  1. I don't feel like it speeds up the game. Team is up 3 with the ball and 30 seconds left. They inbound and defense immediately tries to steal the ball while hacking. 3 seconds off the clock. Coach declines on the fts. We do another inbounds play and defense tries to steal the ball and hacks. Coach declines. Rinse wash and repeat until 10 such plays have occurred or a steal finally occurs. The only time the clock really runs in end-of-game scenarios is when the trailing team has the ball and is trying to get a shot off. At first glance I hated the idea partly because of the scenario above but also I could see defenses getting crazy aggressive trying to steal the ball because they thought the offense would decline on the fts. And that potential does exist, but at the end of the day its the offense's choice so I think if a good ft shooter is fouled they'll just take the fts and the declining would really only happen when guys like French are fouled. So I think I'm now in favor of it.
  2. This isn't really a logical lapse. This is a new rule that goes into effect next season. For this season, everyone is given a 1 time transfer due to COVID, even players that have already transferred before.
  3. Pretty sure this is in reference to the long-term changes to the transfer rules. This year everyone gets a free transfer without restrictions.
  4. Yes he did. 93-95. Was on tv all the time as 94 was the year the Knicks lost in the finals to Houston.
  5. That makes it hard for me to recruit Brock to my CYC 7th grade team for next year...
  6. There was zero chance of us making the NCAA tournament with a loss to Dayton in the semi-finals. Zero.
  7. Um no. An at large bid would have required a win over Dayton in the semi-finals of the A-10 tourney. As good as we were playing, that may have been a 20-30% likely event per Vegas. Not to mention the chance that we didn't win our first tourney game or that the committee still doesn't take us without winning the conference tourney. Its 20% at best.
  8. With a pretty full roster and everyone chomping for playing time, I'm now a pretty big proponent of leaving a scholarship unused and holding that for a mid-season transfer.
  9. Never doubt the recruiting prowess of Ford and Tate. Just awesome stuff.
  10. The third rule of transfer comparisons is you can't compare a player transferring up from a school like Oakland to SLU to players that transferred down like Villanova to SLU. So here are the rules as I see it: 1) Same race 2) Transfers only 3) Transfer up or transfer down 4) Same position 5) Similar statistics Once all those things are checked off, just start rattling off names and see if any of them fit the highlight videos of the person transferring in.
  11. It's interesting how potential transfers can only be compared to former transfers. Does Rashad Williams have nothing in common with former Billikens that started their careers here? Kind of like how white guys are only compared to other white guys, etc.
  12. What makes you think French may come back? I still think Goodwin is less than 50%, but it did go up today.
  13. I'm sure Jordan said it in jest about Ford wanting him. Also, going pro does not necessarily mean NBA. If an agent says I think you can sign in Europe and make six figures he'll be gone. This conversation with Frank is undoubtedly good news, but I'm no where near "sounds like he'll be back" stage.
  14. There aren't too many agents that will under-sell his pro potential....they don't get paid if he's still playing college ball.
  15. The reality is that most people think their opinions are the truth!
  16. McKissic Update: https://247sports.com/college/oregon-state/Article/UMKC-Grad-transfer-Brandon-McKissic-focusing-on-six-as-he-nears-a-decision-Florida-Kansas-Kansas-State-Missouri-Oregon-State-Saint-Louis-163190046/ He has a final 6 of SLU, Kansas, Mizzou, K-State, Oregon ST. and Florida
  17. With free agency hitting players, it'll be interesting to see how many players simply follow their coaches to their new destination. Don't know if that fits Ramey at all, but I bet its pretty common going forward.
  18. That sounds vaguely familiar. I think he was upset with how Haith was treated while there.
  19. Kimmie is probably a pretty good guy and I'm sure I'd be happy with him as my coach if I was GM. But he's still got a lot of Mizzou stink on him and I won't forget he basically told a local radio station that he/they thought of SLU as their little brother when asked a question about playing us. Payback will be fun.
  20. Regarding injury risk for players that come back vs. those that go pro...I think it all depends on what level pro you are playing at. The likelihood of injury should basically be considered the same whether you are playing professionally or in college. At one end of the spectrum you have 1st round NBA draft picks that have major, guaranteed contracts that can't be terminated if they get hurt playing. On the other end of the spectrum you have season by season, maybe even game by game, contracts in smaller European countries where you could get hurt and they'll cut you the next day (and maybe wouldn't even help pay your medical expenses). It's brutal on the lower-end of the pro spectrum. Goodwin would obviously be in the middle and that is for him and his family to figure out just where in the middle, but he's not going to be getting 3 year guaranteed salaries for $400k+ like Ratliffe. Getting a $40k scholarship plus NIL cash may be fairly compelling for him at this point.
  21. I took it to be that SLU has a lot of good players and playing time is not guaranteed.
  22. I'm no fan of Cuonzo/Mizzou, but he did take over a 10 win or so Kim Andersen team and take them to the NCAA tourney the next year when he was hired. He did it on the promise of playing with Michael Porter Jr., but it was still a major turn-around. This transfer market and available playing time is tailor made for him. Take McKissic. He may prefer Ford and SLU, but Cuonzo is going to rightly point out that Yuri is the starting PG, Gibson and Thatch are going to play a lot and Perkins is going to take most of the shots. Also, no chance Cuonzo gets fired after taking a team that was predicted 10th in the SEC into the NCAA tourney.
