  1. Has Popovich called Kentucky recommending Ahearn yet? That's probably the best they can do over there, and honestly, we can give Ahearn a few years of experience at a smaller school before we hire him away when Schertz leaves us for the NBA.
  2. F*** it. How much would it take to get Hurley to leave UConn for us?
  3. UConn is the best team since...? At least the 2006-07 Florida squad, right?
  4. Sounds like something Putin would say
  5. Does anyone really think that May and Co. have a backup plan?
  6. I've heard that May told Kalish that he has to make the semifinals or better next year to keep the job. Word is that Ahearn is the top candidate to replace him.
  7. Ummm, how should I feel, given that I've never won one of these...?
  8. Hire Schertz now. Hire a more proven Ahearn in four years when Schertz leaves us for the Kentucky job (after leading our Billikens to the tournament three times in four years, including a Sweet 16 appearance).
  9. I'm honestly not as down on Ahearn as most others on the board. I see him as a high risk/high reward guy. He could be the kind of innovative mind who helps us adapt to the new age of basketball and college athletics in general, and possibly even help us get into the Big East (which I see as a necessity if we want to keep pace with the high rollers of college sports). Or he could be a total flop who keeps us in the bottom half of the A10 and destroys any chance of us taking this program to the next level, allowing us to be left in the dust when the big boys break away and form their own league. Personally, I'm just not sure that's worth the risk. Yes, Ahearn could take us to the next level, but he's not the *only* coach who could take us to the next level. And we can't afford another setback.
  10. I'd love Will Wade, but I agree with both sentiments (that he'll get bigger offers, and that he'll wait until next year). I'll say he's waiting for Indiana to (finally) dump Mike Woodson. Or maybe if Villanova moves on from Kyle Neptune.
  11. Any word on Pat Kelsey? He was a big name last year but haven't heard a thing about him at all this year. Charleston isn't as good this year as they were last year but he's still a heck of a coach. Not necessarily for us, but surely someone could be interested, right?
  12. Thanks. I'm a local high school teacher and a couple of my students are being recruited by SLU. Coach Hendrickson sounds like a great dude, both for the school and for his players.
  13. Very interested in SLU baseball, but haven't followed the team closely in years. Are we going to be any good this year?
  14. Anyone know if we have to purchase tickets for the Homecoming Game? If so, where/how do we do that? I don't see a link anywhere on the Homecoming Events page.
  15. Ford helped us climb out of a self-dug hole in 2019. Remember the expectations going into the season? Furthermore, in every year of Ford's tenure, we have been in a position where we had to win the A10 tourney in order to make the NCAA tournament. This includes years with a double-double machine/future NBA player, and several strong, highly-rated, local recruits. We have to expect better, right? Ford is not a bad coach. He's fine. He's a fantastic recruiter and he represents the program with class. He's also a classic underachiever, which dates back to his days at OK State. We have to decide what our expectations are for this program.
  16. Probably random and weird question: I'm putting together a sports/warmup song playlist (I'm a teacher and the PA announcer at a local high school and I've been put in charge of making a clean warmup playlist). When I went to the soccer game against LIU, I remember them playing a pretty cool song just before each half, but I can't for the life of me remember the title. Anyone know it? Thanks in advance!
  17. That month long-gap is during the Winter Olympics, so I wouldn't expect any additional games.
  18. Young fan here, but here are my favorites from my college years (I was extremely lucky to experience the Golden Age of Billiken basketball) Conklin Smash game vs. Washington Downing Xavier on Conklin's senior night to all but seal a tourney bid Beating Memphis in the tourney Losing to Michigan St in the next round. Even though it was a loss, the way we played against a top team was admirable. Probably the proudest I've ever felt after a loss. Destroying New Mexico on New Years Eve 2012 and watching Steve Alford get ejected Beating Butler at home in 2013 Beating Butler on at Hinkle in 2013 Clinching the A10 regular season title on Senior Day for Kwamain and Cody Beating VCU for the A10 tourney championship in 2013 Taking down VCU on ESPN in 2014 (a win that would vault us into the Top 10) Jordair's game-winner at UMass to end a losing streak and clinch the 2014 A10 title The NC State game. Enough said.
  19. Would we be more likely to get a game against Illinois than against Mizzou? Equally likely/unlikely?
  20. We destroyed Washington and witnessed the nastiest screen of all time (having trouble uploading the video). This is one of my favorite Billiken memories. I think this game really kicked off the three year "Golden Age."
  21. Also sticking with games I attended in person 1) Beating Butler at Hinkle: The few hundred Billiken fans there made more noise than the Butler fans. The energy on the bus ride home was unbelievable. 2) Storming the court against Butler at home: The crowd was deafening the entire night. I had jealously watched college kids storm the court for years, but actually getting to do it was way better than I could have imagined. 3) Washington game: the first big game of my freshman year. A big reason I chose SLU (apart from a great, faith-based education) was that I thought the basketball team would be great. This solidified those hopes and was the start of something special. 4) Hammering VCU at home (2013): HEEEEEEEYYYYYY, HEY SHAKA! WE WANNA KNOOOOOOW, WHERE DID HAVOC GO? 5) Cutting down the nets at home: Just an awesome moment to be able to watch that team celebrate the conference title in person.
  22. We actually have something exciting to talk about (something that gives us a little hope).
  23. Someone be sure to remind our athletic department about this.
  24. Speaking of great moments in Billiken basketball history, today marks two years since the Orlando Miracle against NC State.
