slu72, i assume you are wearing your sarcasm hat today.

it isnt a matter that anyone believes either or both newborne and johnson will or wont turn into curtis withers. imo, the problem is that there apparently isnt anyone better available.

You don't want Rembert. He is not good at all. His final two choices were SIU and Bradley. Coming out of high school, Bradley's head coach gave the analogy/comparison of Bradley being a Ferrari, while SIU was a Yugo. Turns out he made the right choice...a mediocre program for a mediocre at best player.

A mediocre program that has the richest tradition of just about any program in the state of Illinois. Rembert isn't the solution to anyones problems if he couldn't work his way off the Bradley bench this past year. He showed some decent work off the bench, but thats about all you can count on him for. SIU reaches a sweet 16 and thinks theyre the top dogs around. Hehe.

our board has become a "valley talk" alternative as two valley schools play "mine is bigger" and we couldnt care less here. imo, until this rembrandt guy expresses any interest we arent too concerned about bradley or siu bench players.

Yeah youre right, we should probably pick up on the Mizzou-is-the-worst-program-in-the-history-of-man-kind chatter, because that certainly has something to do with SLU. The thing I left out is that Rembert would start for SLU. heh. I don't like to admit it, but some people certainly love drinking the blue-aid.

I realize this isn't a Billiken need, but I'm curious why a talented player like him would want to leave an elite program like OU. Was he kicked out of school? Disappointed in playing time? I didn't see anything in OU's basketball website.

I don't think it was anything real big. I don't think he had progressed as much as OU hoped he would and I think he was losing a little playing time to freshman David Godbold near the end of the season. I think OU will miss him ... but alot depends on who they have coming in. Even with him gone OU has 4 of 5 starters returning, including what has to be considered the best inside duo in college in Kevin Bookout and Taj Gray.

What's your problem? A SLU fan posted a name to throw around and I just thought I would quickly dismiss that name based on my experience watching him play.

Add Dameon Mason to the list. From the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel....

TUESDAY, April 19, 2005, 2:33 p.m.

Marquette's Mason plans to transfer

Dameon Mason, the third-leading scorer for the Marquette men's basketball team last season, told the Journal Sentinel this afternoon that he will transfer to another school at the end of the semester. Coach Tom Crean also confirmed Mason's decision.

Mason, a 6-foot-5, 190-pound sophomore guard from Kansas City, averaged 11.9 points per game and was second in rebounding at 5.6 per game. He was one of five Marquette players to play in all 31 games, starting 28 and averaging 30.4 minutes.

The Golden Eagles' most explosive athlete, Mason was named to Conference USA's all-freshman team in 2003-'04 and got off to a solid start this season but fell into a funk at mid-season after playing out of position at times when injuries decimated the team's backcourt.

Mason was benched for three games down the stretch but regained his starting spot for the team's final five games, after senior Travis Diener suffered a season-ending hand injury in practice. He never was able to find a cure for the turnover bug, however, and wound up leading the team with 89 - an average of 2.9 per game and 31 more than Diener's total as the Golden Eagles' point guard.

Mason declined to discuss where he might wind up, saying he'd do so only after the transfer process had been finalized.

I understand the Foust thing ... and I'm sure that played into it, but his role was diminishing and I think that probably hurt. OU will be loaded next year ... how could you not want to stay if you were going to be a major part.

BERKELEY, Calif. -- Dominic McGuire, a forward who started 23 games for California last season, has been given permission to transfer from the school.

McGuire, a 6-foot-8 sophomore from San Diego, was the fourth-leading scorer last season for the Bears (13-16), averaging 7.2 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. He was Cal's top reserve as a freshman, averaging 4.3 points.

Rembert would be a great addition for the Bills. Physical play underneath, good perimeter game. Coming from Peoria and watching the Braves this year, he was definately not part of the problem they had down the stretch. Obviously he's a mentally tough player and that helps with a team like ours.
