  1. Others defended Medley and I agree with them. I'm going to defend Thames. I think he would be much better on a better team. He has shown signs of being able to rise up and score jumpers within 15 feet of the basket. He's a very good rebounder. I do not think we have seen his full potential yet, and his athleticism just adds to the idea that when he's put in the right situation, he has a very high ceiling.
  2. I don't disagree, but that still doesn't make a jesuit from Creighton someone who cares about our athletic programs.
  3. I'm not sure I agree. If the board was made up of 9 influential alumni, I would have more faith that those alumni would be fans of our athletic teams and understand the value of having successful athletic programs. When I hear that jesuits from other universities are on our board, I have very little faith that those gentlemen are strong supporters of our athletic programs. In fact, I think those folks may not care at all about what happens with our athletic department.
  4. I'm sure it is. I just think that when you have that many board members, whatever school it is, and maybe its all schools, that means that the board isn't really running anything. For most decisions, a board of that size has to be just rubber stamping. I wasn't aware that schools like SLU and others had boards that big that really must not have all that much control over anything. Now I know.
  5. The fact that there are 38 members of the BoT tells me its a joke and that the members have no real power other than to rubber stamp decisions. Normal boards have, what, like 9 members? 38 is just ridiculous and highlights the idea that Pesty probably has no real oversight.
  6. I want to provide some clarity on my thoughts on Schertz vs Mack. Schertz has been coaching a D1 program for two and a half season and has been successful in the last year and a half. He has no wins over any team of consequence during that time. This doesn't mean he wouldn't be successful at SLU. It just means he doesn't really have a track record to rely on. Chris Mack coached Xavier for 9 seasons. During that time, they went to the NCAA tournament 8 times, to the Sweet 16 four times, and to the Elite 8 once. In his first two years at Louisville, they should have gone to the tournament twice, but one year got messed up due to Covid. He went 13-7 in the next weird 20/21 Covid season. Then got fired halfway through the next season. Given the above, I don't think it's a close call by any means. That being said, I do understand the idea that guys want to look to someone they feel we have a reasonable chance of getting. However, if we had a chance to get both, Mack is the clear winner.
  7. No. He actually got two big non conference games and lost them both.
  8. Given their lack of signature wins, I’m not sure that Indiana State gets an at large bid if they don’t win their tournament.
  9. Pay attention dumb$&#, I’ve been saying Ford needs to go. I just don’t see why everyone is in love with Schertz.
  10. We could also be a year too early on realizing he can’t beat anyone better than Drake. I’m not saying the Schertz guys are wrong. I’m just saying there’s no evidence their right, and all they are basing things on is really, really hoping he does well.
  11. I know everybody’s down on getting a guy who just came out of a P5 program, because that’s what our current coach is. However, I don’t think that’s necessarily a reason to steer clear of those guys. I think those guys can do just as good of a job in turning us around and also deliver players immediately. Also, if they have success, they’re more likely to stay and finish things out here rather than try another P5 program.
  12. I understand the draw of getting a younger guy who’s on the rise. The problem is I just don’t see who they’ve beat this year. I don’t wanna get too excited about a guy who hasn’t really accomplished anything this year, at least not yet. If Drake is your best win this year and you also lost to Drake that’s not all that exciting.
  13. This seems to be one of those teams that is never really out of a game with their ability to score runs.
  14. TJ scoring 11 points in 30 (or whatever) seconds and hitting the long buzzer beater has to be an all time Billiken moment.
  15. Everyone is in love with Schertz, but his evidence of success at the D-1 level consists of one and a half seasons and no tournament appearances yet. It's amazing to me how the momentum on this board flows. In the past, guys were absolutely adamant that we get a guy with a history of success in getting to the tournament. Now, because a guy's name is popular, its okay to get a guy with no track record. Let's look at this season. Who is Indiana State's biggest win this season? I don't see one. They have lost to Michigan State (by 10), Alabama (by 22), Drake (by 11), Illinois State (by 13), and Carbondale (by 5). I have to guess their biggest win is over Drake by 8, but this is just a wash since they lost to them by 11 on the road. Is this the track record you guys are all fired up about?
  16. Am I missing something? Grizzlies have a 9 game losing streak. They bring in JG and give him some decent minutes, including a start, and win their next two games, including one over the Bucks. Then, the very next game, JG doesn’t see the court, and they lose. What’s wrong with their coach.
  17. I predict that Jimerson will have a big game, because he will finally have a situation where the defense's focus is on someone else.
  18. So, before JG joins the Grizzlies, they have a 9 game losing streak. Since joining, they have won two games. In the game JG started, the Grizzlies beat the #3 team in the Eastern Conference.
  19. So are you saying that it is the Grizzlies' front office that is responsible for Ja Morant's situation and not Ja Morant?
  20. If he was directing his comment at certain boosters who paid their own money to make a specific coaching hire happen and then that coaching hire didn't work out, then there is maybe an argument there. He didn't say that. He said basically said "SLU and its boosters failed mightily this year" referring to some obligation he feels that donors to our program have to the players who are collecting a salary to play. I have a problem with blaming anyone who donates their hard earned money.
  21. He said "Also these players deserve for schools to do whatever possible to give them the best shot at winning (this is where SLU and their boosters have failed mightily this year)." Let's say that someone donated $50,000 to the BVF this year. Did that person fail the players "mightily" because he or she was a booster who gave $50,000 of their hard earned money? Sorry, but that comment just doesn't make any sense. How exactly did the people who gave money to try to help the fund that pays the players fail mightily? Also, and this is a completely different take, players are getting paid to play now. Once you cross that line, no one owes you anything other than the money that you have been promised.
  22. Whoa. How much have you contributed to the BVF? Don't tell other people how to spend their money and don't criticize those that contribute more than you to make our program successful.
  23. The Grizzlies roster is full of non-P5 players: Gilyard (Richmond), Watanabe (George Washington), Goodwin (SLU), Vince Williams (VCU), Aldama (Loyola-Maryland), Morant (Murray State), Brandon Clark (Gonzaga), Derrick Rose (Conference USA at the time), Jemison (UAB), and Konchar (Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne). That's ten non-P5 players on the roster.
