  1. I agree with everything you said. If we have a chance of beating Dayton we have to come out strong in the first half which we haven't done this year. We can't have a 20 point first half and expect to come from behind and catch up with Dayton.
  2. I would be shocked to see if SLU is a favorite on the road again all season long regardless of the opponent. We are just a different team away from home and we have been for many years. Who would have thought it could get worse than Kent State. Even back in the Spoonhour days when SLU was a very solid team we would win or at least play very tight games vs teams such as Cincinnati, Marquette, etc but on the road in the same season we would lose by 20 or more. This is one trend I hope Majerus is able to reverse during his tenure at SLU.
  3. That is a good point. However with only one more year of eligibility he will be playing next to a true freshman number 5 next year. No question Brett will be 5000 times better as a freshman than Husak is now but he will definitely have a huge learning curve.
  4. The sad part is that the SLU student section gets that on a good day while at least when GW got it the students were not back yet from their holiday break. Plus unlike SLU, GW is not a huge commuter school as most of the students there are from outside the Washington DC area. I have seen as little as 5 in the student section at SLU which is downright embarrassing.
  5. For any SLU fan who was at the game they noticed immediately following the game the address announcer said times that this is the lowest scoring opponent ever to come into the Smith Center and repeated that 2 more times while the SLU players and coaches were still leaving the floor. While it was an embarrassing performance, this was a completely classless move on GW's part. I have no issues with radio or TV announcers saying it but don't announce it when the team could hear. I just wrote an e-mail to the GW athletic department stating that it was unfortunate that they decided to take the classless route by announcing this and if they had any class at all they would issue some kind of an apology. I will let the Board know if I hear back from anybody from GW.
  6. I personally do not know how a D-1 team could play any worse and agree this will be the worst game Billiken fans will remember for a long time. Like you I still have faith Majerus will turn us around into a very solid program. Who would have thought it could get worse than the Kent State game.
  7. There is little of the above I can disagree with but here's a few of my thoughts. I personally didn't see anything from Anthony tonight and don't see him in SLU's future but I could be wrong. I definitely do not think Majerus will bail. These are not his recruits so just wait until he gets his guys in here. I don't expect them to be the Fab 5 as freshmen but I think he will have a very solid team in a couple of years. AK's playing time proved that he is a downright joke and definitely needs to go. All SLU fans need to thank Soderberg for bringing in such a waste of talent. I still don't see BE's talent on the offensive end of the floor but I hope you are right that he can be somewhat solid next season.
  8. Here are a few of my thoughts from my 4th row of the stands in tonight's game: 1. Of course 20 points is downright embarassing even for a bad high school team but was more embarrassing was how our players handled the ball. Eberhart looked downright awful and didn't look like he belongs at this level of basketball. He has jello hands and puts the ball on the floor way too much under the basket and it gets immediately knocked away. He did look better on the defensive end of the floor though. Plus they would never take open shots, it was like they were afraid to shoot and they would many times wait until the shot clock was under 5 before going for a shot which obviously leads to terrible scoring opportunities. 2. Even though he was our "leading scorer" even though that should be an oxy-moron tonight, Husak is downright awful. He has no floor presence and does not move under the basket. Plus by looking at him you would think that he was taught that taking your feet off the floor is a foul because he is so flat footed. 3. I agree with moytoy that Ian is sorely missed. He would attract double teams which left Lisch and Liddell with open shots. Husak draws no pressure because other teams know he cannot do anything so they focus their time on Lisch, Liddell, etc. If people look back at Majerus' great teams at Utah, lots of the offense revolved around the center and there is nothing that can be built around Bryce. We'll see if it can be built around Brett in the coming seasons. 4. Overall I am a huge Majerus fan and still believe he will have SLU become a great team over the next few years. With that being said of course I am a little disappointed with the coaching. For example during his opening press conference on April 30th he said he looks at a player's strengths and gets them in a position to do what they can do and not what they can't do. If that's the case I don't see it. It seems to me like he is just putting his system in place even though he doesn't have the players right now for it to be any kind of success. 5. Paul looked terrible. He shot 2 awful airballs and did not handle the ball well when he was in control. He does seem to have as much heart as anybody on the team except maybe Meyer. I hope when SLU is good in a few years I can look back at this game and laugh and say I was at the lowest scoring SLU game ever. For now I will just remain speechless about this embarassing performance.
