Basically made the same point you are. He also pointed out that the increased number of charges called, leading to offensive fouls, is really hurting the game. Can't say that I disagree with him on that point (regardless of how good Cody is at taking charges.)

I've heard Bilas make that statement before and my reaction was the same then. If you just want to give up on the idea of charges and let the athletes do whatever they want, just watch the NBA and leave the rest of us alone.

Actually was he even fired from ISU? I thought he chose to leave. He's in a ten year contract at Creighton paying him $1mil a year.

Dehorn the Rams — GDT, 2/7/13, SLU at Fordham

Is he the only Bill with a rebound? Seems like it. -

With all the ridiculous attacks on SLU from evident Wheatshocker fans, perhaps a response or two is warranted just so there are no admissions by silence. Wichita State is irrelevant to the C7 discussions, but some Wichita State fans are spouting off anti-SLU information that is evidently being read on the East Coast.

Creighton is on the attack too- ridiculous.

Down in the Valley, the Valley so low.

I was just back in St. Louis, and witnessed the dominating victory over Butler and the blowout win over Dayton. It's advertising right in our backyard.

Given that the Valley is headquartered in St Louis I prefer to think of it as, "We own the Valley."

BTW: for those that missed it today Andy Katz is back to saying that the C7 may only add 3 and that Georgetown is pushing for Richmond.

<blockquote class='ipsBlockquote'data-author="kappy96" data-cid="340481" data-time="1360082816">
While not really a valid argument, there is little doubt that if the roles were reversed and the A-10 was looking to add 3-5 schools from the C7 you'd be hard pressed to convince me that Providence, Seton Hall and DePaul would be worth adding. It's just baffling to me the arrogance that some of those posters have about who is "worthy" of being added when the reality is only Georgetown, Marquette and Villanova (whos slipping) have any sort of a "brand name" right now.

Absent all other realignment activity, the A10 would add DePaul in a second if it could. It would be all about exposure to the Chicago media market. The same applies to the C7. On the court performance is very much secondary.

Two guys who didn't even want to play defense when they first got here.

VCU terrible down the stretch missing free throws and fouling Richmond on a 3. Richmond will be a challenge to beat in Richmond. But VCU is beatable.

The crowd was plenty loud during the instances you mention. It was the shots that Rhode Island hit in each time down the court that quieted the crowd down.

I'm more inclined to agree that the team failed to limit 3pt attempts, and allowed to many open three chances on scrambles. I wonder if RI's reputation as a severely flawed team, even Hurley says that, got in our guys heads. And clearly someone on the coaching staff screwed up when scouting Mumford. He got way to much space throughout the game. As for 3pt % made, Pomeroy has made a fairly strong arguement against focusing on that. http://kenpom.com/blog/index.php/weblog/defense_has_little_control_over_opponents_3p/

No surprise to see JB quoted in this article. The kid has taken some heat on this board, maybe because he was just talked up too much coming in. But I keep hearing story after story about how he's everything SLU wants their students to be.

Earl just retweeted this: http://ajerseyguy.com/?p=4719 "While the football half of what remains of the Big East was conducting meetings in Dallas, hoping to keep San Diego Stateand other nervous membersin the fold, the group of 7 Catholic schools were considering a proposal which would add existing football members Connecticut and Cincinnati into the group for all sports but football." Sounds worrisome but the same article also says this: "The plan would be then to increase the group to 12 with the addition of such schools as Butler, Xavier and Saint Louis the front runners." I can see UConn and Cincy getting a bit desperate given the state of the football BE and with ACC invites not coming as quickly as they hoped. But I don't know of I buy Cincy and Xavier wanting to be in the same league.

Stully kept a pro wrestling radio show on the air for years. So anything is possible.

<blockquote class='ipsBlockquote'data-author="slufanskip" data-cid="335092" data-time="1357658136">
I guess I have the opposite opinion on Rammer as most of you. I love him doing Billiken games. However, I can't stand him on talk radio. His I'm more objective than everyone else stance on every subject drives me nuts. Especially, when he generally isn't, he just feels that because it's his opinion, it's correct and more objective. I love Chris Duncan, don't mind DeMarco and am indifferent on Randy K.

The period last year after they moved Rammer out and during Randy's illness really showed how far D'Marco and Duncan have to go. Without a point guard The Fast Lane was absolutely terrible.

I'm pretty confident you are right. In his capacity as the Bills play-by-play voice he should be a University employee, not a station employee. He's broadcasted game on stations he wasn't working at before. It would mean less SLU talk during the day on 101 though. It would be too bad. I really enjoyed his show with Stully despite the crummy time slot. It is hard to compete with Frank C but I'd listen to Rammer over Zach M anyday.

Darren Rovell reporting that the Catholic 7 have an offer from the new Fox Sports 1 network (Speed) for 12 years that would pay the Catholic 7 $5 million a year and any additional teams "less than half that".

KenPom ranks them pretty darn high in defensive efficiency. But in offensive efficiency they are bottom 10 in the nation. Maybe something like 53-35

Crews gave his reasoning for this at the Billiken Club meeting back in early December. Basically the same answer he gave TT. Though he added that part of this thinking on this come from years of watching players (both his and others) putting forth lackluster efforts in going for the rebound in those situations. He said that he hasn't specifically instructed the players not to stand at the line. Just that's he's told them, "if you aren't going to go all out for that rebound I'd rather see you back in your defensive set." I've noticed that JB and JM will stay up sometimes, even when the rest of the team is back. This seems to happen when they are fresh off the bench. Seeing our guys get back and really frustrate teams like Memphis by shutting down fast-breaks and transitions the last few years, I kinda like the strategy. Memphis was so sure they could run us last year and I remember one of their players lamenting, "You'd look up and they'd all be back already. We couldn't get anything started."

I lime these idea though understand what people are saying about the median age of our fanbase and the general slowness to adapt to the times of the program. What I would do is set up a way that season ticket holders (especially the corporate don't-show-up-half-the-time types) could signal to the ticket office that they won't be using their tickets a given night. Give them a rebate, maybe 25%, for doing so. Then turn around and sell those tickets on-demand for say 50-60% of the original value. More money and more butts in the good seats. This would take some real work both business and technology-wise. But we have a sports business program in the business school along with IT and project management classes. These folks need real world experience in their studies. So why not utilize them?
-
Seats in that section are $25 per game as season tickets. Still maybe a bit high but unlike other sections there is no "gift" required.

RL I bet he can't wait for KM to get back

They basically split time against EIU. Loe had 19 min, Manning 17. It makes a lot of sense that we will see that continue until Loe gives Crews a reason to do things differently. Has anyone else noticed that this confidence thing isn't new for Loe? I felt last year that you could pretty much tell if Loe was going to have an ok game on whether it not he hit his first 3. -
SLU fans are getting evidence that we are not Duke. People on this board are overreacting and panicking. Roy is pontificating and people are yelling at him. Seems like the world is still spinning as usual to me.
