Price blew by Sloan a couple times and then he had to play off of him and let him get some good shots, they were not preyers, simple baseline jumpers. Price was a very good player though. Drejaj was able to play up on him and shut him down.

Blake Ahearn -- 13 points, 3 for 4 3 point shooting for the Bears last night against Western Illinois.

Izik probably had two sprained ankles. Izik -- Very dissapointing, he was very intimidated by their big man. He passed up a dozen shots and went way out of his way to get away from him. After he got blocked a couple times he froze when he got the ball trying to find the big man. He has the physical tools, but Izik needs to work on his mental game on both ends of the court. Has to improve his defense and show some intensity to get out of Brad's doghouse. Sloan -- Many times seemed to be the only Bill who wanted to play. Took over on defense at crunch time causing some loose balls at the end. Even so had trouble guarding their 3, he needs to be guarding the 4, he can't keep up with guys n the dribble. Was playing alot on the perimeter on offense too, his drives are not our best option on offense. Played very well inside on both ends, his rebounding is much better. Frericks -- Played tough, had some good offensive moves but has to finish more. Even had a couple blocks. He will be solid in the middle, he did appear winded though at times. Fisher -- Took care of the ball, was okay on defense. Still refuses to assert himself on the offensive end and always slows down the tempo, even though he does very well running the break and in transition. Drejaj -- Like Fisher a streaky shooter, had an offnight and will have a few more of those. Excellent defensively, shutdown Price in the second half. Ballhnalding looked good. Varner -- Nice effort, still if he is starting we are in big trouble. Never looks for a shot inside of 18 feet, gets in the way alot on the boards. Clarke -- Played good defense, and handled the ball well. Still has got to make some shots to contribute in a meaningfull way. Bryant -- Played sparingly, but made a nice jumper and was solid on D. Johnson -- Definetely an athlete. Very long arms on defense, and quick. Seemed to be trying on defense, but is not quite grapsing the system yet. He likes to stick his hand in instead of facing up on his defender (Izik does this as well), which infuriates Coach Soderberg. Had a nice jumper from the baseline. Hunt -- Played sparingly

Frericks has a much better offensive than Kenny ever had at this point. He appears to like physical contact and can board. His defense has yet to be tested. EA had no one with any post skills. Their big man was a human pogo stick but I think he would have a hard making any shot save for a dunk.
-
Frericks was very good on the offensive end for the most part. He has some very nice moves and backs his man down effectively. He did make one play early where he got a pass or a putback and appeared to be wide open and put up this pansy azz layup which the big man sent into the 10th row. He has got to take it strong, that should've been a dunkable play, he cannot afford to make a play like that ever.

I don't fault Drejaj. We played Hot potato with the ball for awhile. Izik wouldn't take a shot if the big guy was within 20 feet of him. Varner refuses to shoot inside of 18 feet no matter how open he is. Sloan is really never going to look for his shot and can't get one driving. Fisher should have tried to get his shot a little more. Drejaj had no choice, no one else would shoot several times SLU nearly passed the entire 24 second clock away turning down shot after shot.

>Was Varner a liability on the defensive end again? >Is it true Bryant didn't play much? If so, that might >account for the low offensive output. >Did the Billikens take care of the ball? 1. Varner was not a liability, but he does nothing well either. One problem if he is on the court at the 4, then sloan has to defend the 3 which it is pretty apparent he cannot do anymore. Price ate up Sloan. Varner continues to get in the way on rebounds, he jumped into Sloan early in the first half and knocked a ball out of bounds on a ball Sloan had control of, Sloan was very po'ed. If Izik cannot sack up or we do not have enough depth to go to a 3 guard attack and Varner plays heavy minutes at the 4, this team is in BIG trouble. 2. Bryant played very little, he hit one nice jumper. I think he needs to be on the court a few minutes to find a rythym on offense which is why he needs to start. He did play better defensively. 3. Only 10 TOs for the Bills, they did a decent job of protecting the ball but then again we ran the ball well early, but the last 30 minutes of the game we never took any chances with the ball. We should have kept running, so I think the TO numbers are a little deceptive as we played extra careful with the ball when we should have pushed a little more.

Stackhouse will be back within the next month or so. Hughes run may end there, as there will be 2 spots for 3 players. The Wiz would like to trade Stackhouse for inside help so maybe Larry has moved that thinking ahead with his excellent play.

Last time the game was on 1380 the Team not KFNS. I think it will be the same deal, the game starts and then is interrupted for Tiger Talk and after that it is back on again.

