  1. The Microwave is coming back...this is fantastic.
  2. @3star_recruit hit the nail on the head the other day by calling that UR would be going on a Covid pause soon. In the moment, I was considering several possibilities for the cancellation, but probably the most realistic was the idea that UR had a Covid issue that SLU recognized and left over, but UR felt that as long as they “met the protocols”, they should be entitled to play. It didn’t seem to matter to them that they could put SLU in another shutdown...they wanted to get the game in.
  3. I think the only way we find something out is if Richmond goes on a pause in the next few days. Otherwise I don’t expect to learn anything. Lets say that SLU’s medical team found something that was legitimately concerning involving UR, be it team or facility, to justify pulling the plug. UR just got named as a joint host of the A-10 tournament yesterday. If word gets out that the A-10 just awarded the tournament to a school with some protocol issues, a lot of people look bad over this...the A-10, UR. If there was an issue, the A-10 will tell them to get their stuff together and try to keep it quiet to save face. Or SLU will look like we dodged a game, or that we’re not willing to play unless teams meet out guidelines.
  4. I don’t claim to have all, or even most, of the answers involving Covid protocols. There may be a difference between acceptable protocols to likely play a basketball game safely and approved by the NCAA/Atlantic 10, and what truly amounts to “best practices”. As an example, with a few days of exceptions, I’ve been going in to the office every day since the beginning of June. I haven’t (knock on wood) gotten Covid, and it seems that any cases among other people at my employer did not involve any spread to others. I feel safe going into my workplace every day. When I mention this to other people though, I occasionally get horrified looks from them. Best practices may say to do whatever you can to work from home, but I’ve chosen to go in to work and be as cautious as possible by always wearing a mask when I leave my workspace, social distance, etc. My guess here is that either Richmond was doing what was necessary to play, but fell short of whatever “best practices” SLU is following, or there was a legitimate reason for SLU to be concerned that we will find out about soon.
  5. I think Goodman’s tweet was sarcasm, and not suggesting that NC State is looking for multiple games in St. Louis. NC State had 2-3 games cancelled due to their own Covid stoppage and then another when Louisville cancelled their first ACC game. They haven’t played in about 2-3 weeks. I think Goodman was just commenting that they may actually play a basketball game.
  6. How has nobody suggested the Adam Knollmeyer dunk over (to the side of) the trash can?
  7. I remember that one being borderline Vince Carter on Frederic Weis, just with the Bonnies player being shorter than Weis. I really wish there was video of that somewhere online, but I heard sometime not too long ago that no one knew of it existing.
  8. I’ve liked the grey uniforms in any iteration, but these were the best in my opinion.
  9. This season will be an interesting test of a theory I had about Dayton’s team last season. As good as Toppin was, I thought that Crutcher may have been more important to that team because Toppin had to be fed the ball. That’s not necessarily to say that Crutcher was clearly better that Goodwin or Fatts Russell. Regardless, how Dayton does with Crutcher and without Toppin will test my theory.
  10. That’s the stat I wondered about, but didn’t want to take the time to research.
  11. I haven’t seen anything official, but SLU had two different pictures of French on social media posts this morning. Could be SLU being clueless, but I’m thinking he’s playing.
  12. I want that Walz dude in Billiken blue for the sole reason of him being from Munich.
  13. Looks like he committed to Oklahoma, not OSU.
  14. Roy Schmidt. Not sure if he’s still around. I stopped following him on Twitter. Sad deal in a way; he used to be fairly good, but then he got Twitter and kind of went unhinged.
  15. This. Rivals seems to have a function where subscribers can make “predictions”. That’s just fans picking their favorite teams. The only ones worth looking at are the predictions from the recruiting analysts. There are none of those for Kern.
  16. So we have Brian Snow at 247 with the “Crystal Ball” prediction, and we also have this guy from Rivals who predicted SLU last night. https://n.rivals.com/content/forecaster_profiles/2383619 Maybe I’m forgetting, but I don’t think we’ve had a recruiting analyst predict us to land a recruit other than Carte’are Gordon, and that was done right before he committed. That combined with Frank C’s comments the other day make me think something is about to happen.
  17. STL has liked him since he was at SIUC. He seems to be a pretty nice, folksy, “aww shucks”, kind of guy, and STL people eat that stuff up. He’s basically a much more successful Barry Hinson.
  18. This is a good point. One of my reasons for generally preferring a Euro-Style name was that I haven’t been the biggest fan of the nicknames for many teams created in the last 25-30 years. Part of me wonders if my preference for many older team names is just due to the fact that I’m just used to them.
  19. St. Louis City SC/FC was right around the top of my list out of the names that were generally suggested. While I am going to roll my eyes at anyone from St. Louis County, St. Charles County, the Metro East, Jefferson County, etc who tries to claim that the team doesn’t represent them, I still didn’t think this name would be likely just because I thought they’d go safe and avoid that potential conflict. I’m a big fan of this name. My big soapbox with the name was that I was ok with a given nickname only if it was fairly simple and traditional. No names like Kraken or Battlehawks. Give me a “boring” European style name every time over a name that sounds cool and edgy in 2020, but has the chance to sound really dumb in 10 years.
  20. Exactly. And I expect that they’ll really hammer on it at the announcement.
  21. My guess is that they’ll spin it as a message that it doesn’t matter what counties or suburbs we live in, we are all one city. St. Louis.
