Article on A10 schedule strength

Recommended Posts

Good to know we're not the only team forced to schedule non-D1 opponents. I don't understand it on the east coast in places like Philly where you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a D1 basketball school.

Also good to know that SLU's A10 home and homes are projected to be the toughest in the conference. We'll need that to buffer the rankings.

Thanks for sharing.

For all the griping about our schedule, this suggests otherwise.

It softens the blow a bit.  But are we trying to be just a lil bit better than GW, ?  Most A10 schools are a bad measuring stick for success.

The schedule sucks. It's CJS, year 1 so he gets a pass. If it continues then it's a weakness. ISU didn't get an at large last year due to weak schedule, that's a data point. Is it a trend? Or an outlier?

Dug a little into these projections.

SLU is the only A10 team with 2 non D1 games.  All others have one, except St. Joe's who has none.  Substitute a D1 game into our schedule for one of the non D1's and you get a different picture.  A team 100 or better might put this schedule in a better picture.  Put a 250+ team in and we aren't third best anymore.  Big issue playing two non D1's in this data summary.

SLU is predicted to be 7-4 in OOC games that matter, 9-4 in all games.  Losses are Santa Clara, Wichita State, San Francisco and Grand Canyon, basically all the interesting games.  9-4 isn't an At Large result.

He has SLU finishing 6th in the A10 at 17-14 and 9-9, with the best wins being Loyola at home and St. Joseph's at home.  Double losses to VCU and Dayton.  This result won't make the NIT.

Top Ten Contributors; Jimerson 15.9 ppg, 3.9 rpg,    Swope 15.4 ppg, 2.4 rpg,    Avila 15.4 ppg, 6.7 rpg,    Johnson 11.0 ppg, 3.1 rpg,    Anya 6.4 ppg, 5.7 rpg,    Hughes 4.3 ppg, 3.5 rpg,    Thames 3.1 ppg, 2.3 rpg,    Casey 2.3 ppg, 2.3 rpg,    Dotlzer 2.0 ppg and 1.4 rpg,    and Williford (yes Williford) 0.7 ppg, 1.6 rpg.

do you think that slu will have a problem scheduling Missouri valley teams since they hijacked there best coach the rest of the league and the commissioner may have little interest in helping that coach in any way (carbondale)

During his initial interview Schertz did say that yes he wanted to continue to schedule Valley teams and that he would use his contacts/relationships to do so. He also said it was too early to schedule Indiana State. With his response I was surprised to see only the already scheduled game with Illinois State on the schedule.