The Billikens are playing the East squad of the EA All Stars. This team won their first game over Va. Tech but has lost the rest of their games. Xavier beat them 100-63, L'Ville 90-78, Tenn 110-83, Cincy 92-75, Kentucky 94-61 and Old Dominion 106-65 (Ouch!!!). They played W Kent., OSU, and St. Johns all within 10 points though. Their roster looks like this -- 33 Monty Buckley F 6'6" California 21 Mike Chappell G-F 6'7" Michigan St. 15 Al Faux G 6'2" San Diego St. 22 Paul Shirley C 6'8" Iowa State 23 Ricky Price G-F 6'5" Duke 1 Kameron Sufi G 6'1" St. Mary’s 5 Greg Grays G 6'0" Detroit-Mercy 25 Matt Howser F 6'8" Chico State 55 Lonnie Jones C 7'0" Ball State 31 Jamar Brown F 6'9" So. Colorado I am not familiar with any of these players. I vaguely remember Ricky Price and he is touted on the EA site as this teams best player. Regardless this team looks like it has some nice size and will hopefully test us on the boards some. All the other teams had atleast a couple guys I remember seeing play. Johnnie Parker is on a team and Lucas Johnson is on another. Ed O'bannon (Top 10 NBA pick and Romar protege) is on a team, how far has he fallen? He has got to be pushing 30 too.

Nate would have nothing to do with this, he writes on HS sports. Stu I believe only covers Billiken Basketball. Tom Timmerman writes the stories on Billiken soccer. I thought I saw a small blurb about SLU women's soccer in today's post but I did not see anything about the men's team. I would say don't blame the writers for a story not being cvered, only blame them, if applicable, for things in their stories. Editors and other management at the p[ost are the ones who decide not to run any stories about SLU soccer being in the championship game.

Marque and the Dazzle will play Maryland in an exhibition game on Tuesday. A NBDL tema played Michigan last night and got beat badly 90-57. Marque's team looks alittle better than that one though. Marque's main competitor for playing time NBA vet Cory alexander has left the team to play overseas. It does not appear that there is another PG on Roanoke's roster.
-
If marquette like they did last night, SLU will be better than them. I think Diner alone in the backcourt will be outmatched by Fish and Drejaj guarding him. We obviously have an advantage on the inside.

Has Frank been given the reins for Channel 5s sports dept? Or is he just in charge of the Sports Plus now?

Earl was on Frankly Speaking for an hour and a half. They had Luke Meyer on the air along with Paul Paradowski and some kid from Ellsberry I think going to Eastern Illinois. Meyer seems like a good kid, he said he doesn't really know Liddell but Polk was all over him telling him to come to SLU with him. Would anybody like to give Lisch's phone # to Dwayne?

>In his first exhibition game at Wisconsin-Green Bay, former >Billiken signee Brandon Morris scored 25pts, had 5 assists >and 8 boards. Damn Damn Damn Damn

We better get Roy on this. We need Lisch to come here. -
It is always good to stroke Coach Irons.

Doug Woolard to be on KFNS at 4:30 (nm)
thetorch replied to Quality Is Job 1's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
Claiborne obviously has some beef with the SLU brass still smarting from his firing over ten years ago. Woolard should've told him off or just hung up the phone on him. Claiborne knows hockey pretty well and boxing but that is it. He is the laziest sports guy in the market. -
1 team, and all the guys play close to every game. The little fat guy is funny. What is he 5'9 220. He got heavy minutes a couple years ago but now appears to be some sort of player/coach.

Its great that 3 people got to hear the press conference with the mighty 5 watt signal of 1380 the team. I will have to get down to the new Busch center and stock up on Billiken Blue. It is getting to be holiday time, and there is nothing better than giving a SLU item to friends who are rabid tiger fans.

I might include LaSalle over Temple.

Has Charlotte set up a press conference for Monday?
thetorch replied to BLIKNS's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
SLU's is on Wednesday. -
Excellent points, SLU is not the Pentagon. Keeping local media in the know in regards to basketball to engender some support is not going to have huge adverse affects. I believe the thinking at SLU is if we are too open the media will attempt to bring us down, will always be looking for some sort of scandal that could have more of an adverse effect on a jesuit university than say a public one. So we keep them at arms length on everything while other schools treat collumnists and reporters like they work in the program. SLU treats everyone as outsiders. SLU has gotten pretty far with this policy but just froma pr standpoint if we want SLU to take the next step in popularity around town we will have to let some people in on some of SLU's "secrets."
