Polk is a Problem

How was his defense? Was he a facilitator in the offense by making the pass before an assist pass? Just because his numbers don't end up in the box score doesn't mean he didn't add more positives than negatives. There are 4 guys who should be getting most of the shots. Whose numbers would you like Polk to take away from? Majerus has stated before that he wants his best offensive players taking the shots. I think Polk taking 1 shot is probably a positive for this team, he is after all a career 35% shooter.

Agree about Polk. He needs to come off the bench as a defensive specialist ... not start going 25+ minutes. Rickma did make some positive comments about Danny Brown ("he's got Luke Meyer toughness"). Maybe Danny can take minutes from Polk. Relphorde is a possibility as well. Not as a guard but as a 4 bumping Meyer back for more minutes at 3. But unless Lisch finds his shooting touch, I don't really think it matters. Our season is toast.

I can''t really say, as I listened on the radio and didn't watch. However, the stats don't usually lie. I'm not sure, did he have any steals?

SLU only scored 19 in the first half and 56 for the game. It could be a long year if you have a guy like Polk getting so many minutes. When you're having trouble scoring, it's tough to give that many minutes to a guy who's not supposed to shoot.

Polk is a problem. His defense and ballhandling are okay but he is an offensive liability and always has been.

We have no other options though. For Majerus Polk is the closest thing to a real pg we have. He will continue to log heavy minutes and that will make this a very long season.

Some others have touched on this, but I feel like it's worth its own thread. Polk played 27 minutes, took 1 shot, scored no points, had no rebounds, and had no assists. He did have 4 fouls. As thin as SLU is this year, I don't see how he can keep getting minutes like that.

Agree completely. I've often wondered if we would have been better off with a Moosman or Spencer Stewart. We know we would have been better off with Jeff Peterson.

lisch and liddell are currently taking 25% less shots per game than last year.

lisch is shooting a career high 52% from the field currently and his 3 point shooting is at 42% which isnt bad by any means.

I remember polk being recruited as replacement for perry. I think if he is playing rick thinks he is the best we have.

what are the other options?

imo, the starting lineup and the lions share of the minutes together should be lisch, liddell, meyer, husak, and eberhardt. apparently majerus doenst think eberhardt and husak should play together though.

if my choice is husak and eberhardt cant play together, i would play either mitchell, knollmeyer or relphorde increase our size.

polk wouldnt even be my 6th man. his non stat production is a luxury this team cannot afford imo.

Coming out os HS, people were incensed that Polk didn't win Mr. Missouri. I'd seen him play many times and he was very impressive for Vashon. Quick as a blur. I was even at the voting for Mr. Missouri at the MO Sports Hall of Fame and it went back and forth quite a bit between the two players.

I honestly expected more out of Polk. Justin Fury, the guy who went against him almost exclusively Wed. is a guy most on our team felt should be playing very few minutes, but has really improved this year. I was worried and thought Polk would eat his lunch, but Polk didn't do much against himme.

The question about his defense was askedL He did have one steal where he absolutely just took the ball away from Spencer Laurie, and he played solid pressure defense as our PG would bring the ball up, but he allowed us to get entry passes due to his limited size, and he wasn't as quick as I remember.

Has he had any injuries to speak of?

I don't think the problem is that Majerus doesn't think they should play together, the problem is AK. Until he earns some minutes as the backup center Barry has to be in when Bryce is out which limits the time they can be on the floor together. We need AK to step up and earn 10 - 15 mpg as a back up center allowing Barry to play almost exclusively at the 4.

skip, i just am finding it hard to believe that polk's nothing stats are worth more than what knollmeyer or mitchell or added relphorde minutes can add.

so far Adam hasn't shown the ability to do anything besides play poor D and foul. The problem with playing BE and BH together is one has to be playing center, that has nothing to do with Polk. Imo Tommie's minutes early were going to PE, which is where DP's minutes should be going. When only one of the 2, BE or BH is in the game at center you almost have to have LM in at the 4 ... or I wouldn't mind seeing BE with LM, MR, TL, and KL.

I agree DP doesn't bring much to the table.

MR isn't quick enough to play the 3 and hasn't shown the rebounding or inside play to merit the 4. The problem is nobody off the bench has stepped up consistently. If someone does they get major minutes. Until then its status quo. On the flip side, the season is very young and it's hard to evaluate the new guys in this short span. There's plenty of time for one of them to step up and show they belong in the mix.
