  1. For those watching on ChannelSurfing - Look at that huge crowd for a conference game
  2. Frankly I'm more interested in how well RM coaches these kids than how well he sells patio windows. But if PM is the co-coach (and one would presume a potential coach of the future) I don't see why he can't be out doing some of these things.
  3. I agree. It just makes the program out to be amateurish. If Moser is the co-coach, they should give him a show and just save RM the trouble if he doesn't want to do it. In fact I think its worth us making that suggestion to Mr. May.
  4. I understand what you are saying, I really do. But in fairness, if it was meant to be "off the record" there should be no need for the compliance officer to be present. I tried to keep the information I relayed to the most meaningful points and generally positive as that was the vibe. As the person who got this thread started I'd like to add that I did not get the impression that anything RM said to or about the players was meant or perceived negatively. He can be very honest and that is not for everyone. He praised all of the players from DY on up in one way or another. He specifically mentioned that CR had very nice grades in some tough classes. As for the CE comments, I agree that those were mainly meant to temper some of the unreasonable expectations that have developed around CE. This mirrors Moser's comments from the first Club meeting which were along the same lines. He's still a freshman and we shouldn't expect great play right away. So just sit back and enjoy watching the team grow.
  5. Well I didn't say that. But the foot-in-mouth award went to the ladies freshman forward who dropped that the women's motto is: "Know your role or shut you're hole."
  6. Chris May was first : -89-90 men's team will be honored on Saturday afternoon. Coach Grower is confirmed to attend. Bonner is on the fence. -The athletic department has hired a new marketing person. I didn't catch her name but she used to work for the Rams. He also said she would be working to increase student interest. -May didn't want to say much about the MSU incident but promised that it would never happen again. He seemed to blame the students primarily. Hopefully the new marketing person is proof they understand some of the burden is on the athletic dept. -Introduced new food service company http://www.ovationsfoodservices.com/ . I don't know if this was just for Loranzini's or the whole arena. -Pat Parris and Scott Highmark will be doing the TV for FSMW on Saturday. -Their goal is to get 6 women's games on TV next year. He'd previously stated the men's goal is 15-20 I believe. -Freshmen for both the men's and women's team were introduced. The girls took some questions. Rickma just talked about the guys. Majerus: -BC has been more than willing to help CE so far, even though CE will be stealing from his minutes. -Several times Rick kept on the players in attendance to keep eating. Said they all need to put on size, including JJ. -JR still has bad post-concussion symptoms. He can't read and can only really sit in a dark room. RM joked he couldn't find a shed to put him in like some other coaches. I think he also said that JR suffered a broken cheekbone on the play where he was hurt. -Confirmed FJ's torn meniscus. It will affect his hops. -Questioner commented that the Bills have three great shot blockers. RM chuckled at that. Said JS was good and CR could be. -Several times RM commented on "Jo(h)n's" greatly improved outside game. I couldn't tell if he meant JS or FJ. -They are close to finalizing a deal to play in an ESPN Cancun tournament next season over Christmas. -CE will play. -Thinks CE should have redshirted, won't be good this year, his head is shot from all that is happening. Said (exaggerating?) that CE didn't hit the rim during the first practice. But said CE will be good next year, he has no doubt in his talent. -Later, after the players left he said that CE was fleshy and out of shape, hasn't played since July, he thinks the weight loss was due to nerves and stress over getting cleared. -SLU hired attorney and filed lawsuit in CE's case. -CE took SAT/ACT 6 times, often traveling significant distances to do so. -CE and family hired tutor with their own money to get a passing score.
  7. If Cody redshirts it just becomes Christian Salecich night.
  8. I don't know if any of these station stream but: "Games can be heard on the flagship station for BGSU athletics, WFRO 99.1 FM. Games can also be heard on WIMA 1150 AM in Lima, WONW 1280 AM in Defiance, and in Cleveland on both WHKW 1220 AM and WHK 1420 AM"
  9. Would have been awesome if he could have caught a pass without fumbling it too.
  10. Turn left after the cow with the lazy eye and the limp.
  11. The video of Kevin's game-winner in Aussie-land is great though.
  12. Our SoSs and RPIs will drop just because we have to play Fordham
  13. I thought as Jesuits we could do whatever we want.....so long as we are sorry for it afterward.
  14. No doubt any at large mid-major teams will be forced to play each other in the first round. They are so scared of another George Mason. If any team other than the top 3 A-10 teams wins the conference tournament they will probably burst the bubble of the # 3 or 4 team.
  15. Do you mean 'high achieving nerd' like Bill Gates or 'high functioning nerd' like Tina Fey? If not for people dropping out of the pre-med program I think I would have been all alone at Cook. I thinks its a right-of-passage for marketing majors. As for having the "pulse" of the students, I'm a fairly recent grad so I doubt it turned into the Nerd U since I left.
  16. Since some of the team in the A10 have some bigs and others are heavily guard-centric I think our lineup will be case-by-case. I can see BC, CE, and WR on the floor all at once against teams with size. But I imagine the three would rotate through 2 spots against team with 4 and 5 guard sets.
  17. Conklin did NOT have a good game in my opinion. But keep two things in mind: 1) "Starting is for high school." - RM 2) A few of the coaches have said recently that BC is playing on a bad wheel.
  18. Don't worry there are only 8 of them, but I guess the policy hasn't changed.
  19. Great comment on TT's post-mortem "Thanks for being so nice to our students. Nice building you got there. That said, if your students travel to Springfield next year, I think we’ll be smart enough to put them somewhere near the rafters. 10-0. — AB " That about says it all.
  20. Its not so much that I want to excuse them. I just don't buy the "they didn't come because they are a bunch of geeks" concept.
  21. I think the key for current student and young alumni is for the program to position the games as an "in" social event. A lot of people on the board want to complain about the 70+ year old fan not yelling and screaming enough. But to me it is the lack of 20 and 30-something fans that is the real issue. There is a real gap in that part of the fan base and they are the fans who will really yell and get involved. If you look at the baseball Cardinals, one of the reasons (and no it is not the only reason) that they are one of the top drawing MLB franchises is that a Cardinal game is a social event. It is not just die hard fans and families with kids at the games. You see girls night out groups, business schmoozing, and in general anyone who just wants to go out. You don't have to be a big baseball fan to want to go because it is "the thing" to do. You don't see that in some other cities for baseball and you certainly don't see that for SLU Bball. The University would never do it as it would be seen as promoting underage drinking, but since the games end so early (well early for a young 20-something) it would be easy to suggest to "make the Bills game, your pre-game". Maybe that's a better promotion for the Annex, Vito's etc.
  22. As your original point was that SLU students (and I presume you also mean alumni) are "nerdy" and don't like sports, it is valid to point out that attendance (which one must presume is largely alumni in the case of both basketball and soccer) is well above DI averages. If you would rather be a fan of a program full of student who eat-sleep-breath-and live sports 24/7 and have no other interest or academic validity - I suggest you'd be happier as a Michigan fan.
  23. Well the numbers in the press release were not wrong and SLU did lead the nation three times this decade so I have no need to withdraw anything. Ok they've fallen down to only being in the top 10-15. What a tragedy.
