  1. Perhaps late, but last year in say February of 2011, I was walking through the Finish Line store at West County Mall and found two awesome SLU t-shirts on a table in the middle of the store, right between UCLA and Notre Dame shirts and amongst KU, Mizzery, UNC, Texas, Illinois, Florida, and Duke shirts. I bought both of them. They're awesome, much better than anything they have at the bookstore or the arena. Not sure if they are still there or not, but I was pleased to see us on a table with big name athletic schools.
  2. It may have something to do with our stylization of Saint rather than St. ....
  3. Decided to come out of the word work.... again. I haven't posted in two years because I lost my password and was too lazy to reset it, even though I read billikens.com almost every day. This past week was the greatest thing that could have happened to the University. I've wore a SLU shirt pretty much every weekend day I've gone on and have gotten so many random people to comment or say something to me lately. Previously every time I said that I went to Saint Louis University outside of the Midwest, I would then inevitably be asked, "where's that?" But now that's not so much the case. I mean, 6.5 million people fill out brackets on ESPN.com alone! For that reason alone, Majerus has been worth every cent as his marketing and exposure for the university is invaluable.
  4. Just found these videos after reading a CBS Bleacher Report article on 25 Mid-Major players to watch this year that named two players at Loyola Marymount in LA. These videos are great, silly marketing commercials to help boost tickets. I think they're great. This one looks as if it was made by some student media and is about changing the culture of student opinions of the program: Then these are a great ad campaign for ticket sales that all boast the slogan: "Be There For Them. And They'll be There for You." I think these are great and are what we need here at SLU. The LMU ads to me are just goofy enough to attract new fans and underline the fact that the program can't take itself too seriously, knowing that it will always be dominated by UCLA, USC, the Lakers, and WCC power Gonzaga. Turning our program into the dominant program we all want isnt just going to happen, probably wont for decades if ever. We're not going to be Mizzou. We should then just highlight the fact that SLU games are fun and underscore that something big is happening here, we just aren't "there" yet. To my fellow sludents, we should all do a better job at promoting the program from within to others here on campus. It's the only way to change things until we start to win more.
  5. Just be a baller like Keith the sludent from Cincinnati, who shot the ball in the goofiest free throw stance ever, then just straight up drained it during the Austin Peay game. Whatever you do, don't airball it or I will boo. If you make it, Brandi Chastain that celebration.
  6. I took away a lot from tonight's game, even if it was against weak competition. Here's what's on my mind: As for crappy player introductions, don't we normally dim the lights and have spot lights and excitement during the regular season? I think they didn't do it tonight because it was just an exhibition, I mean there weren't any timeout promotions or events either except a bad shot for cash. I think once the season starts next week the lights will be down. As for Guy announcing Dwayne Evans on Cardinal Stritch, well, I don't think those mistakes are going away. The Crowd- bigger than I was expecting. That being said 05, did we reaaaaaally need to yell at Cardinal Stritch's fans tonight? I mean, it was Cardinal Stritch, who seemed to have good, SLU connections. All their fans, who had to have been family members, were even rocking shirts that had the Billiken on them. We could have been better hosts. This was probably their "game of the year"; an opportunity to play at a nice D1 arena. KC- He was baller out of control tonight. BC- Was full out Donkey Conklin tonight! Maybe the number of points he put up tonight were an anomaly due to low competition, but I don't think that hustle and relentlessness will be controlled too much by regular season opponents. This will be his best year yet. PE- nobody has mentioned Paul enough tonight, he was excellent; he even had two blocks. During warm-ups he was draining 3's also, so maybe he can come off the bench and be productive this year. I liked his game tonight. RL- Great outside shot, but reminded me exactly of WR two years ago. He got pushed around far too easily. So he'll probably need a year to bulk up before he can start dominating. He's an exciting work in progress though DE- best of the freshman, he's what I hoped FJ would have been. CR- did not look his best tonight, but that being said I predict his high-top alone is going to win us at least 5 games. He better not cut it all season. Jett- wish he drove more, but he looked like in a few more games he'll be in control. MM- he's speedy. JB- I have had high hopes for him since I saw his stats and saw a video of him on some Toledo news outlet. This kid can ball and might surpass a lot of Kevin Lisch's marks. In warmups all I could think about was how great we'll be NEXT year, which is what I have been saying my entire time at SLU. He was playing "great defense" during shoot-arounds, seemed to be joking around and having fun with all his teammates, and appears to be fully developed. This kid will be lethal.
  7. The majority of the team has been showing up pretty much every day to ball at the rec. Also joining the team today were Danny Lisch and who I believe to have been papa, and former Notre Dame quarterback, Rusty Lisch. He had some moves out there.
  8. According to Jeff Goodman of Fox Sports Barnett's coming to SLU. http://twitter.com/goodmanonfox Using social media made me run to facebook and do some friendly stalking of Barnett who's current status reads "proud to be a member of the billiken family." So, bring it on 2012.
  9. That was awesome. Sign him up for the Fordham basketball team, they need that athleticism.
  10. very rough indeed. the turnovers were just sloppy though. where did you watch the game at txbilliken07?
