GOPBilliken
Ok, due to a laundry list of complaints, the site is down. However, the fight to can Soderberg has only begun. I think that a lot of SLU people don't know how to handle criticism, and they probably think people who affiliate themselves with a Catholic university wouldn't "stoop that low." Well, you need to wake up. The signs will be out en masse on Wednesday and if we lose and are faced with going 0-4 after XU wipes the floor, Brad is gone. Clean house. Box and Won
Maybe you can use your pull to convince Dave Senay to make a nice contribution to the athletic department. He's a SLU grad, ya know.
billiken_roy
gopbilliken said, "Brad is gone." you have that straight from Cheryl or from Father Biondi?
GOPBilliken
No Roy, I'm just imagining myself being by a television come Tuesday the 16th, watching the press conference.
billiken_roy
so he is gone in your mind only. you should have clarified that. i was concerned for a moment.
TKbilliken
Its amazing GOP that an athletic department in D-1 sports is so concerned with a blog and a message board. You would think they have better stuff to do with their time then look at fan message boards and fire brad soderberg blogs. I guess that explains why we are where we are at this point in the season. Instead of Brad and his assistants making progress with recruits or game planning they are spending time on billikens.com and firebradsoderberg.com Instead of Levick and her crew raising money to help the athletic department they are to concerned with fan message boards and blogs. StLouBlue
I am just wondering if you have a list of people that you would like to see considered as the next coach at SLU. The easy part is firing your coach, the hard part is identifying a replacement that can do better than he is doing now. I have stated many times that I support Brad, but I also expect him to continue to improve as a coach. I have complained about playing with a short bench and not mixing it up more on defense as well as leaving open scholarships. I am also sure that if Brad is fired and coach x is brought in there will be things that I disagree with what he is doing as well.
TKbilliken
Exactly Drew. Freedom of speech. Some people on this board do not think it is right to express that. Whether its a sign or a website. Some people are big supporters of billiken basketball and think that the best chance for this team to succeed is to let go of the current coach. I know people do not like to hear it, but at the same time for the long run success of the program its time to cut some of the fat. Brad has had his chance and we have nothing to show for it..NOTHING. Rumor has it that the website and the message board were the talk of the athletic department yesterday. I think they have some better things to do with their time then read these type of websites. For example looking for a new head coach of the mens basketball team!!! Someone in the AD needs to get in contact with Rick Majerus, instead of looking at billikens.com and firebradsoderberg.com!!
slu72
"Do better than he's doing now".....???? Please define better than now after two straight losses to the dregs of the conference. One who lost to St.Joes, whose supposedly in a down year, by 48 pts! Then comes to our house and whips up on us by 10 with their leading scorer on the bench. Man, if there's no one out there who can do a better job than that, we should drop out of D1 hoops to the NAIA.
SLUDrew
then my faith in the powers that be just went down the toilet. How and why should they be worried about what some fans are doing on the internet? Don't they have MUCH bigger issues on their plates? And even if they have nothing better to do who are they to censor what we as fans do?
NashvilleBilliken
Don't be an idiot. You know how I feel about the site and signs. It's pretty weak. But Majerus?! The guy can barely walk, let alone recruit the college basketball scene. Do you not remember that he did go back to college coaching and lasted all of 2 days?! If you want to speculate about other coaches, fine. But for christ sake, be intelligent about it.
NashvilleBilliken
I assume these are coming from the same rumor mill that all your great tidbits this summer came from? Since you're such a "big fan" and in the know, I'm just curious where you were when we were winning? Funny how you never posted until we lost two losses. It appears you have quite the agenda. moytoy12
I'm reading between the lines and coming to the conclusion that the athletic department somehow pressured you guys into shutting down the site. How can the athletic department shut down an independent website? Did the AD bully you guys? Threaten to take away tickets? Do you guys work for the university? If none of the above, i would be interested to know the pressure that the university applied. If what you say is true about the AD, it doesn't seem like there's a lot of umph behind the blog if you guys back down so easily. Guess the proprietors of firebradsoderberg.com are all talk. But really, that's no surprise.
Battlecat455
"Exactly Drew. Freedom of speech. Some people on this board >do not think it is right to express that. Whether its a >sign or a website." Do you make no distinction between the right of expression and the appropriateness of expression? IMO, the actions of the "Fire Brad" campaign are intolerate, mean spirited and counter indicated to the overall future success of the program, whether Brad is retained or not. You are, of course, free to act in any immature, intemperate and vindictive fashion you desire.
StLouBlue
Schools like SLU are usually one bad hire away from ending up much worse off than where we are. The idea of bringing in an assistant coach or a small college coach with few recruiting ties could put is in a much worse hole. We have had 2 very bad games, but overall we are still 10-5 with some nice wins over Miss St & Mo St. I am certainly not happy with where we are though, but I guess I would much rather see how the team & coaches respond to these last 2 games than throw the whole season away. billiken_roy
what in the world would make anyone think that majerus would come to slu. he has turned down a lot better for probably a lot more $$$ than slu.

STLfan
I'm not sure yet wether or not I think Brad should be retained or let go. I'm waiting to see how the rest of this season goes. But because coaching searches always intrest me I looked for who I thought might be possible canidadtes should Brad not get the job done. slufanskip
You have the right to free speech and I'm sure they have the right to tell you Thank You, but no Thank You ... that sign doesn't come in. Why is it ok for you to exercise your rights, but it would be wrong for the Athletic Dept to do the same.
