If thats true, tonight was a big money looser. Maybe they'll take away another charter next year to make up for it.
-
We don't seem to have the beating mentality. Once we get a lead and see we're obviously superior, we loose our sense of urgency, relax and let inferior teams creep back in. We play to the level of our competition. We've done it all year.
-
We paid to get out of CUSA??? I thought we were shown the door along with Charlotte because we were nonfootball schools.
-
The videos I've seen on Evans show strong offense and passive defense. I wouldn't count on him playing much early until he buys into RM's defense first philosphy.
-
Temple played hard, physical and tough, but they didn't play dirty. BC's not a thug and thats how he plays. We got beat by a team that played a little more consistently than we did. If we play them in the tourney we learn from this and win. Our toughest matchups in the tourney will be Richmond and X. Those would both be very tough games for us, but winnable. If we only have to face one of those two teams in the tourney, we could win it.

I agree, he ought to keep his mouth shut once the guy at the line gets the ball. We can all see who is shooting. He was still announcing when Kwamaine was starting his shot.
-
The last two games the ball movement has been great. It now looks like our offense has purpose and is creating opportunities.
-
willie can hit his jump from the free throw line, maybe he should try that. it would be entertaining and no less accurate.

I think 20 wins gets us in the NIT. They like to sell tickets. We're a good story. The youngest team in the nation, on the upswing and another Majerus success story. We've got a good story line you can sell and I think they'll consider that.

6 wins in a row, but we're not there yet...

The jury's not out. This is the most fun its been being a Billiken fan in 10 years. We've won 6 in a row and have the biggest game of the year at home on Wed. Let's enjoy it and make the place rock. -
I don't see it. Watch an NBA game. No way he can play in that league. Maybe if continues to develope he could sit on the end of the bench 4 or 5 years down the road. I think he can have a good 4 years at SLU and make a good living playing in Europe, but if he leaves early he's making a huge mistake.

Did they give them the points for the goal tend?

Would anyone care to explain the purpose of our offense? All I see is high screens set by our bigs for our guards. The result of these is usually jus a pass to another perimeter player who is neither open nor capable of taking his man off the dribble. It doesn't seem our personel is suited for this offense. I guess the hope is for quick ball reversal to create an opening, but our guys don't seem quick enough to get it done. I quess I could start a thread on our defense too. Why not switch to a zone when they're chewing up our man to man?

TT's Article in the Sunday Post

They don't come out when we play well. They're just sitting in the weeds, waiting to pounce. If you think these guys are idiots, read the comments following political and criminal stories. -
WR can't be thinking he's anywhere near NBA ready. He sees the game tapes. He hasn't been dominating since the easy part of our schedule.
-
I saw some footage of Evans and his shot is better than all of our bigs, except Ellis. Maybe he was on, but it looked good to me.
-
Why not make the radio show the coaches show and have Porter do it most of the time? Porter is always good on the radio. If he's not available one of the other coaches. We have 4 of them besides RM and I'd rather here their insights than RM ramble anyday.
-
I think its best to occasionally switch to a zone, just so you aren't so predictable. It also helps prevent the opposing offense from getting into a rythm. If you have it in your bag of tricks, you can pull it out to stop the penetration and take your chances on them hitting 3s.

It's not how WE take these losses
kmbilliken replied to adramos77's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
Our best 5 lately have been KM, KC, WR, JS & CE. He tried to have them in as much as possible and at cruch time. We're 3-2 in the conference and our two losses were on the road and in OT. If we hit another free throw in regulation in those games we're 5-0 and everyone is pumped up and jumping with joy. This team is coming together nicely and competing in every game. I'm pleased with their progress and with the progress of KC. The only player that has elevated his game more since the arrival of CE is JS. I don't see the need to panic. Did anyone think the game was over when we were up by 13 with 9 minutes to go? I didn't and neither did Bob or Earl. Yes, it sucks to blow a 13 point lead but we never had this one wrapped. My biggest problem with the game was we started playing the clock way too early. Hopefully this will be a learning experience for these guys to never take the foot off the accelerator with that much time left. -
This is the Spoon ice cream debacle at a much higher level. If you're spening a million a year on a coach, fork out another $100,000 to give hime what he says he needs to succeed. Otherwise you're shooting yourself in the foot. That's something SLU has always been good at.

This isn't a big enough spotlight for him. Its clear he could care less about the local media and local opinion. I listened to his one show with Bob Ramsey and his attitude sucked. He clearly couldn't be bothered with a local show and made no bones about it. Then to leave halfway through and put on the director of basketball operations as his standin was a slap in the face to Ramsey and the program. He's got four assistants that could have filled in. You don't need to be there, just phone in. He could do it, he just won't be bothered. I think he's a lonely man with a big ego and needs the national spotlight to fill his void. Now that he's had the job for 3 years he can see its not coming here. Sure he can build us into a top A10 contender and make the big dance every two or three years. To us that would be success, but thats not going to draw the big spotlight. This guy has an ego. He thinks he can turn DePaul into a top Big East team and he probably can. He can recruit Chicago and nationally. Look at the roster he's pieced together here selling a program with little tradition(no one else besides SLU fans think we have tradition), moderate local support, in a city that doesn't produce much top flight talent for its size and a middle of the road conference. Think of the players he could get selling Chicago, the Big East and a recognizable name like DePaul. He could get them to the top and the national spotlight would be back on him. When that's not on him the Chicago spotlight would be and thats a lot brighter spotlight than the one in St. Louis. If he brought them back he could be the toast of Chicago, which is a lot bigger than being the toast of St. Louis. He'd be living on the gold coast, not at the Chase. I think he wants the DePaul job. The question is, does DePaul want him?
-
I've got to think DePaul will take notice of this. Here's a guy from St. Louis who just stole a potential Chicago POY from under their noses and has no problem getting pub to promote his team on the the biggest radio station in town. Depaul is a team that could win big time if it could keep half the best players home. If I'm their AD I'd want to talk to him. The question is, will RM want to talk to them? I think he does. He's not stupid. He knows this will piss off Biondi and the local media, but he doesn't care. Maybe he got his buddy to give him a little air time to get DePaul to take notice and ask permission to talk to him? I didn't think he would want that job, but this makes me wonder. Its awfully coincidental.

Some Good Stats for a Young Team
kmbilliken replied to TheA_Bomb's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
Those attendance figures are bad. Only 3 teams average 6000 a game. Temple is less than 6000 when they're a top 25 team. Do most of these schools have small arenas or is it just lack of interest? -
This is the first promising season since IV's junior year when he came into his own and I thought he might lead us to tournament. The thing that impresses me most about our team is its tenacity. These road games will put that to the test and let us know if this is still a rebuilding year or these guys are going to the postseason. 3 out of 5 and would be great. 2 out of 5 would be disappointing, but not a killer.
