  1. I heard the interview and while it is interesting subject matter, the author needs to polish his interview skills. Paraphrasing-- Author--If you saw the final moment of the game, it gives insight to the type of player LeBron is today. [pause] Slaten--How so? He just left it hanging there, begging for Slaten to ask the question. It will come with practice.
  2. Fordham holds about 3470, making it about two thirds full. Of course, when they make the big time, they plan to go to MSG, assuming MSG is still standing.
  3. For me to get on board, it would have to an soccer league, relegation type system. You can earn your way up and earn your way down. NCAA infractions put you down a tier or two. [Think Italian soccer a few years ago.] His concerns with 'marketable product' don't sit well with me. But then the marketplace demands these 'buy' games. Which is it?
  4. I would cut out the third and fourth 'words' of the second sentence. Just kidding.
  5. Didn't Bobby Knight do the same thing with Damon Bailey?
  6. Looking at it a slightly different way, women are the majority of college students these days. If you want men to come to your school, you have to have things that draw men, like big(ger) time football. 'Come for the football, stay for the classes!' I think that it is a disastrous long term strategy as this repetitive head trauma issue is not going away and pro football, without significant changes, will be looked upon just above MMA in 25 years or so. That will decrease football's popularity broadly. Of course, I could be wrong.
  7. If true, this is terrible. He won't see much playing time for a while as the Bills are stacked with guards. Is this guy going to be the version of one and done? I know you have to recruit over what you have, but is he that much better than ET, KC?
  8. An Andrew Gaze (Seton Hall '88-89 team) one and done is different than Jared Swopshire. JS has a college degree so the player cares about education enough to work to get a degree rather than putting himself out as gun for hire from the get-go. He is a true student athlete who happened to be an exemplary student somewhere else before coming to SLU.
  9. So did he or didn't he coach the backhand? I know none of the principals but I couldn't resist.
  10. As evidenced by the drubbing the Bills took at the hands of Duke a couple of years ago, a (huge) loss to highly rated team raises your RPI. I hope the Bills don't have to worry about that, but it never hurts.
  11. You know you are getting old when you remember Gottleib as a player (at OK St).
  12. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/16/sports/ncaabasketball/majerus-building-st-louis-billikens-for-the-long-haul.html?hpw a couple of blurbs-- “On a personal level, it’s nice,” Majerus said of his 12th N.C.A.A. tournament appearance. “I’m not just saying this, I’m more happy for the players. I’m glad to be back; I like the challenge. But it was more fun to see how happy they were.” Yet Majerus said he had no plans to retire. He said he had largely been healthy, adding that he planned to go body surfing in Hawaii and California after the season.
  13. is a site that matches bettors on the odds of winning. Billikens are an underdog on very, very light volume. The bet is only on who the winner is, not the spread, though that bet could be made, too. http://sports.betfair.com/?mi=105129815&ex=1&origin=LHMA Bills will still win, but it is what the money says.
  14. Assist Dickey 27-22, Dickies (if only they wore Dickies on top AND on bottom!!)
  15. For all of the talk of the Philadelphia teams having an advantage playing in Atlantic City, Temple and St. Joe's are taken down by teams from Olean and lower-seeded Amherst.. It's tournament ball, things happen.
  16. The previous year Mizzou was third which would hint at a severe drop-off, which would hint at a change in methodology. Don't have last year's list to verify.
  17. Per the 'notes' section (boy I wish I could cut and paste this) 'Local is defined as St. Louis, St. Charles, Lincoln, Warren Franklin, Washington and Jefferson counties and City of St. Louis in Missouri; and Jersey, Madison, Clinton, St. Clair, Calhoun, Macoupin, Bond and Monroe counties in Illinois.'

  19. Pistol, very cogent analysis, but it tells me that the BCS schools of the world who schedule cupcakes in November and hope to go .500 in the conference should get a similar fate. They don't. All schools/conferences are equal, but some are more equal than others.
