  1. Goat, MLB has the internet rights, so you have to subscribe to that service. KTRS will work the same way. Not the team or station's decision. I am not sure how other leagues work.
  2. for those attending tomorrow's game at Family Arena, pack a cooler for the wait to get out of the parking lot and enjoy your time in St Charles!!!!
  3. I would be interested in: -what they did well agaisnt XU -what XU did well against them comparative scores is a dnagerous game
  4. Cheese, my take on the "no to Grimes" scenario is he is not UB's type of player. Strike one and two are his lack of consistent effort. I picture Grimes and JJ in the same dog house. UB won't have it. Strike three, imo, is that he is not that good. But this may all be for nought anyway.
  5. I found this story about KU very interesting. It could be my memory is kaput, but I think I remember similar infractions from what I will call less high profile institutions being greated with much more severity by the NCAA. If my memory is correct about the double standard, could you do an expose on the NCAA's selective punishment against the big boys versus their other members? I think there is a double standard. Huge. Bonwich, I included you as I realize this is a sports story, but perhaps you could tackle it from the Food perspective if Sports is unwilling...assuming my memory is correct. KU also had a deal when Roy was there that could have merited a bigger hammer, but the details to me a sketchy right now. Think Pulitzer Prize and the glory in taking down the NCAA. Associated Press LAWRENCE, Kan. -- University of Kansas forward Darnell Jackson has been suspended for the first nine games of the season for NCAA violations involving impermissible benefits worth about $5,000 received from a booster, the university announced Tuesday night. The university said it reported the matter to the NCAA in June following an anonymous tip, rendering Jackson ineligible from competition but not practice. It said it got word Tuesday that the NCAA Reinstatement staff had restored Jackson's eligibility providing he sit out the nine games, starting with Friday's season opener against Idaho State. Jackson, a 6-foot-8 sophomore forward, averaged two points a game last season. He sat out the first exhibition game this year but the NCAA allowed him to play in the second on Monday night, and he had eight points and seven rebounds in the 73-47 victory over Pittsburg State. The violations involved benefits that Jackson and his family received between the fall of 2002 and April 2005 from Don Davis, a University of Kansas graduate who lives in Oklahoma City. The university said the benefits included transportation, meals and lodging, gifts and a personal loan. Jackson, who will be allowed to practice but not travel with the team during his suspension, is required to repay the full value of the benefits. He'll be eligible to play again when the Jayhawks meet Northern Colorado on Dec. 22. Jackson was a junior in high school in Oklahoma City when he met Davis. Davis said he took an interest in the young player after seeing a United Way video featuring him as someone who had overcome adversity. During Jackson's freshman season at Kansas, Davis drove his mother, Shawn, to games in Lawrence on a number of occasions, and those rides were among the secondary violations that the university reported to the NCAA. "Mr. Davis has been a friend of my family, a mentor and a positive influence in my life," Jackson said in a statement issued by the university. "I didn't realize at the time that certain aspects of our friendship violated NCAA rules. I understand that now, and I regret any embarrassment to my family, my university and Mr. Davis." "This is a trying time in my life," Jackson said. "I accept this decision and look forward to competing again for KU basketball." "In my opinion, Darnell Jackson and his family are as fine of people as you'll ever meet," Davis said when The Kansas City Star reached him by telephone. "That's all I can really say." In a statement issued by the university, Davis said he was uncertain whether his conduct involving Jackson violated any NCAA rules, and that he was wrong in not contacting the university or the NCAA for a determination. "As a result of my actions, I have been disassociated from the university," Davis said. "I have no ill-will toward the University of Kansas, for which I have always had and will continue to have a great affection and respect." When The Star asked him for further information on his relationship with Jackson and specifics on the benefits he provided, Davis said: "The press release is what it is. It's going to look how it's going to look. That's really all I can say." Kansas coach Bill Self and athletics director Lew Perkins both said they thought the punishment was fair. "We're disappointed that we have to deal with this situation," Self said in a statement. "Although inappropriate by NCAA rules, I believe that Mr. Davis' intentions were sincere and were intended to be in the best interests of Darnell and his family." "We believe the NCAA acted very fairly and in a timely manner," Perkins said in a statement. "We are committed to following the letter and spirit of NCAA rules. We look forward to putting this behind us." Last summer Perkins announced several secondary NCAA violations in the athletics department and imposed sanctions on football and women's basketball, which had scholarships reduced. That matter is under review by the NCAA, which will determine whether the university's self-imposed sanctions are enough.
