Hartford lost to Bowie St at home in their exhibition game. This game should be one for our boys to gain a little confidence. I am not sure what the Wiz will offer up for a spread but I am hoping it is double digits.

That is an interesting take Brian. I do not see anything crazy happening like that. I think that these kids have been waiting their whole lives to compete at this level. So for your College Fball scenario...there will always be 4 teams ready to play for a championship. Would I really care if Clemson decided to fall on their sword bc they want compensation? Not really. Just insert Baylor in that spot and have the playoff carry on. Getting multiple teams to fall on their sword would never happen. The kids came to the university to play a sport...not change the system. As far as Mizzou goes...these power struggles are very interesting to watch play out. I saw the list of demands from the student group and one of them is to, "have the university president resign and in his speech he must admit that he has white priviledge". (or something to that effect). There are several parallels to the events at SLU of the past year. For some reason, I dont predict SPUMAC will navigate the waters as well as SLU did.

Blasphemy. The only way that this line of thinking proves somewhat true is that the current players learned how to play suffocating defense over the summer. Roby is the only one to even show a flash of a defensive bone in his body. Bartley, Gillman and Malik were potentially the worst defensive players I've ever seen in a Bills jersey. I cannot even remember one time last season where I saw one of these 3 players show that they even had interest in playing defense. This, compounded with Crews lack of coach-up ability, added to the the glaringly negative reports from the open practices, cannot let me fall into this line of thinking. And believe me, I am grasping at trying to find a positive outlook on this season. This only thing that will do it is if they magically, (and I mean like transform into the Monstars) come out as a different team. It just cant be as bad as everything thinks its going to be...can it?

DocB, you normally provide a practice report or 2 before the season. I am curious what leads you to the low expectations.

The success of this season will indicate to recruits whether we are coming back to respectability or heading to the doldrums for the next 5-6 years. Right now, I give about a 15% chance that the former happens. If we lose 20 games, there is no reason for players of Goodwin's ilk to feel excitement to come play in midtown.

I always thought that Platt to be the most awkward lead recruiter in Division 1. Just look at his Wikipedia…what is he even done that gives him so much trust from Crews. I do not understand it. The Tatum thing makes my stomach turn. Just reading this board, man there is just no optimism at all. That article that Stu wrote is definitely on point…no one expects anything at all this year. The problem is that no one expects anything for the next 3 either. I cannot believe this is what Chris May had in mind.

I think that on paper Ash should be this team's Kwamain, Jordair, etc. The tough thing is that he was also supposed to be the man last year. He turned out to be legitimately terrible with his bricks, turnovers etc. The article does not give a reason why he didnt play major minutes in the Bahamas. That was really the only item of substance I would have been interested in. I do not know how many Billikens have looked that bad their Junior year and then turned out to be a pleasant surprise when they were a Senior. Just add Ash's effectiveness to the laundry list of unknowns this upcoming season. Crews really is doing it "his way". When he doesnt play his most talented player in the Bahamas he is definitely out of the box. We will see if he is a clown like we all think, or we will all need to ingest a Costco-sized portion of crow. Time will tell...

The ceiling? ouch. The players sure should be able to use the "no one believes in us" battle cry in the locker room. Man, I hope they come out ready. Still running my Monte Carlo simulation over here...I will be back to you shortly

I am sorry, but Jim platt being our recruiting "lead" is absolutely comical. I hope May sees all of this going on. This kid has an offer from Michigan state...he ain't coming here.

If we win 18 games I will be chugging kool-aid and basically picket for a bronze statue of Crews outside Chaifetz. That would be 18 wins with the core group as sophomores and we should be preseason top 2 in the A-10 for the next 2 year. That aint happening though...

Soderberg isnt the one these recruits are signing up to play for. Tony Bennett has been crushing recruiting long before UB came on board. The UVA program is a really easy sell right now.

As an independant observer, I would like to propose a change to this. I think it needs to be off of overall point differential on this season. Playing uptempo and losing a whole bunch of games 79-64 shouldnt win you the bet.

The major difference is that RM's track record showed that he was probably the greatest player developer who ever lived and Crews has never shown any sign that he is even average in that department.