  9. Here is a link to the FoxSports website which lists all those players mentioned on the report. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7560544...P&GT1=10734
  10. Billiken-roy - anything in particular in which he was negative about or just the overall results thus far?
  11. Given how our offense has played the past few games I don't have confidence we will score over 70 points. I have noticed improved defense so we will pull it out with my predicted score of: SLU 63 Sam Houston State 57
  12. this is exactly what SShoe is getting at - many expect the majerus magic ot be overnight whereas it is not an overnight process to change the basketball program of a school which hasn't been to the NCAA tournament since the year 2000 - for all those who have patience success will come and a few years down the road we won't care as much about the 07-08 season if we have a more successful program
  13. Amen SShoe. I couldn't have said it any better myself. Well done.
  14. For all those who are frustrated with this season (and yes it isn't as good as I expected either), I think Bob Ryan in the article summed everything up beautifully in the last paragraph. He said "With all due respect to Brad Soderberg, you haven't been hearing a whole lot about Saint Louis University basketball outside of St. Louis the past few years. That will change. Wherever Rick Majerus goes, wins soon follow." All Billiken fans have bright things to look forward to in the coming years.
  15. I am a SLU alum living back East and whenever I am in town I always attend SLU games and always travel to see SLU games whenever possible and I was in town this past weekend for the holidays. The crowd on Saturday was the most pathetic I have possibly ever seen. I was in section 119 and there was almost nobody in my section with the exception of a couple there with their newborn twins and they hardly ever clapped or anything. It was just dead in there and it was close to an embarrassment in my opinion. If I were in Majerus' shoes I would be wondering if my team had any support besides the few die hard fans who populate this website. I thought just bringing in a top name coach would at least make the lower bowl in Scottrade fairly crowded but that hasn't happened. It is possible once football season and the A-10 conference games come about that this will start to happen and will be the norm. The future of SLU basketball with Majerus and the new recruting class (plus of course other good recruiting classes in the near future) is extremely exciting and bright and I bet once we move into the new arena SLU tickets will be a hot commodity and a very hard ticket to get. I just hope more people come out and support the Bills when they are in a transition phase than when they will start to be a top team in the next couple of years.
  16. I sure hope a local channel picks up the Missouri State game the night before Thanksgiving.
  17. I won't be going but does anybody know if that is one of the games that will be televised in the St. Louis area?
  18. 22-8 this includes 2 victories over Slugsignguy's Colonials
  19. I might make the trip up from DC to Pittsburgh for the Saturday and Sunday games. Also on another note, I am not sure if you are from the Pittsburgh area but at some point that weekend definitely hit up the Original Hot Dog Shop which is right around the Pitt campus. The best hot dogs and fries ever!!
  20. While we already know which A-10 teams we will be playing (and which ones we play twice), does anybody know when the actual league schedule is due to be released as to the actual dates we are playing each team?
  21. Been a fan since approximately 1992 or 1993. Then when I went to SLU starting in 1997 graduating in 2000 I became a huge fan. Didn't miss one home game my junior or senior years.
  22. I have 2 wishes after the Mississippi game. 1. Bryce Husak never plays again. I have never seen a player with worse hands and he just looks clueless out there defensively. Bryce is just a tall man with little to no basketball talent. It would make more sense to have Knollmeyer in there when giving Ian a rest to give him some more experience. 2. The A-10 starts to getting some good referees. There were 10 completely awful calls made in that game (8 against us and 2 against Ole Miss). I wish we could go back to having refs like Welmer, O'Neill, Burr, etc rather than these A-10 jokes.
  23. No he is not as good as Drejaj right now but if he gets some quality minutes like he did against St. Bonnie and GWU he can score some points. Also the more minutes he gets this year the better player he will be next year.
  24. How long has Joe Boccardi's Ristorante been there on Lindell?
  25. Regarding Roy's comments under #4, I believe that Cusumano said the coaches at first said to go for the steal. However I was at the game (it is nice to be able to see the Billikens out East here), and soon after GW started taking the ball up the court, both Agres Thorpe and Anthony Beane were out on the court in front of the bench giving the signal to foul immediately and that simply was not done. It took Ian (who I believe is the one in the best position) an additional 10 seconds to foul GW after I first saw the foul sign being given. I just thought I would add that since I saw it live last night.
