McCall Video

I don't believe this has been shared before, but here's an interview with McCall and numerous clips put together by Chicago's own version of V-Time. There are also some clips on the page from Nequa Valley games, so some Evans highlights. Enjoy.

I think someone posted this video about 2 weeks ago but i guess for anybody that missed it, its a good chance to see our guard of the future.

Figured this was as good of a place to post this as anywhere.

Mike McCall and Dwayne Evans' respective teams both begin their playoff runs tonight. McCall's Foreman team opens up against Prosser, which was Marque Perry's alma mater. Evans' Neuqua Valley team plays Plainfield North.

Apparently Evans is nursing an achilles injury, which caused him to miss a couple games at the end of the regular season. In an article probably a week or so ago, Dwayne indicated that he thought he would be back for the playoffs, but I found no articles in the last day or so making that definitive.

And for the hell of it, Porter's former HS Benet Academy, begins its playoff run tonight as well. Went undefeated in conference play this season, probably the most successfull team since Porter was actually at Benet. It looks like they are 21-3, #3 in their sectional and play Glenbard North at Geneva tonight. They would end up playing Nequa if both of the teams continue to win.

Psh, nationally ranked by who? NBAdraft.net? Haha. No but seriously, you shoudl at least cheer for them to win until the Nequa game so I'll have some incentive to see Evans play.

That first pass he makes is NASTY. As a mixture of a 2 guard and PG his athletic ability and start/ stop jump shots remind me a little of another Chi-Town Jesuit University player...ahem ahem ahem...Dwayne Wade. I might get shot at for saying that but he does have some similarities with his quiet attitude and silent assassin ways. He also (from the videos I've seen) shows a great ability to knife through traffic and get to the bucket i.e. Wade. Hope this kid develops into something special.

Wade's Situation on recruiting was different as was his role at Marquette. Wade was recruited more highly then McCall but most of those universities were eventually turned off by the fact that he had to sit out a year for academics. He also didnt handle the ball as a point guard as Travis Diener held down those duties.

I see the similarities in terms of a slasher type. From what i remember watching in college Wade wasnt a shooter of any regard. Wade relied on a strong/powerful center in robert jackson his sophmore year in order to drive the ball and pass off to someone as the defense collapsed. He made dazzling fall away and falling down plays. Also i think an advantage he has over mccall is general strength/size. Mccall looks to be about 4 inches shorter and about 20-30 pounds lighter. Wade was a terrific rebounder for that Marquette team as Crean really harps on all his players to rebound.

I just dont see Mccall being able to take the blows of larger players and get above their height on his jumps in order to get clear shots ala Wade. He could be productive at it just not as effecient and the role of KM as a scorer and my thinking that Km along with KC will slash more next year will leave Mccall like JJ this year on the outside of the arc.

Agree with most of your points. D Wade is listed at 6'4'' but ive seen him in person and theres some Charles Barkley height fudging there. Mccall is listed at 6'2'' so theres no telling if that height is legit either. D Wade now outweighs Mccall by 20-30 lbs but at MU he was much lighter. He can definitely develop that weight and muscle like Kwamain has if hes willing to put in the gym time. Look at a picture of Kwa last year and then this year. It looks like he put balloons in his shoulders (weight room). Not saying Mccall is the second coming of the Flash. Just saying I really think this guy is going to surprise a lot of people with his abilities and contribute a lot next year.

I think its a foregone conclusion that McCall is the next Dwade, will win an NBA championship, will be MVP of an NBA all star game, and win a gold medal for team USA basketball.

I wish. Its difficult for me to make that transition because I was a Marquette fan growing up and especially the Wade to diener to Novack to Mcneal years until i came to SLU. Still get chills every time i see Wade play because of all the classic games i went to while he was at Marquette. I remeber him being skinny at Marquette but by no means was he weak. He drove hard and he took contact and he was something special. I could only dream of SLU snagging someone as good as him both personally and on the court.

And scout has mccall listed at 6' even..

We've got another Gallagher on our hands.

My bad on the height thing. Was going off a different website.

I didn't see it posted, and frankly, just looked at the first page, so forgive me if it's a duplicate.

Majerus was on with Doug Gottlieb, and talked about McCall. He said that when he was with Utah, after he got Andre Miller he told everyone he had just gotten the best Guard out of Los Angeles. He didn't care if the kid was rated a 1 star, 2 star, 3 star or 5 star, he was the best Guard out of Los Angeles.

He then said that is what Mike McCall is. He doesn't care that he is rated 2 star, that he is the best Guard out of Chicago, and that he will be a STAR. He said he expects him to play right away, and be a great player before he leaves. He then emphasized again, that he was the BEST Guard out of Chicago.

Big praise for a coach that respected to say.

Hadn't heard that interview. Thanks for that.
