieces should really start to move when this is officially announced. With ODU leaving the CAA maybe VCU and GMU would be more ready to jump at the opportunity to join the A-10. I am not dying to be conference mates with either of those schools, but if we add a Butler, VCU and GMU we could very safely say the A-10 has become the best non-BCS basketball conference. In other words, SLU would be in the best league it could hope to be in. That's all any of us want
billiken_roy
one thing for sure, our additions are quality. if we trade temple and charlott for butler, vcu and gmu, imo the conference is stronger. the same cannot be said for the big east imo with their moves the last few years and forward. jbizzle09
From reading this, it looks like the CAA will basically cease to exist after next season. Also, CUSA is going to be a TERRIBLE basketball conference, probably one bid more seasons than not.
Cowboy
-if caa schools are in a bad way do we have any leverage to make them pay more to join the a10? -would they be good additions to the a10? -the only other non-bcs league in our strata is mtn west and BAB may argue for wcc (and i might agree)
ARon
Mtn west - CUSA merger, if it still happens, will drag the Mtn west down. Too many weak members to claim to be a premiere conference. And if ND, UL, and UC leave the Big East. The A10 will have a legit arguement for being just as good as what's left.

I definitely agree that the A-10 is taking the initiative to put itself in prime-time position to be a safety net if and when the BEast dissolves. slu72
SLU's got to stay respectable is the key to it's future in college hoops. Whenever a Beast implosion discussion starts it always begins w/ X and Dayton. Now they'll add Butler to the mix. The BB only schools in the Beast will be sweating it when UL, UC, CT, Rutgers and, possibly, even ND pull out and head for the ACC, Big 12, and Big 10 respectively. Then they'll pull out and HAVE to woo A-10 schools to join them, or else the A-10 will be the driving force and decide which Beast schools they'll cherry pick from to round out the conference. Obviously, the A-10 will then have to cull some of their deadwood, eg Fordham, Duquense, LaSalle, etc. At this point it doesn't stretch the imagination to see a 16 team A-10 with an East and West division that could be like the 4th or 5th best BB conference in the country. Time for SLU to get really serious about continuing its recent success over the next 3-4 years.
