  1. Any updates on fund raising, naming rights, ground breaking? It seems things are moving slowly and that its completion may not be in time for the '05' season opener based on a 22 to 24 month construction period.
  2. Hope all goes well for him at the Cleveland Clinic. He is an excellent coach, a nice individual and as I recall has said complementary comments about Coach Brad and SLU. No doubt his LOA will affect the team.
  3. Hey Steve... is that a sign your standing next to?
  4. In the past several years I have become a fan of the Lady Lobos and they sometimes draw 14+K. I would love to see the Jillikens do well. It would be a positive for SLU. The only knowledge I have of them is what I read on this site. And it seems there are two consistent comments: 1. that the players don't seem to enjoy themselves and have fun and 2. that Coach Jill screams a lot and seems to be somewhat of a harridan. Maybe a change in leadership is indicated.
  5. Let's hope the Billikens have a solid win (and beat the point spread of 9) and that all players are healthy. This is a must win game. Someone please keep us OOT's updated during the game. Go Bills!
  6. I lived in Lewis when in grad school. What is it now?
  7. We are favored by 10 1/2 and would love to see us win by that margin or more.
  8. Good ideas w one exception. If you make students stand in line for tickets they may revert to staying in their rooms and studying anatomy as you suggested they are currently doing.
  9. I didn't know that more students attend soccer games than basketball. And... you are correct SLU isn't the same school today as it was in the early 60s. It has imporved exponentially in all ways and the on-campus arena - a creek runs through it - will be just one more major imporvement.
  10. I was there in the early 60s also and experienced the 'slow down ball' of Coach John Bennington. There was spirit at the games and we all had fun. And as I recall the girls (women) left the dorms and attended in small groups. Fraternities were supportive of the games & TKE had their bell and it was the place to be...
  11. I think you are correct about MO - KA rivalry being one of the most intense. A friend of mine and professor at UMC told me years ago that he read that the intense rivalry has its roots in the Civil War.
  12. When I was at SLU I rarely misssed a home game and usually went to 2 away games per season. There was fairly decent student support from the dorm students. However, there wasn't much else to do as there really wasn't a campus. There were no free tickets and no free bus. We took the city bus or walked. We lived with most of the players and new them, some well. We believed in school spirit and supported our team. Now if the school said there would be bus service then they should have provided it. This Jan at Humphrey's sounds like a real fan and a true supporter. I don't understand the apathy of the students. If free tickets and bus service doesn't help then I doubt an on-campus arena will. Maybe college credit for perfect attendance might. I suspect the problem is systemic. Maybe the very success of college sports (football & bb)exposure and $ are the very reasons for its failure with students.
  13. or... at the very least, get some alumns back on campus.
  14. I think it will be closer than 10 because So Miss will be looking for their first road win. I hope the Bills take charge early so it is not a 'nail biter.'
  15. I flipped between the Mizzou game and the UNM - Wyo game. Your are correct, Mizzou just didn't seem motivated. The announcer mentioned several times the they are being investigated by the NCAA. Was he hinting at a reason for the lackluster play? It has been about 10 years since I have been in the Hearnes Center. It looked pretty good on TV and I can't help but wonder why they need a new venue.
  16. Now that is an innovative concept, but do they promote it.
  17. Thanks for the information which makes it a lot easier. My local sports bars said they can get those coordinates.
  18. at TCU by 4 1/2 points. Let's hope for a convincing win. Go Bills!
  19. It is not a new trend. I remember seeing a news item on TV in 1998 re: UNM's 'The Pit' entitled 'The Money Pit.' It was about UNM's decision to allow more zdvertizing space on the balcony and over the sound system to increase revenues. The time was taken away from the students - cheerleaders, mascots and pep band. Then they wondeer why students don't attend games. The atmosphere at 'The {ot' jas rea;;y changed - its not as much fun.
  20. Schasz, Thanks for the game updates. It sounds like we didn't play too well, but well enough to get a win.
  21. That would be great to broaden the viewing base. However in the meantime how about the Athletic Dept being proactive and making availabe the satalite coordinates so we can be informed when calling our local sports bar re: SLU games. When I lived in Tampa Beef Obrady's on S. MacDill was excellent at finding the SLU games for me.
  22. Freedom Hall is definitely the Cardinals home court and has been for years (60s). And they pack it for most games.
  23. One thing Fran should know about and understand is alienation. He did a great job of it at UNM.