  6. cheese said "I would not mind taking a flyer on Grimes but I would have to be absolutely certain that he was motivated - if not then no."...so the answer then is no, correct???? b/c no one, Grimes included, can prove that he is motivated. WHEN he plays, he is great 3 feet and in from the goal playing against people smaller than him. that is what I observed. We don't need the headache. Interesting take on QS staying in Columbia to help SLU, that is a thought provoker. I can't say I disagree.
  7. they sold THE plane??? the university only has one such plane??? what do they teach with at Parks?? this is not good, not good at all
  8. I did not hear the show about private school recruiting methods...my question is why was the discussion limited to private schools???
  9. do they get tax $$$?? What a cluster that org is, imo.
  10. 72, you having a conversation with yourself?? Glad to see I am not the only one that does that!!! If you are 6'10" can walk and chew gum at the same time, why would you be playing at Maryville? Not a shot at them by any means, but a thought on the value and scarcity of big men. Just a thought.
  11. Thank You Cheese for saying that to Broy (esp so it did not have to be Phan saying it). His skin could not be any thinner on any KL subject without there being none at all.
  12. I wasn't there last night, seems if Ian's minutes were a bit low. Any light on this would be appreciated.
  13. and his third foul was just stupid, but hopefully a learning experience for all involved
  14. the only problem with your post is that someone may believe it. Well done
  15. I distinctly remember being at a hs game in which his son was playing, I was sitting across the court and Earl was sitting in the row in front of Slaten. Before the ball was tipped Slaten was going nuts. Play begins, he gets worse, the ref, the other team, the coach of his son's team, his son's team mates, all getting it. (Yes, I can see and hear this across the floor) Half time, he seems a bit calmer. Second half, midway through the 3rd quarter, he is screaming about something and a guy, probably about 50 yrs old and sitting a section toward center court and down about 4 rows, gets up and yells something back at Slaten. Slaten loses whatever he had left. His face goes completely scarlet and he starts climbing toward the guy. I think he would have inflicted serious harm. He has to climb over Earl to get to the guy, and Earl grabs him and he can't go. Not long after this, the Rockwood district restricted bans him from attending any events in the district. This being said, he is familiar with at least Earl, maybe friends. Although I would like Earl's assessment of the situation between the two of them I wouldn't lower myself to ask that. Slaten is something else, what I am not sure.
  16. Slaten doesn't like UB either as in his (Slaten's) opinion UB lied to the Slatens about offering a scholarship to the kid calls him (UB) a liar even if not true, you can NEVER change Slaten't mind on anything
  17. Vtime, where are the Sub North schools?????
  18. Have my eyes seen it, no. But someone who is in a position to know told me she is back and they are living together, at least that was the case last week.
  19. I have been told those rumors are nothing and were nothing more than that(rumors) and that somebody's wife is back in columbia, mo. So much for that attempt to save his job.
  20. I don't care the subject, whatever Vahe Gregorian writes, I read. He is the class of that section, imo. the other side of the ledger, way too many to name here
  21. to mention Grimes excellent range of 1 to 2 feet and the majority of his play like he has the heart of a mouse but he was in the Sub North so he must be good, Vtime told us
  22. that is cool, anyone know if there was ever a CUSA equivalent?
  23. Vtime, I am glad to see you have expanded your horizons past the V to now include the Suburban North. I can hardly wait for the post where you say SLU should offer the entire Ritenour team.
  24. but how many did the guy he was supposed to defend score? 0 rebounds?? although, remember the old adage, don't pick a fight with someone that buys ink by the barrel, not sure the sports talk radio equivalent, maybe don;t pick a fight with someone that controls the kill switch on the delay machine
  25. Broy, I appreciate your crusade. With no competition, at least in ST Charles, the PD has slipped from bad to worse imo as a newspaper. I'm not sure what the people there read (not including Bonwich) that would make them change. I have questioned Mr starks on one occasion and he did respond in a professional manner, so not sure on that front. the best ammo in the fight would be a winning team, I hope you get that. When we win and fill the Savvis, then I will campaign with you.
