  1. Silver lining - it wasn't a big guy injury. Guard depth is solid.
  2. Completely agree. The low standards some folks have around here is baffling. I really like Harriman as an assistant. But the fact of the matter is that since he left SLU, he's never worked for a coach/program that has had any success. All of his other bosses got fired.
  3. Exactly my point. He got it all up front. He didn't have to worry about offsets for future jobs. There are tax reasons you take a lump sum as well. That is a fairly common practice in coach firings.
  4. Because he got paid it all up front with no offset? And got all bonuses due to him for the season where he was forced to resign?
  5. I'd need to see Tatum work his way up to SLU. Name the last successful first time head coach with zero college coaching experience? Most of the guys that have landed jobs like that are former NBA stars that also spent time coaching in the NBA.
  6. Rebuild means that something was built in the first place. That is the biggest issue. The current roster is 100% on the current coach so your gotcha question isn't really relevant. The real question is "What % of D1 coaches do we think could have built out a complete roster that has a better chance of making the NCAA tournament?"
  7. Theres a reason Mark Adams got a multi million dollar buyout from Texas Tech over this situation.
  8. Meh. Texas Tech guys are going to get them because Mark Adams was fired for being a "racist."
  9. Do agents have an awards night like actors where they sit and praise each others work? Contract of the year? Buyout of the year? Lifetime achievement?
  10. There should be a 30 for 30 on historically terrible contracts that were signed because LSU was looking for a head coach. Mel Tucker, Jimbo off the top of my head.
  11. Was talking to a coach last night who’s in a waiver appeal battle. They’re judging mental health appeals based on location. “Why is it better for his mental health that he’s ____ when home is ___” and there’s no rhyme or reason. Martinez who got cleared for Utah State transferred from Utah to Maryland when his dad was fired as assistant coach. Looks like they considered that part and didn’t count transfer 1 against him. As usual the NCAA is fuoked up.
  12. The coverup is always worse than the scandal.
  13. There is a human side to this. The larger boosters become friends with a coach or even admin a lot of times. It then becomes hard for them to separate the friendship from the performance. That is why you see boosters across the country drop on and off because of firings. They stick up for their friend while forgetting that the program is bigger than one person in one job.
  14. Good point. I do wonder about the internal dynamics. I've known coaches who intentionally go young/rebuild mode in an effort to save their job. "I started the x youngest roster in the conference" argument when they're selling their year. It creates a FOMO effect with weak leaders. "If we fire this guy, this all freshman team guy is going too!"
  15. No goalposts to be moved. Would you rather be at a top 15 program in the country with a plan for development, an all-american level center, and a coach with a proven history of getting teams to the big dance or a 100-150 program, with a coach on the hot seat, with apparently no other bigs to practice against, and no history of big guy development? Just the facts.
  16. Redshirts are 99% of the time a mutual agreement, so yes, he still does.
  17. A little dated but.. This is across all sports and I would assume that the number for football and basketball is a bit lower than this.
  18. This lines up as a perfect excuse for losing games. “Well compliance didn’t do their job so we lost x games without these guys!”
  19. You are 100% correct. The Zhang thing was/is a weird one with a lot of moving parts.
  20. For NIL money to be deductible at all you'd have to go at it one of two ways. Dude is in your commercial. You're paying a talent fee for that. It is advertising. It is a membership fee for some sort of social organization. Like a BNI type setup where you're meeting other business people for betterment of business. Donations to a collective are 0% deductible, won't be, and never should have been advertised as such. The NCAA and its member schools will lobby HARD against that because they don't want their collectives to be running the show.
  21. Maybe if Useless Frank knew what he was doing, they'd stop losing to the 2nd worst team in the NBA last year.
  22. How are you people in Evansville handling this?
