  1. The art of prediction at its best. Keep a hold of this list until the end of the season and then calculate how many of these predictions are correct, and how many are not and by what % deviation. You will open your eyes when you find the number of incorrect predictions by over 40% and 50% either over or below of where the teams actually end the season.
  2. As long as they can move and use their strength in the proper way this is wonderful.
  3. Wiz, you said what I said above but restated it by saying that statistically "more probable" outcomes required lower estimates of anticipated results for this year. The statistics you are referring to are the standard models that give a fair amount of weight to the results of the prior year. Why not say that to be bound to statistics based upon last years' results introduces significant errors in the preliminary results since there has been an abnormally large change in the makeover and composition of the team which cannot be adequately accounted for using statistical models based upon last year's performance. In other words, there is so much difference between last year's team and this year's team that it cannot be correctly accounted for using the standard modeling methods. We both concluded that until the first 8 games are done, stats based upon last years' team have a "high probability" of being invalid (although you did not say it as directly as I did). We are in the same boat, we are both believers in the Bills.
  4. Whatever SI or Kenpom is ranking SLU at and as long as the ranking is based upon last year's team's performance, you must consider the ratings given to SLU as invalid. We have what amounts to a vastly improved team, the only question being how well integrated it will be at the beginning of the season. I think that for a valid ranking, we must wait until the results for the first 8 or 10 games of this season are in.
  5. Sulfan have you seen and follow, even in a cursory fashion, what is going on with Weinstein in Hollywood. This high and mighty mogul of the cinema, apparently required sexual fees from all kinds of women as the price to get a part in movies. He did this for years. There are dozens of women coming out and speaking about their experiences with this guy while getting movie parts. Now the guy is in therapy (good chance it will change him, don't you think?), has been fired from his own company who has gone bankrupt and seeks to be bought by some investor group. The funny thing about this mess is that everybody in Hollywood did the same, period. No saints out there, this was business as usual. Weinstein is being crucified for doing the same as dozens of others did and continue doing. Do you think this will spread around? It is quite likely it will. So how is it different from what goes on in the schools, do you think this use of the Title IX umbrella may extend across campuses rapidly?
  6. Let's hope he does, maybe just maybe he learned something important this last year.
  7. 3 star please, what do you mean we may reach Idiocracy within our lifetime, I think we reached it some time ago already. I will agree if your point is that it will get stupider and stupider with the passage of time.
  8. Of course the judicial arm waits for the police investigation to finish before deciding whether or not to charge anything, that is what I said. The rest of this discussion above can be summarized by saying that all the issues talked about in the last few posts are an important inducement (as it was in fact the case) to farm out the title IX investigation to a law firm. We will see how this plays in the end.
  9. 3 Star, the police does not file charges, they do the investigation under the direction of the judicial which then decides whether or not to file charges. The police investigation may be finished before the decision is reached by the judicial.
  10. If I did not misunderstand, Underwood may fall under the FBI investigation, is this so?
  11. Good for Willie, at least he is still doing well where it counts the most for him.
  12. I do not think anyone is getting rid of Welmer at this time.
  13. OK, as long as there is no actual evidence that someone fired shots inside Cardinal Glennon or in its parking lot, there is nothing to add to this other than saying that there were no shots fired, which is what I think the SLU reports are saying. Everyone agrees?
  14. I like Tatum a lot and think we will see the breadth of his love for St. Louis, and possibly for SLU as well, in time. He is a fine kid, a fine player, there is nothing not to like about him.
  15. Ford has his own plan which he is not sharing with anyone. By saying Welmer is going to be out of play until conference play time, presumably to allow time to heal better, he is also saying that he has no need for Welmer to play during the first half of the season and therefore he is more than willing to allow the extra time for additional healing and more practice (to make up for lost time so far). What I just said is my own interpretation, not necessarily a factual interpretation either. If he really needed Welmer playing right away, he probably could be rushed into play with some increased risk of fracture to do so. As far as I see, this is not the case now.
  16. At your service with my comments, walking around campus without a boot places nowhere near the stress level on a foot as playing a competitive basketball game does. Ford is doing the right thing to do.
  17. The outside law firm will also eliminate any possibility of a more lenient action against the players because they are seen as vital to the health of the basketball program at SLU. The outside lawyers will have absolutely no bias in this regard.
  18. Great! that is probably the best way to do it. If you can add, you will realize that the event happened September 26, that is 21 days ago. That is the day when the letter by Pestello went out. OK so we have 21 days gone since the letter went out. The title IX investigation does not have to start until the police investigation is finished. There is no certainty that this has happened yet. After the police investigation is finished the University title IX process starts. They have 60 days to complete the University process, this is not counting any possible delays or extensions that might be granted for specific purposes. Are you aware that if the process is not followed scrupulously, the University may lose federal funding? You can bet money they will cross all the "T"s and dot all the "i"s before they complete the process. The 21 days that have passed so far are plainly not enough time for the whole process to be concluded. If you and a lot of other insecure people that need answers right now can not wrap your minds around the timetable for this thing to be processed and come back whining every 10 days or so about the fact that it all should be done by now and that you need to know NOW, then yes, it is time for me to post another installment of the same story, that can indeed by summarized as you did plus a couple of items that are missing. As follows: - Nothing has been determined, criminal or title IX - We have no idea when something will be determined - Nobody on this board knows anything - The school has no concept of expediency on this topic. The school has gone through this before and is aware of the consequences of botching the process, they are not likely to speed things up (this correction is needed). - About 10 days have gone by, they have surely completed the whole thing by now, the lawyers said there was no criminal event, why haven't we heard anything? That was a good summary kshoe but it ain't over till its over. If you ask nicely I can switch the long version for a short: "It ain't over till its over.," would that please you and keep the whiners from going insane for the next 39+ days?
  19. You are all assuming that the process is close to the end point. The fact, real fact, is that not one of us knows exactly what is going on at this time. Since practices are apparently including everyone not injured, the tendency is to assume the process is over or will be over soon. It may or may not be. Title IX considerations and rules do not include whatever is the best result for a basketball season, they go their own merry way which is independent of the basketball season or the team needs. it is plainly unrealistic to think that the players are free and clear if you see them play this year. Maybe they are maybe they are not, assumptions and worries have nothing to do with the process. It will be done, it will be finished, and this will happen in its own time when all the requirements are fulfilled and not before, basketball practice or playing are not part of the rules they are dealing with.
  20. And how do you know he was in Columbia, because of the picture at the football game?
  21. I think the Jesuits should reinstate the time honored tradition of sprinkling saltpeter liberally over all food served at the on campus eating places.
  22. Thank you almaman and Quality is Job 1. I am not joining this because I just cannot predict anything accurately without numbers. But I will enjoy following the predictions and blow outs as they come.
  23. OK almaman please explain, what did my close to senile brain miss about JMM's post?
