Agreed. I also don’t think having a very very localized/specialized recruiter is as valuable in this era of CBB, but that’s just me.
I don’t think his local connections are AS valuable as they were 8 years ago. Again if it’s the difference between keeping a shooter like Gibson for a year. Good, okay. But it’s not anything to get excited about, even just based on it’s a retention not an acquisition.

Come on, Zac. Give it a rest lol.
I mean you have a personal connection to Tate. Seems like you're letting your bias get in the way. Excuse me that I'm not excited to keep any coaching remnants from the worst season in my lifetime.

If this is to keep Jimerson, great. But it doesn’t really move the needle in any other way.

Yet, boosters keep paying it and increasing the level needed to compete. It is wild to me how quickly NIL spun out of control and how it is yet to truly slow down. I completely agree with you (and I think it will basically need to include formalized contracts for a level of transparency and protection), but am starting to wonder when that will actually happen! None of it makes any sense. Is your d!ck that small and ego so big that you need to pay a star basketball player a million dollars to play for your school? I am glad we have some folks willing to pay, but if there is a bigger waste of money, I am not sure what it would be.
It's going to be VERY interesting to see guys taking paycuts leaving college.

I've been pushing some form of this system for a while in conversations. Multi-year NIL deals with the schools, reinstate the two-time transfer rule (assuming it can pass legal muster), and tie a buy out to the NIL deals like they do for coaches. That way there's still a financial benefit to the school that develops a kid. Although, I think a system similar to the MLB/Japan posting system would be better. The "new" school would be required to pay a fee to the "old" school equal to a set percentage of the NIL deal that is signed at the new school. That way you're not requiring kids to buy out their own NIL deals with funds they may not have in order to transfer.
At this point, the whole model collapses. Title IX has to come into play?

Just signed up for Trilly's Discord. Trying to figure out WTF Discord is and how to navigate it has single handedly made me feel @billiken_roy levels old...
We are so incredibly lucky Steve has made this website so easy to navigate and use!

Yeah but they're improving. Baby steps, improvement doesn't go from ineffective to completely functional organization quickly. Perhaps if they get enough donations they can hire a full time person but employees are expensive. What's the cheapest full time person they could hire? $50k/year? Maybe. How good is someone making that much money?
Did you get BVF email? That's an invitation. If not the X post is an invitation to Donors/ticket Holders. So as I read it you can go just send RSVP email with headcount.
I wouldn't be disheartened, send your email and go.
Are they improving? I see the same stuff from last year. The same cartoonish logo, the same uninspired half assed attempts at "fund raising". The lack of responsiveness, the lack of visibility. The only thing that's new is the website.

Private in that you must be a season ticket holder or donor.
Yeah it'd be great to get an email back but if they got the initial email they are invited to the private event.
Also the event was publicized on X to get more attendees seems like they'll be alright.
I don't think we can expect perfection from what's essentially a volunteer organization. The new website and this event are good steps.
This is the problem. It should have dedicated employees, and it does not. They are winging it.

Zyree had an offer from SLU per some websites. Was that from Ford? And thats good if Josh is on them, you have that confirmed?
Both were offered by old staff, but that doesn’t indicate consistent communication. I know Josh was recruiting them both at Indiana State. So there’s familiarity. I don’t know if he’s re-upped their offer with SLU.

Why are you comparing us to Indiana State? We were paying our coach more than they spent on their entire basketball program. We are not the same.
Our soon to be all-time leading scorer is going to start his SIXTH year in a row at SLU. He isn't playing for free. We kept the nation's leader in assists on our roster for four years - he wasn't playing for free either.
We won't keep everyone, but no one is keeping everyone. College sports are different now, but we're a lot higher on the totem pole (and spend like it) than some people are making it seem

Are we going to lose him with Tate gone? Anyone know whats going on with his recruitment. 3 star or not it would be good to have him on board.
Neither Zyree nor Walsh had any contact from Tate this past season. Tate leaving won't be the reason Zyree doesn't come here. Schertz has been recruiting both as I understand it.

I think the reference was to handling the press. Majerus proved that you don't need an elite ball handler to break the press. He beat it with proper positioning and passing. When Majerus's guys executed his system to break the press, the ball didn't hit the floor until it was comfortably in our possession in the other team's half court.
This and pushing the ball up the court. I can’t stand watching the rebounding player look around for the “point guard”. All the guards should be outlets up the court and be able to advance the ball. Schertz teams play fast and don’t rely on a single ball handler to initiate sets.

I could see Larry Hughes being the back-up PG. Did a decent job spelling Yuri in 22-23 and in Schertz's offense, the distributive aspect of the PG role isn't as important.
There are no positions.

Not to put too much stock into social media, but Walsh definitely seems interested in SLU based on Twitter. And I believe Schertz recruited him at ISU. He and the Smajcic (sp?) kid at Vianney seem like good fits for Schertz’s system.
Walsh wants to be a Billiken. FULL STOP.

I think maybe when Carteare Gordon committed the fever pitch around here was at a similar level. We had Goodwin and French coming in, along with some really good (seeming) transfers. Never panned out unfortunately
I think most of the excitement is centered around the idea that we've watched exactly what we're getting and that we're getting a few of the players from that team we watched. Even if we had gotten an up and coming coach and not a retread like Ford we still would likely have a year or two full rebuild.

The current Billiken is a woman who can actually break it down really well, funnily enough.
Call me old man who yells at cloud or put me on Board Geniuses, but I'm not a HUGE fan of the diva Billiken dance moves. I don't mind the Billiken getting down but I guess I prefer my Billiken gender neutral.

-I hope all of you who are so happy about GibJim returning understand the game will be different for him as there will be an actual offense, he won't be able to run the weave, there might actually be a proper screen or two set and he shouldn't have to run miles each game trying to get open - - how he reacts to these will be significant to the team's success
The tone of this post is really weird and I'm not sure what you're going for as a conclusion. You are talking about things that are all beneficial to him and will make the game miles easier but also sounds like you think these things are barriers to his success?

FWIW, on Frank’s radio show today, he was pretty confident Avila, Swope and Kent were coming. Plus, Turnbull and the 6’10 recruit from Canada. He also mentioned he thinks Jimerson is coming back and Schertz told him that his goal was to have a team of players 6’4”-6’10”.
That is interesting because it sounded from at least one source that Nitu was going to stay loyal to Graves, because he was the lead recruiter. I am confident in Turnbull.

It really seems to be the way things are going with up and coming coaches. Basketball nerds are being valued over the hot shot personalities.
