Thanks for starting this thread. I’m cautiously optimistic a loss in the final to VCU or Bonnies would get us in the tournament, assuming we beat the other on the way.

Yeah, the bad conference angle is lazy and wrong. If anything, their conference has hurt them over the years. Until recently, recruiting was still a challenge for them, and the conference caused them to get under-seeded in some of the early years.

We all know our downside - missing the NCAA tournament. What is our seeding upside if we win out through the A10 tournament? I assume that would put our NET around 30 with a 16-5 record and 2 of the losses potentially weighted less harshly because of COVID.

Not only that, but it probably only works if the final loss is to VCU or St. Bonaventure. I doubt the selection committee would give us an at-large bid as the 4th A10 team in.

2 things: First, I’m not sure which 3 point contests you’re watching, but every one I’ve seen involves stationary shooting from 5 separate locations. Second, saying Jimerson should be moving more to get open or in rhythm is an entirely different point. Even if that’s true (I don’t know), some blame could be given to the offense the team is running.

We’re seeing different things. At least once per game he catches the ball needing to shoot almost immediately and does so, often from the exact position he catches the ball. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen someone as able to do so, but I also think this had created a bad habit for him of rushing sometimes when he doesn’t need to.

I couldn’t disagree more. The main problem Jimerson has is a lot of his shots are rushed because he’s facing pressure. Often times he doesn’t even rise up on these shots.

But your argument is weakened if the prior two games don’t negatively impact us. In other words, our last two losses wouldn’t have been nearly as devastating without the initial Dayton and La Salle losses.

Who is the 3rd? I only see St. B and VCU, with Richmond listed as first four out.

Michigan State still has work to do and they have a tough road ahead. They likely need to win 2 or 3 more games. @ Maryland, vs. Indiana, @ Michigan, vs. Michigan, Big Ten Tourney. Things could fall apart quickly.

I disagree that the NET ranking doesn’t/won’t matter, but I agree with your overarching point that NET shouldn’t be our primary concern at this point. Essentially, we should win the A10 tournament if we get hot enough to get back on the bubble. Unlikely at this point, but the path to an automatic bid is very similar to an at-large bid (win a lot of games).

I’ve always found it interesting how in soccer everyone (coaches, fans, media, etc.) openly talks about whether or not a player is “in form”. You don’t hear the same level of open dialogue in other sports.
