  1. Hundreds of thousand of dimes, in the case of the 3 guys who landed elsewhere!
  2. I’ll contend pretty adamantly that last year was worse than both of the final 2 Crews years. When you look at the increase in coaching salary and financial investment in the program, Travis’ final year was objectively a disaster. That’s all in the past though. New coach, new era, new Billikens.
  3. Yeah the new-ish Pitbull-Zac Brown song. Nice touch by the stadium DJ.
  4. I can’t wait for 48 hours from now when we can actually look forward to SLU’s new coach and all the possibilities he brings, and not debate AM radio hosts and their feelings towards the Billikens. The last 3 weeks have felt like an eternity.
  5. Something really important to keep in mind is that the AD who hired him is gone, with an interim in place. The president is on the way out as well. There’s a lot of uncertainty regarding the future leadership of ISU, with those two spots as an unknown. My hunch is that his plan has been to get out for several months now, regardless of what type of raise Indiana State can come up with.
  6. Jerry Stackhouse also had a G-League title. Never danced at Vandy.
  7. It’s primarily local media who want access to the program that would be furthered due to a personal relationship. At least in the case of Frank that’s what it is. Other media pushing it just don’t have a high view of the program, and think it’s a nice place to have a local guy because it’s a nice story and they don’t have a concept of what SLU spends on the program.
  8. Ford needs to be gone before midnight on Sunday. The portal opens on Monday, and any illusion that he will be here next season will only hurt SLU’s efforts to attract players here. The new coach might still be working, but a handshake deal needs to be in place sooner rather than later.
  9. I think it’s way more likely Porter uses SLU for leverage than actually ending up here.
  10. Record was spot on, but the place was actually one spot worse. What an absolute mess of a season.
  11. Wouldn’t look into this. The PD has had budget issues, and it seems they’re just not sending their best writer to save on some expenses.
  12. If I was getting paid 2.5 million dollars, I’d be pretty desperate to save my job too.
  13. With the NCAA being pretty toothless against multi-time transfers now, I wouldn’t be surprised to have most of the roster enter every off-season from here on out, just to gauge what their markets are.
  14. This might be a bit controversial, but more often than not, local players have inflated reputations. The program isn’t going to advance forward without recruiting other locations well. There has to be a mix.
  15. It is way too late for that. May realistically needed to be gone January 1st in order to have a new person in place to make this hire.
  16. This is very reasonable, and if there is a choice between both, I’m honestly not sure which guy I’d hire. That being said, I’m not sure if Mack legitimately will be on the table. There are some jobs that inevitably will open that he’d be in heavy consideration for.
  17. Can’t you say that about every candidate at the end of the day? There’s evidence the guy can coach. Yes, it’s at a lower level, but the mentality that guys need P5 experience to be a good coach are antiquated.
  18. The way I view it is this: I’d rather be a year early on Schertz than a year late on a P5 guy dropping down. He’s got a wildly successful track record at the D2 level, and it’s showing that it translates to D1. Has he lost to bigger opponents on their schedule? Yes. But he’s doing something at Indiana State that hasn’t been done since Larry Bird. His coaching plus the jump in resources would be a lethal combination.
  19. UMass is leaving the A-10 for the MAC after next season. https://theathletic.com/5301023/2024/02/26/mid-american-conference-umass-expansion/
  20. This team stinks on the road and on neutral courts. This is a fun game, but let’s not get our hopes up.
  21. When Hurley landed UConn I thought it was a tremendous reach on the part of the Huskies. As much as I hated him at Rhody, he’s continuously evolved as a coach and turned out to be pretty dang good in the process. While SLU isn’t UConn, it shows what hiring a guy on the upswing of their career, instead of the downward trajectory, can turn into.
  22. Schertz also could conceivably bring a good chunk of that roster with him.
  23. I truly don’t know what Chris May has done to earn such a fervent defense argument as, “well actually, it’s the BoT who are to blame.” The way I see it, he’s had two major impactful decisions in his tenure. 1. The extension for Ford. On its own, it wouldn’t be a disaster if it was not such an inflated amount, but it is, and he was played for a fool. 2. The Champions Center. A nice facility upgrade, but not the game changer it was marketed as. His overall tenure is pretty uninspiring in the context of where SLU Basketball has gone under his watch. I don’t trust him in the slightest to make a good hire, and disagree entirely with the notion the BoT should have ignored the contract he negotiated. That’s not the function they serve, and a competent AD wouldn’t have agreed to the terms Chris May did.
  24. Just let Wiz’s computer program create the game plan if those are the options
  25. Yeah I see what you are saying @slufan13 If they were to keep him on in some sort of fundraising emeritus role, but let someone else take over the day to day, that feels like a fine arrangement to satisfy the biggest number of people.
