  1. Lol I was exaggerating but he did touch everyone’s microphones as a joke. Here’s the video
  2. The Utah Jazz and OKC thunder are currently quarantined in the locker rooms at Chesapeake arena because Rudy gobert licked all the microphones the other night as a joke and now probably has coronavirus ...... the nba has suspended the SEASON?? As I was typing this
  3. My work is a contract research organization. One of the projects right now is studying coronavirus as a contractor for the US govt. They did a reddit AMA for those interested. I don’t work in that division (I’m on the pharma R&D and analysis side), so I am not an expert, but the people answering these questions are.
  4. i work for a company actively studying the coronavirus. Even if half the population is wearing a full burka I doubt the material is rated to capture droplets containing the virus. per the WHO, even surgical masks are not effective unless coupled with copious hand washing, taking measures to not touch your face, and switching the mask out really often.
  5. I have to say I'm not surprised. Lots of international sporting events have either been canceled or played in empty arenas. I just saw that they canceled one of the biggest non-grand slam pro tennis tournaments that was set to take place in CA. sounds like the NBA is making some changes to protect players, like not letting media in locker rooms and increasing space between players and fans. SXSW which is a huge event was canceled. one of the biggest trade shows in the industry i work in was just canceled because pfizer and johnson and johnson pulled out. if they make any alterations to the A10 tourney i hope they opt for some of the changes the NBA is making rather than canceling the tourney. i have to agree with whoever said there's too much money in the TV broadcast for them to cancel, so at least we have that in our favor, but bottom line i will be very sad if i don't get to watch more billiken basketball this year and feel very sorry for our players if they have their season abruptly cut short.
  6. My understanding is that the 19% number is an enrollment number. Figure 1, pasted below, suggests that 50% of grad transfers overall get a degree, but the numbers for men's basketball and football are much worse (34 and 31%, respectively--the 50% number weights all D1 grad transfers the same, i.e., women's tennis grad transfers are the same as MBB). So your assertion that most don't get a degree is correct, but it's more like 1/3 than 1/5. However, I would be willing to bet that the numbers would be even worse if you broke it down further to the top programs vs. the more academic institutions, but I don't see any data on that reported.
  7. There's data on this; see link below. http://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/research/academic-outcomes-division-i-postgraduate-student-athletes
  8. My dad is a ~5 handicap golfer and suffered with the yips a few years back when he was going through some health issues that were stressing him out. There was some book that he read that really helped him but I can't remember the title of the top of my head....if you are still having issues and are interested, I can find out.
  9. Here's my hot take, because i love getting into semantics (i think you and i are in agreement): "one bid league" is pretty specific and describes a conference in which the winner of the conference tournament will be the only NCAA tournament team regardless of if said team is the best team in the conference. The A10 is not a "one bid league" because if someone other than Dayton wins the conf. tournament, Dayton will still be in the tournament no matter what. Even if Dayton does win the A10 tourney and the conference only gets one bid because of that, I wouldn't describe the A10 as a "one bid league" -- I would describe it as a conference with one team in the tournament. "one bid league" is a bit of a misnomer because it describes the quality of the conference, not the actual number of bids received.
  10. My main beef with all the NET Quadrant talk is that it always sounds like some weird cult/corporate speak and makes you sound like a dweeb. It reminds me of this Management By Strengths personality thing we have at work that characterizes personalities into colors. You hear people saying sh!t in the hallways like, "Oh yeah, Rachel is SUCH a GREEN!!" and it sounds so dorky. Has the same energy as rattling off how many Q1 wins a team has. I get that it's necessary to talk that way since that's what the selection committee uses. But it's lame.
  11. Exactly. FSMW is ~75% of the reason I have any kind of live TV at all and I have zero loyalty to YTTV (or any other service). If they drop those channels I will go to Hulu or DirecTV streaming or whatever is the best deal that carries them in a heartbeat. You’re also correct that it’s SO much easier to cancel and switch streaming services than traditional cable. It took me two hours and three representatives/“let me speak to your manager”s to cancel my cable last year and that was because I was moving to a new city that didn’t even have that provider!!! The ease of canceling probably contributes to customer satisfaction but I’m sure they lost a lot of money on it over the past few days.
  12. I wonder how much money they were hemorrhaging. They must not have realized how many people subscribe solely for MLB/NHL/college basketball. We have YouTube tv and were planning to cancel on March 1 once the changes went live. We’ll stick around til we see what happens I guess.
  13. I feel like this actually could be good for the game. People don’t like to think of it as a market, but it is one, and the sitting out a year makes it much less efficient. A more efficient market with more mobility both ways seems like a good thing. With regard to whether it helps or hurts SLU, seems to me like it would help. There are plenty of kids riding the bench at P5 schools who could get minutes in the A10. The sit out a year rule is a disincentive to go get more minutes at another school, creating an inefficiency. Remove that disincentive and I think SLU can capitalize. And if there are stars at SLU who would jump ship for a blue blood in the future, seems like that would mean they haven’t bought in, so fine, they can go. If we have people riding the bench who can go get minutes on a worse team without sitting out, that’s great for them and I wish them the best. Seems fine.
  14. This outfit lasted ten minutes before a blowout. Hopefully it’s foreshadowing of what we do to VCU.
  15. Just catching up on like 2 weeks of posts because my sleep schedule is completely jacked (turns out I have less time on maternity leave to read the boards than I did at work) but wanted to give a straight female perspective I can’t believe there’s any argument on Jimerson’s hotness. He could get it for sure.
  16. Jett because his athleticism. Loe was because his accent and also a little bit of affirmative action; feel like I didn’t include enough white guys. after more thought I think I should’ve had Ash and also it’s really offensive that I didn’t put Bess on this list. In my defense I was nursing a newborn while I wrote this post.
  17. All-hot team*: Evans, French, Jimerson, Jett, Loe *Full disclosure: I started following SLU during the Majerus years when I was a student there.
  18. Thank you everyone for the well wishes! Perry is getting a Billiken onesie from mom for Christmas. I will share a photo once she wears it
