If that was the last time, then we are in historic territory here.

Does anyone know the last time the Billikens had two former players in the League at the same time? I may be missing something obvious, and, if so, let me know.

Coach Schertz on the Radio 4/28 Press Box w/Frank
cgeldmacher replied to HoosierPal's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
Add to this the idea that if you only primarily play 5 guys, then the rest of the guys on your bench are not getting developed. These kids have been playing 50-60 plus competitive basketball games every year since junior high. Then, all of the sudden, they are getting into very few games and only getting five minutes in the games they get in. After 18 months of not getting into games, the upward trajectory of a kid levels off or drops. -
My crew had a great time in Chicago despite the loss. Loyola is a good place to visit for a road Bills game. The red line drops you off right next to the arena. Good spot to hang out before the game was Bruno's. It's right near the arena and the red line stop. Ran into 05 at the game wearing his black "The Lou" jersey. There were lost of Billiken fans in attendance. If the Billiken fans were not there, the arena would have been about half full. A junior high basketball team was taking up about three rows right behind us. We had them cheering for the Billikens after too long

I think it should be a rule that a team that has already announced that they are leaving the conference (UMass) should lose all tiebreakers.
-
I think he is the most accurate because he wisely picks and chooses the right times to take his shots. If they forced him to take more, I believe his accuracy would go down.

I think Calipari's failings at Arkansas are highlighting the new way of things for coaches in NCAA basketball and football. It's not so much whether you can recruit anymore. It has everything now to do with a combination of your coaching skills and your NIL fund.

Jordan Goodwin signs 2 way contract with Lakers

Even if you only get a few games in the NBA, it means you were a really good basketball player. This kid's problem is not that he is not a good player, it is that his father is one of the all-time greats. Whenever that happens, people expect their kids to be the same and they never are. It's not their fault. If he can do well enough that he sticks in the league for 3 to 5 seasons, he will have accomplished about as much as can be "reasonably" expected of him. -
My crew is getting off the EL right now. 12 of us in Billiken Hawaiian shirts. Watch for at the game.

ESPN: Schertz a possible IU Coaching candidate
cgeldmacher replied to Lando Griffin's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
The only way I see something like this happening is if the Indiana decision makers go all in on the idea that you don't need coaches that have a talent for recruiting anymore, but instead just want a coach that is great at developing players, preparation, and x's and o's. If they truly have the largest NIL fund and if Schertz is truly a top notch coach, it could be a good match if they are willing to put up with the bad press of not making a splash hire. -
News .... Billiken High School Commits

Interesting that Laczkowski is/was a standout tennis player. I figure that gave Schertz a bit of an edge on him with his tennis background. -
If I were Chris May and the BoT, I would call the Big East and tell them that if they add us, we will only make the Big East pay us the current financial payout we are getting from the A-10 until the Big East renegotiates a TV deal or gets a new one. Once that happens, we move to an equal share with everyone else in the league. If we don't get into the Big East, we'll be getting that A-10 money anyway. Better to give them incentive to put us in and take the bigger payout later, especially if what Pitino is saying is correct and expanding the Big East will result in a better TV deal down the road.
-
I don't know if that requires a line-up change. Probably just a strategy/scheme change.

That mascot story is in the top ten, along with, of course, the Billiken.

When I last looked the SEC had 7 teams in the top 15

I'd rather see both of them get more time and a little bit more rest time for Robbie. I don't say this because I'm upset at his recent performances. Everyone has bad games, and we know what Robbie can do. I say this, because I think if Robbie knows he's going to get a little bit more rest every game, he may be able to amp up his effort knowing that he doesn't have to conserve as much.

Would VCU win a tiebreaker with us if we both went 14-4? We would be even head to head. I'm not sure what the next tiebreaker is.
-
I agree, but the discussion was which is more likely to happen; a conference championship or winning the A-10 tournament and going to the dance. I think we have a better chance at a conference championship. I'd love both, but winning the conference seems more likely to me.
-
That's an interesting thought. What do we have a better chance at, winning three straight in the A-10 tournament against the best teams in the A-10 or being regular season champs? We're one game back of VCU and there is no head to head advantage for a tiebreaker with them. We have to play GM at home. I am assuming we beat them just for purposes of setting the stage for this scenario. If we beat them, we have the tiebreaker on GM which essentially means we would be a half game back of them. Looking at the schedules, VCU still has Dayton twice and a game against GM that one of them will have to lose. GM's schedule seems pretty light the rest of the way. Our schedule is pretty light other than the GM game and on the road at Dayton. If we beat GM in our game against them, lose to Dayton and win the rest, we go 14-4 in the conference. If we beat, GM and they also lose to VCU, then they will also go 14-4 in the conference, but we would have the tie-breaker on them. If we beat GM and VCU also beats GM, then the question is what does VCU do in their two games with Dayton. If they split, with Dayton and win the rest, they also go 14-4. I would certainly rather win the A-10 tournament and go to the big dance rather than with the A-10 regular season, but if you had to ask me which is more likely, I think I would say us winning the regular season, because that only requires is to win one more game against a top A-10 team rather than 2. Also, with our short bench, we may be at a disadvantage in a three games in three days situation.

Totally agree, Nick. I was about to post something similar. We often say its hard to be a Billiken fan. Games like this one and the Hargrove game last year are the reasons why we love being Billiken fans. Those games remind us of the pure energy and joy that the Billikens can provide us even if they don't meet our expectations every season. I knew that McCotry had a very nice game and very much contributed to the win, but seeing the highlights made me realize that this WAS his win. He had a nice game otherwise, other than some typical freshmen stuff. However, he made so many plays in the last two minutes (rebounds, steals, passes) that, had he not made any single one of the plays, we would not have won. He didn't hit the three, but he was responsible for getting Swope both of his chances at hitting that three. He didn't block the shot, but he took away UMass's under the basket option which allowed Anya to get the block. McCotry had three, let me repeat THREE, steals in the last 43 seconds of the game. He's got a long way to go, but my goodness that was a game by Mr. McCotry.
-
I disagree. If we aren't going to make the tournament this year, I want an A-10 regular season championship. If GM loses and then we beat them, we pass them in the standings on the tiebreaker.
-
Let’s not forget Hargrove scoring 11 points in something like 35 seconds at the end of the game Edit: just saw several other guys mentioned it
-
UMass gave us that one with terrible decision, making down the stretch.