  11. Estudie en Madrid durante este semestre pasado-- en el otono. Creo que era el mejor semestre durante mi tiempo a SLU. Amongst the only things I felt I missed out on while abroad were Thanksgiving and Billiken basketball. Billikens.com was a refuge for at least one of those things-- sadly the stuffing made on this forum isn't quite up to par. The only game I could gametrack through though was the Notre Dame game, which was frustrating and I thought at the time would be how the season went; however, I have been pleasantly surprised with how it has turned out. In my opinion, the key to our success is the progression of Cassity. I think having Cody in the lineup, creating a different threat really lets Kwamain and Kyle do their own things without much pressure. Willie is still a work in progress and if he become half the player that former St. Joe's Nivens or Xavier's Love are, we will be beastily. Seeing Reed and Conklin bang around with Notre Dame's Harrangody just made me whet my appetite about what they both come become. I also give a lot of credit to Coach Majerus-- the dude knows his X's and O's much better than anybody else in the A10 I'd say, except maybe Moser. I still don't know how Porter finds time to be an assistant coach, fight crime, and develop cures for strange diseases the way he does... what a machine.
  12. I just wanted to point out that I think it was Lunardi who when talking about Washington's win over Texas A&M said that it didn't count for much because it happened "last calendar year." If that was Lunardi, or even if he was swayed by it, then he can use the same logic for SLU. Last calendar year, ie all our bad loses to the Iowa and Missouri States, back in 2009 BCE (Before Cody Ellis), should not hold us back either. Our season has had two drastic halves to it. He should note that instead of only with Washington.
  13. I think the students will come out in droves for the Temple game. People were already looking past Duquesne tonight for that game. I bet the Billiken and his posse roam campus and get students riled up on Wednesday during the lunch hours, possibly with members of the band again. Did anybody walk down Laclede past Marchetti after the game and get the free SLU Pep band concert from the 5th story balconies? It was awesome. Students were clapping and yelling outside. Wednesday will be HUGE.
  14. Also of note about Xavier Coach Chris Mack: I was visiting my best friend from high school at Xavier the same weekend they trashed Dayton on ESPN. After the game Coach Mack showed up at Dana's which is Xavier's bar, a combination ofHumphrey's/Laclede's, where he was given a free pitcher of beer that he then chugged as the bar chanted "Miller Sucks!" as a slight to their former coach Sean Miller who left for more money at Arizona. Mack gained lots of respect from me for that. Not only for chugging a pitcher, but also just showing up to hang out with the rowdy students and fans. Also of note, the tipoff of that game was 10 am. So this was happening just after noon.
  15. The spinning, hypnotic pinwheel was very creative. Also, can we get some love for the crowd-surfing Billiken to start player introductions? Also, Pirahna, who says "hats off" any more?
  16. Blue Crew will never change it's name. But unofficial names are great, such as Slunatics. I am a HUGE fun of any and all SLU related puns. I've always been very proud to be a sludent here, and I think our sludent section is getting better and better as time goes on. Did you know that if you do something sneaky on this campus then you are a regular SLUdini? It's sort of like how our famous alumni Gene Kranz (Parks '54) while working as the head of NASA's Mission Control, helped so many slunar modules beat those Russians to the moon. But before he worked for NASA he was a Slieutenant in the Air Force. If this campus had more slunatics and sludini's running sloose around campus then slooner or later school spirit would be rampant-- just imagine all the hullabaslu that'd be happening in the 'Fetz. I hope the turnout for the X game is deja-slu from the Dayton game with the Blue Crew--making enough noise from here to Timbukslu. Alright... I'm done. Had to get that out of my system. Bring on Stamos-- +1 to the Jesse and the Rippers playing at the Pageant comment from above.
  17. This is spot on, fantastic. As for the overall topic, I can see some Hoosiers similarities. The last few years every time Kevin Lisch hit a three I'd yell out "Jimmy Chitwood!"
  18. Who was it who said earlier this week that ESPN's Andy Katz was going to be in attendance at today's game? If so, he already seems to be picking up what we're putting down, and if he saw this win in person, then I'd expect a mention or two on espn.com sometime this week probably before the Xavier game.
  19. Plus 8--That's pretty substantial for us. LaSalle falling so hard is understandable with their big 3 done for the year, but Dayton's fall can only be perceived as purely being overrated. That loss to Duquesne today was devastating for them. Now I'm thinking that only 3 teams make the NCAA (Temple, Xavier, Richmond) with a possible 4th when somebody outside those three takes the tourney in Atlantic City (SLU, Charlotte, Dayton).
  20. I have a suggestion for my fellow student section members-- I think the student section/Blue Crew need to just get random. The more random the better. For instance, the big heads, people in Chewbacca outfits, etc. If people are having fun in the student section, then more kids will want to come, regardless of the competition we play. The sombreros are an excellent touch and should probably be brought back and worn by a few students. I think we could brand SLU basketball as random, much like our mascot. What's a Billiken? Ridiculousness.
  21. Win or lose, pennies is going to be bumping after the game, but I'm really hoping for a win to make it pure insanity at Hump's. As for the overall topic of the thread, as mentioned, the casual sludent has been talking about the team a lot lately, so their interest has been piqued. It's amazing just what the few morsels of coverage ESPN gives us can do to this student body.
  22. Nice, you can find me. I'm the one in the blue. Also, the Baby Billiken cracks me up in this. Because from my point of view, every time it went out on the court it would end up distracting the Dayton huddle.
  23. Xavier Annex bottom floor, Digital Media Center. There are student workers and some staff down there that can help out. Because each picture is in color and consists of several sheets, each one costs a few bucks to finally print out, but nothing too staggering.
  24. What moves, what grace. He was a bit tamer at this year's Mardi Gras/Dayton game.
