Saw Dustin Maguire (Edwardsville) vs. ESL on Fri
cheeseman replied to pompeytir's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
DM and Stemler are not the same - Stemler is more like Izak O. He will have to play PF but would be able to still step out and shoot from the perimeter. Remember, Brad promised DM that he would not recruit another 3 in this class and that is why DM committed early. -
Yes but he was only one - I was commenting on what happened when the local duos came.

well never thought i'd hear that!

I heard part of the BM and CL interview. Something they talked about that was new to me was that they have a plan/program for raising the remaining $12million in the next 9 months. I also was glad to hear that BM wanted to have Father Biondi as a guest. I hope Biondi does not drop the ball on this one. This sounds like an olive branch and all Biondi has to do is call in for 5 minutes and BM will happy. If he ignors this then we go right back into the deep freeze. -
Last night on Brad's show (CL was on it) three important things were said about the arena: 1. Since the arena will only have one concourse, the need for a low sweep of seating like at Missouri will not be necessary. Obviously they will have to follow fire codes but it will be better than Savvis. 2. A parking garage will be built next to the arena for the VIP ticket holders. You get that status by the level you give to the Billiken Club. 3. Brad said he would have to be pulled kicking and screaming to play any home game any other place or than the new arena. He does not want to give away any homecourt advantage - period. Ramsey mentioned that perhaps if the pay out was big enough it might be considered and Brad said it would have to be on heck of a windfall. (I might have the sequence of who said what wrong but the jest is accurate)

The real question is - is everybody who went to that game so unimpressed with DM? The article in the PD today talked about DM's shooting skills so what is up with kid - is he worth our signing? -
Just got back from Joe Bocardi's and..

Where you choose to live is your biz - AF. Not everybody who goes to Missouri lives in West County. In fact, lots of West Co. people go to SLU. My point is calling everybody from an area punks is simply unfortunate. No different when people say if you are from South City you are a redneck or from Clayton a snob. -

He does not have to transfer - he can simply get on with his life like the rest of us do (did)when we graduate. -
The other big jump was when Spoon was here but you can easily see that when SLU has gotten the big time local recruits, the fans come out. Highmark and Clagget when Spoon was here and Gray and Douglass when Grawer were here. Truth be told, I am begining to think that 10k will be fine for the new arena.

Alumni - where do you live so I call you a punk. The real question about JJ is that does he even want to stay another year - if he is not going to get playing time he may not be happy and would simply move on. Not saying he has to but something to think about. -

Good points - sbone - that is why I asked. -
Don't get too excited - what Brad said was that they just singned a 2 year contract with SMS and we are playing at SIUC next year. He never said we were playing SIUC after next year. Could have been an oversight but needs to be checked out before you assume anything.

I seldom stay to watch the half time show so I did not see it. I usually go stand and talk out in the concourse. I think they could have announced the old players - someone needs to share this with CL so she can learn and maybe send an note to the players. Did they have a dinner together or something before the game? If our season tix base is 6k then I stand corrected - 10k is probably OK.

First of all, Roy's comment was about Timmerman not BM. Second, Roy thinks the article started out not positive, Foot thinks it was fine - opinions so both are right based on the lens they are looking through. Personally, I think TT could have started out with: For the last month, SLU has ended their games in the win column. Says the same thing but does not bring up what happened sometime ago. TT always puts something in his articles to take just a little shine off nothing drastic or earthshattering but he still does it. He may not even realize that he does it. It is kind of like the teacher who says to the kid who seldom turns in his work - Well this is the third time in row that you have had your homework you feeling OK? Now is this a negative comment or is it a kidding pat on the back. If you ask the teacher he/she would say what do you mean it was compliment - I recoginized he turned his work in - what do you want. To the kid it was why does he/she have to continue to harp on the problems I had turning work in before. Why can he/she just say nice job and move on. I would suggest that TT is the behaving like the teacher and Roy is behaving like the student. As I said, I would prefer to always err on the the side of the positive not that of the sort of back hand compliment.

I would imagine that there will not be any portable seating behind the goals as in the Savvis since it is being built as a basketball venue. Space behind the visitors bench will be high priced seats so that is out. I am not sure where to put you if being behind the goals in permanent seating is not appropriate. -
Arena financing and questions
cheeseman replied to Billikenbooster's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
Students buy the tickets at Missouri - what they do is sell it to them for a discount especially if you buy an all sport pass. Now that still meant that you had to enter a lottery for bb tix. You were assured of getting at least on 4 -5 game package and possibly more if you were drawn and based on those packages sold. 3 years ago the all season pass cost around $165 and did include football. -
Nark, no you misunderstood my question - my bad. What I was asking was: If there 8000 season tix holders and you set aside 1000 seats for students, then the 1000 remaining tix - will have to be used for visiting teams fans, players family, corporate sponsorship programs, etc. I really think that next year more season tix will be sold as well as the following year for those who will want to try to ensure they get tix in the new arena. I fear there will not be enough for all season tix holders by the time we move in it. Maybe this year holders.
-
Nark - your math does not compute - please explain more specifically.
-
Courtside - you are way off base about CL - she got the offices and practice facilities that everybody said was a must. So they had to cut back on the size - I am not happy about that but you have to take a big picture look - rememember the Stones song - " you don't always get what you want but you get what you need". This is what has happened here.
-
TT has an unconcerned interest in SLU. He is not capable of writing a completely positive article about the Bills. You have to give BM credit - he did write a positive article about the team and the arena.

At the risk of sounding positive - how it was announced was immaterial. People knew it was going to happen - was in the paper and on the airwaves already. So no big surprise. The details were easily available after the game and that is what we were all interested in. I do however agree that somebody could have come out and said - We have brought the billikens home! - nice touch but hardly the end of the world. Some of you have not really been behind this arena thing because you are afraid you will lose your primo tix or have to pay a PSL to keep them - that is understandable. I am not happy that - my guess only - the smaller arena will cause the price of tix to go up at least 1/3 but I will get over just like you will. So, CL hit a home run contary to some of you thinking she hit a double - Woolard never would have got us to this point. She got the practice courts and the offices all of which you said had to happen. I applaud her efforts and am happy for SLU. -
Vtime - The east side is part of the St. Louis region. I hope you are not simply saying you have to live and play in the City of St. Louis to be a St. Louis guy - that is just silly.
-
He was really bothered by the Temple press. Maybe he is a bit rusty with his guard skills since he has been playing forward but he sure had a tough time holding on to the ball at critical times and his shooting was dismal. Hopefully he learned from tonight.
-
The tix will just cost more - much more since there will be all those people shut out. New rules - get ready to play by them.

You better start saving - the scalpers won't be giving the tix away. -
Easy for Brad to say that he wants 10k - he won't have to pay the additional cost for a ticket. What still has me puzzled is if they give 1000 seats to students, sell 8000 season seats, than that only leaves 1000 seats for sale to the public assuming that more people next year do not try to buy season tix just to make sure they get in. It will be interesting to see how the work this out.
